any credible retail store has a computer controlled register system where they can look up all transactions. If your gf's transaction isn't in the register, she stole. No ifs, ands or buts about it. There's no justifying stealing regardless of your seniority or rank.

Well, if they are that anal over $4, I'd assume they had some sort of surveillance system on the cash registers? She could ask to watch the tapes and then they'll know either she was really busy and simply forgot, she actually paid and just forgot, etc.

I'd assume they have cameras since you said it was a retail store and they seem to be real uptight.

Good luck.

its not even clear if she ate there or not. They are saying she did but that doesn't mean anything cause they have no physical proof for it.

I thought they have to prove she stole it with a tangible evidnece or credible witnesses.

Anonymous tip could have been fabricated by the loss prevention disguised as "anonymous".

Sucks, but she needs to move on, all you'll do is waste time & money. Was she working for Wal Mart?

BTW, sorry it happened, stuff like this is unfair, but you aren't issued a "Life is fair" coupon @ birth:(

It is unusual that they'd do this to a degreed/regulated professional. I'd be willing to bet money that there are other issues going on that your GF is taking the fall over, like customer complaints, missing drugs (viagra is so hot we can't stock it in our in house pharmacy, it's kept @ our mail order pharmacy because of internal losses. Rather than track down the thief, management @ my hospital chose to do away with the temptation.)
