My first biology miderm of the past term was at 8:20am. My cell phone alarm did not go off for NO REASON! I was rolling around and somehow I got the idea of tests in my mind...........so I'm in the middle of a daze thinking "test, test...." and I remebered I had one. As soon as I looked up I saw that it was very bright in the room (usually dark around that time), so I said sh!t and started flipping out because I figured it was like 10 and I missed the test. Then I look at my cell to see why I'm getting a 0 on the first midterm and I see it's 8:40. So I throw on my clothes from last night, grab a pencil and sprint across campus for like 20 minutes. I made it there around 9 and rushed through the test. Got a C+ though, which is way better than an F. I must of smelled like crap, since I was sweating from the run and didn't even brush my teeth. I can't complain though, my final grade was a B+ (would have been an A if it wasn't for that).

Anyway, this stuff happens.

Sort of related: when I first started my job this summer I'd been waking up at midnight all the previous week. The first day I got to work nice and early because I'd had about 6 hours to get ready before I left, but I decided to stay up a little so I could wake up at a more reasonable hour, like 4am. :p Anyway, I got to bed at about 7pm, curled up, dozed off. Next thing I know I'm looking at the ceiling, it's not dark, not light outside so I figure early morning, plenty of time to get ready and shake the fog out of my brain. Then I check my watch and just about have a heart attack; it says 8:20, and the absolute latest I can come in to work is 8:00am! So I flip out, run to the closet, grab the nearest shirt and run into the bathroom. I've already got the water running and am mostly undressed when I take another glance at my watch as I take it off, just to make sure I'm not hallucinating. Sure enough, it says 8:24... but then I notice the ever-so-small "P" just above the 8. Yup, it was 8:24pm, not am, which explained why I felt so damn tired. Needless to say I stopped the shower, pet my cat a few times to calm down and then went back to bed. On the plus side I had my clothes all picked out for the next day.

You have two options:
-Call the prof right now and ask if he/she prefers jelly or syrup
OR
-seppuku

Pick one.

Always reminds me of that that old professor joke about the students who claimed they had a flat tire and missed the exam. The teacher said OK and gave them the test. There was only one question (that mattered). Which tire?

What is the correct answer?

Well there are multiple students in the joke, so if they all put the same answer he knows they're telling the truth (or they planned their lie well), if they put different answers they obviously made it up. Get it?

I did this to plenty of people in college. They'd ask me to wake them up, I'd give a non-commital answer, and then sleep-in.

Haha.
For about 2 weeks, I used to try and wake my roommate up for class. I figure I'd help a brotha out if I knew he had to be somewhere, and I'd appreciate him doing the same for me.

But after that I realized he was just a slacker, and I wasn't going to play his mother for the whole year.

He flunked out, btw, b/c he never went to class. Ever.

I had a roommate like that in college. He thought I was being condescending because I always tried to get him to go to class, so one night he just attacked me. Then he disappeared for a few days (he was living in the woods). He dropped out 5 years into his 6-year B.A. in communications.

 for the attack, but  for the living in woods part.

I ended up failing that class.

Have your best friend break BOTH of your knee caps with a ball peen hammer ASAP.

Then go to a veteranian, dentist, dietitian, herbalist or chiropractor for a doctor's note--whichever is closer.

Seriousl.........get a doctor's note. I've had this happen to me. You'll have to take a make-up test sometime later or have the final count more. Usually the test will be MARKEDLY harder.

............OR when the grades come in, wonder WHERE your final was as you took the exam. This excuse works in a big lecture hall type of class where the test was taken. The prof will make you take the test again. You better be a good actor or the Prof will smell BS.

...........if the teacher messes with you either way, GO TO THE DEAN. Arbitrate it with the Dean and threaten to sue. Deans are specifically there to douse wildfires and pass their students.....

I had an alarm clock that malfunctioned occasionally. I missed one exam and maybe 3-4 classes b/c of it. I was too stupid to go out and buy another one because it worked 'some of the time'. :clock:

Call, anyway, hopefully they will be in a good mood.

I have not found this to be the case. My friend slept through his psycology FINAL fall term and the professor let him make it up after break. My room mate missed 2 tests in a row without knowing it he emailed the professor who said he could take them whenever he wanted (a little too lenient I think but if it works heh) I myself am taking some online classes summer term and completely mixed up due dates I missed a test, turned in a project and two quizzes late and emailed the professors who were very willing to allow me to make everything right so long as I don't make a habit from it. (I think that it helped that I have a perfect average in 2 of the 3 and an A in the third) Honestly you can either make up an excuse or tell the truth, just don't be ridiculous and say my grandmother died, they won't believe it will be offended that you used it and prolly won't let you make it up.

