A new Zogby poll puts Herman Cain​ at the top of the Republican field, as the top choice of 28% of poll respondents. (IBOPE Zogby International says the polling sample consists of “all likely voters and of likely Republican primary voters.”)

Rounding out the top three are Rick Perry at 18%, and Mitt Romney at 17%. Fourth place goes to Ron Paul at 11%. Paul’s the most solid performer in Zogby’s polling history for the 2012 GOP race – his 11% might as well be chiseled in stone.

Interestingly, this poll was conducted after the Orlando GOP debate, but before Cain won the Florida straw poll. It’s a huge surge for Cain, who was polling at 12% just two weeks previously, and was floating at a campaign low of 8% two weeks before that. Aside from that bitter 8% number, Cain has generally done quite well in the Zogby poll, usually good enough for second or third place.

I have mixed feelings, being essentially a fiscally conservative, strong defense, strong borders, socially libertarian guy most fond of (least unfond of?) Romney. On the one hand, Cain impresses me; I like his widespread business experience. On the other hand, I dislike the things he's said about closing the EPA and categorically not hiring Muslims. On the other hand, a black against black general election would be awesome, really say good things about this country and our progress. On the other hand, I have some hesitation after Obama about hiring another person without strong experience in business and in government, especially executive experience.

One thing is clear - if you're a leftie, Herman Cain is your new guy to hate the most. Start working out how to call a black man a racist, you're gonna it.

Oh, and Michelle Bachmann is done. Someone please stick a fork in her. And best prepare another one for Perry while there's still time.
 
That poll is suspect IMO. The Zogby polls have been outliers in the past year compared to the rest. A recent CNN poll puts Cain around the 5% level if I recall.
 
No appointment of Muslims to federal office, allowing states and localities to ban houses of worship for unpopular religions, eliminating the EPA, shifting the federal tax burden even further onto the lower and middle classes... little wonder that Mr. Cain appeals so strongly to the Tea Party base.

You might consider that while Mr. Cain may not qualify for the "Racist" label, his Islamophobic zealotry could conceivably earn him "Bigot First Class".

He will never get on the ticket, the Tea Party hates black people. The pole is BS.
 
I find this surprising, just as I found Cain's victory in the FL straw poll surprising.

I'm reluctant to put much import to it. Furthermore, I prefer polls regarding the Repub nominee be based on just likely Repub voters, not all likely voters. Why have likely Dem voters included? Makes no sense to me, it will just distort the preference of Repub voters.

Some TEA Party leaders are black.

The only color the TEA Party seems interested in is green (as in $'s).

LOL. It is always easy to find a token standout, they give the party cover.

Look at the statistics. The largest indicator of someone being in the Tea Party is being white, being republican and being Christian. They sprang up over night when a black man won the office. Where were they for all the years of out of control Bush spending? They use Gov. spending as a guise for their anger, but the truth slips out time to time.

Also Zogby is notoriously an outlier among all polling firms left, right or center.
 
Zogby interactive polling is based on a self-selecting, more motivated group of voters who must register on the Zogby website rather than traditional passive phone/IVR. You can register to be in the pool of people potentially polled.

The polling is done via the web. Basically it is not reliable. It may potentially show some trend but I have to see if any other polling shows anything close to this before I believe a Zogby internet poll.
 
Meh, you don't need to discriminate against him for being a bigot. There's plenty of reasons to want to keep him out of the White House. Herman Cain would be a great Republican Nominee.....for the Democratic Party.

It's not hard when the guy has made pretty consistent public displays of being racist against Muslims. But as long as you don't call a black man the "n" word it ain't racist, right?

Almost as ignorant as Cain. They've actually been around since Bush, got started from the grassroots movement that heavily supported Ron Paul during the last '08 election, and then were co-oped by the GOP afterwards. Race is an issue for the TEA party because it was manufactured by the left the actions of a few individuals ignorant remarks to attack them.

In spite of all of that I still think he is a notch above Perry and Bachmann. That is not saying much though.
 
he has business and management experience your obama could only "hope" to have but never will. What ever room the obama walks into he's the least experienced man in the room.
 
I don't give any credence to this poll but I love the idea that the GOP field is sufficiently muddled and unappealing that Cain, who appears to be a slow adult, could conceivably poll out at the top.
