Oh, and Lord Fluffernumpkins is hilarious

Come on, you know you want to. Plus, it's the only name that was seconded ;)

Thirded. ;)

BTW-The OP has very smooth palms. Do you moisturize?

LOL! Actually, they are quite coarse. It doesn't look like it but they are. The only lotion that gets put on them is aftershave.

They are even more friendly as they age. Most animals are like this. My tarantulas are all very nervous and skittish as spiderlings, but become more and more relaxed as they age. Now they will curl up and sleep on my shoulder or in the palm of my hand and don't even respond to slight shaking or walking whereas they used to freak out. Snakes are very docile and will only strike if they feel threatened or if they think you are giving them food. I feed mine outside of his tank so he doesn't get confused and think my hand is a mouse if I accidentally startle him. The only thing that goes in and out of his tank, other than his water bowl, is my hand, so he knows exactly what it is.

As they get bigger, they move less and will basically let you hold them however long you want. Corn snakes are slightly more energetic and will be more restless than a python or boa, which will sit there like a bump on a log.

I second Lord Fluffernumpkins.

Thirded! Great name. :D

Congrats on the new snake! They are (arguably) the best pets.

1. Don't need to be walked
2. Once they reach adulthood (about 1 year) you feed them once every 2-3 weeks
3. Bowl of water will last at least a week...and they get most of their water from food anyway
4. DON'T MAKE ANY DAMN NOISE AT ALL!
5. No allergy problems!
6. Coolness factor; everyone's got a dog or a cat
7. Bigger constrictors can eat your neighbors' annoying cat

The names you guys came up with are hilarious. I'll have to show my wife this thread and see if we can agree on one. I really like Slinky.

Very true. They are extremely easy to take care of and they are very cool as well. I love watching his tongue flick a million miles per hour.

I didn't realize they reach adulthood that quickly. My tarantulas take much longer to grow, some species up to 5 years.

i loved my ball pythons.

it would sit around my shoulders and be happy (long as it was warm enough).

it was great when kids would come to the door for haloween!

had to give t hem away. at the time we were in a 2 bedroom place. Then my wife went and got pregnant. sigh

thinking of hitting up the reptile swap in Northern IL. can get ball python for like $15-30 and bulk frozen mice/rats.

Frozen mice are the way to go. Feeding a live, baby mouse to my snake is kinda sad actually and I don't like to do it. Feeding it a dead one is no problem though.