I missed an exam because my roomate TURNED OFF my alarm clock once. Did not get to make it up, zero!

ooh, I did that to my roommate too ;) he was a total douche, though. He had 8 am classes every day. Every morning, his alarm would go off at 7 am and wake me up.

I don't mind that. You do what you gotta do, and I could just roll over and go back to sleep. But at minimum, it took him 45 minutes to wake up, and more often then not, he slept through his first class (meaning that his alarm would be going off non-stop for at least 45 minutes, if not a full hour and a half). He wouldn't even wake up enough to slam on the snooze button.

I talked to him about it the first few times, but after two weeks of this, if his alarm was still going at 7:15, I got out of bed, turned it off, and went back to sleep. My earliest class that semester was at 2 pm, and I had no problem waking up :p

I was the same way, my room mate was a weird guy, he would say things like "its midnight now I know if I go to sleep tonight I won't be able to wake up at 9am, there's just no way" so he'd go out and wander around the streets till like 6 am when he realized he needed some sleep then he would come back and go to sleep sleep through an hour of his alarm (I eventually started sleeping with ear plugs and a mask because he would play video games at night which would keep me up) for a while he would literally sleep during the day and wake up just after his last class ended. He didn't make it to class for (100% serious) 6 weeks spring semester, and he wasn't always sleeping, normal people sometimes feel lazy and sit in bed for up to an hour or so after they wake up, he'd wake up at like 2 in the afternoon and sit in bed untill 10pm, it was just ridiculous heh.

I had a project due last semester, everyone was telling me it took them 8 hours to do, but it was for computer class so I was like no way in hell a computer project is gonna take me 8 hours to do, I start reading the directions at 3pm (due at 5) and its all this crap like do these three steps then undo the first step, it was specifically designed to take forever, so I realized no way am I gonna get this done on time, so I pick up my friend's cat and rub my hands on my face (I'me pretty allergic to cats) then went to the infirmary got a slip and signed in (their policy is no doctors notes unless in their care 3+ days) I filled out the slip with the appropriate time and got the doctors card, I had to take a strep test though (the doctor said he didn't think I was sick it was probably just allergies, unless I wanted to take a $20 strept test) so I was like yeah do the damn test, I finish my project that night turn it in the next day staple the doctors card, the receipt for the strep test and the sheet I filled out for my appointment time to the project turned it in got -60% for being late +60% for "MD appointment"

Get 2 alarm clocks with different sounding beeps, put batteries in both of them, and put them in different places in your room.

I don't wanna scare ya, but I missed a midterm once cuz I thought it was a different day and I skipped class to study for another midterm. I ended up getting a 0 for 30% of my grade, failed the class, was forced to switch majors, became disillusioned with college and life in general, graduated with a 2.5 average in one of the worst job markets in a long time, settled for a dead-end job at a startup cuz no one would hire me etc. etc. etc.

So my life pretty much sucks after I missed that exam!

(I don't blame it on the exam, but on myself getting so fed up and frustrated and not seeking help after confrontation with the prof.)
:Q
Wow, I thought I had posted about that awhile ago...didn't expect someone else to find it and quote it first! Heh, I actually responded to this thread above without giving him the scary version of the story...

But yeah, the lesson here is FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT for a better a grade. In my case, I should have withdrawn for the semester, but its a little late for you to be doing that!

My kickass missed test story:

I missed my very last final for my very last class in college. The test date was switched and I wasn't in the class where they announced it.
When the prof and TA were grading tests, they noticed mine was missing, and wondered what happened to me. I'd been in classes with the TA and we were acquaintences/friends, and I'd been in three of the prof's classes, a solid A on every test. They had to turn the grades in that day and I didn't yet know I'd missed the test (I thought it was that evening.)

They gave me an A. On a test I hadn't showed up for.

When I contacted the TA later (panicked, couldn't reach the prof) he told me what they did. I talked to the prof and he said I could take the test if I wanted. I did want, and so took it and proved that I earned my A.

:D Always get to know the profs. It REALLY pays off.

Tough shizzle. My brother had food poisoning, went to the hospital, then they didnt read his charts and gave him something that made him had a really freaky allergic reaction (was like somebody with bipolar disease but 60,000x faster, he was up, he was down, up, down, up down, jello & pudding why do'nt they miss the twooooo?. Yea so anyhow...prof was like tough shizzle, come take the test. And my dad was with him. Like if your dad has to help you go to the class, to like, ask the prof for a 8 hour extension....thats like f'd up...especially when the prof doesnt give it to ya.
