yeah grow to be 4-5' long? are they still "friendly" at that size? gotta get a tank then no?
They are even more friendly as they age. Most animals are like this. My tarantulas are all very nervous and skittish as spiderlings, but become more and more relaxed as they age. Now they will curl up and sleep on my shoulder or in the palm of my hand and don't even respond to slight shaking or walking whereas they used to freak out. Snakes are very docile and will only strike if they feel threatened or if they think you are giving them food. I feed mine outside of his tank so he doesn't get confused and think my hand is a mouse if I accidentally startle him. The only thing that goes in and out of his tank, other than his water bowl, is my hand, so he knows exactly what it is.
As they get bigger, they move less and will basically let you hold them however long you want. Corn snakes are slightly more energetic and will be more restless than a python or boa, which will sit there like a bump on a log.
i loved my ball pythons.
it would sit around my shoulders and be happy (long as it was warm enough).
it was great when kids would come to the door for haloween!
had to give t hem away. at the time we were in a 2 bedroom place. Then my wife went and got pregnant. sigh
thinking of hitting up the reptile swap in Northern IL. can get ball python for like $15-30 and bulk frozen mice/rats.
Frozen mice are the way to go. Feeding a live, baby mouse to my snake is kinda sad actually and I don't like to do it. Feeding it a dead one is no problem though.
we were eventually banned from sears pet store once they figured out why we were buying their mice. ludicrous, actually, considering that they also sold snakes. what do they feed their snakes?
live is the way to go. it's only natural. nice solution for all your indoor rodent problems as well.
I felt bad about it, but some kid was in the pet store giving away his baby hamsters one time. dad said, "I'll take those!"
I also had tons of hamsters--but none of them ever became snake food.
