get one@ they are cheap, easy to take care of, adn just cool to have.

best snakes i had were yellow belley sliders (just plain gardner snakes). but they had to have gold fish to eat.

so i had a globe in the tank. i would throw in a few fish every few days and they would go swimming. they were also ones that would always be out looking around.

"Garter" snakes, not "gardner" snakes. ;)

My cat caught one of them many years ago and broke its back. So we kept it. It lived for a few years afterward. It was fed a diet of fresh-caught toads. I dug a deep hole in the back yard and covered it with wooden planks. Toads saw the dark area and thought it was a safe place, only to fall in and be stuck until I'd stop by.
In the wintertime, he was fed small fish.

1) "Bad news guys: my 12 foot boa constrictor got loose last night. He will look for warm places, so he might crawl into your bed at night."

2) Enjoy your 2BR apartment, all to yourself. :D

I had no idea people were still responding to this. Great names everyone! I talked about it last night with my wife and we decided on Fluffy Fluffernumpkins, but Fluffy for short.

To answer the question of why do I want to name it, because it is my pet and it makes it more personal if it has a name. Plus, I want to, so get over it.

hmm how about cornie? i like fluffy. i think thats a great name for a snake.

I have a ball python:)

My sister's mother-in-law has TONS of reptiles, she does educational shows at schools. My favorite that they have is their alligator! They are probably the sweetest animal alive. Among my other favs are their boa constrictor, and bermese python, i think its 12-14 feet long. A beast to hold for awhile.

I love my reptiles, but I also have a soft spot for arachnids. My spiders can shake their booties if you get them going.

damn, sorry I missed this thread. (damn boss)

my family had a corn snake for some 26 years. Colors just like your's, which means he's a hybrid of some sort. (I'm not familiar with Okeetee)
He was the longest-living cornsnake that my pops was aware of (he's a herpetologist, so he knows his reptiles)

We named him Alpine

an aquarium with two half logs, newspaper, and bi-monthly feedings was his life. oh, be sure not to overfeed like most casual snake-owners do. It's a reptile--doesn;t have the same metablolism, etc. It'll live much longer that way.

Alpine was around 5'2" when he died.

I second Lord Fluffernumpkins.

Thirded! Great name. :D

Congrats on the new snake! They are (arguably) the best pets.

1. Don't need to be walked
2. Once they reach adulthood (about 1 year) you feed them once every 6-8 weeks
3. Bowl of water will last at least a week...and they get most of their water from food anyway
4. DON'T MAKE ANY DAMN NOISE AT ALL!
5. No allergy problems!
6. Coolness factor; everyone's got a dog or a cat
7. Bigger constrictors can eat your neighbors' annoying cat

fixed. it'll live much longer. trust me ;)
