OR, could it just be a way to control the "unwashed masses" of superstitious, uneducated peasants once upon a time...that for whatever reason, has carried forward into modern times?

What better way to get people to do your bidding?

You can go ahead and explain using any method you wish how the bible is the word of god when some dude transcribed the whole thing

how do you know he didn't eat some mushrooms and started talking to his dog?

Religion has been and still is used by man to control other men. Its the exact thing that the New Testament tells us is wrong. Are you saying that anyone who believes the Bible is superstitious or uneducated?

The honest answer is that I don't. I don't claim to be a prophet. I'm someone who simply chose to research the subject and discovered the truth.

And it does matter. There are tons of non-religious, third party accounts of the people and things stated in the NT. The OT I am no expert on.

If fear is the only domain of government, then for what reason was Hell invented by Christians?

The practice of Indulgences?

The various Inquisitions?

Witch Trials? etc, etc...

By giving humanity a book of 'sacred' Gospels to abide by or burn in eternal hell, that is so full of fucking errors and inconsistencies and contradictions (even laughable absurdities) subject to so many equally reasonable differences of interpretation and opinion about which is supposed to be literal and which is metaphorical or allegory that it would necessarily lead a substantial percentage of the population to be condemned to hell who have no other choice but to conclude in good conscience after a careful objective examination that:

A. God ought to be able to produce a Gospel that a large consensus of rational objective persons (from all cultures, not just those indoctrinated from birth to accept it) could reasonably sign onto and get behind

B. The heavily flawed Gospels as we know them are exactly what you might expect from human beings without 'divine influence'

1) Humans didn't evolve from monkeys, humans evolved from _<insert whatever moves you>_ people.
2) Global warming. Galilee was much colder then.
3) You don't have to be real to die. Just check Justin Beiber's popularity next year to see the truth.

The bible was the first book printed on a printing press, there were TONS of books written before the bible.

Why would a "god" need to have its name capitalized? Needy jealous god of primitive desert people? Sounds like an inferioty complex, needs worship too as the one and only god! Too bad there is not a day in the yearly cycle with exactly twenty-four hours to use up those sixty minute hours made up of sixty second minutes.
