Help me convince my mom to smoke weed

Firstly, I'm married, have kids and have my own family/life, but I'm still a momma's boy and care very much that my mom has been suffering obviously with fibromyalgia, both forms of arthritis, and ironically had a near-death bout in the hospital due to liver damage caused by the opiods and other painkillers she's been put on. Today she found out that the steroids she's on are actually making things worse, so she's going through the whole "let's try random medicines with horrible side-effects until she either feels better or ends up much worse" game. It's a constant cycle, and I"m tired of it.

I spoke to her primary care physician and she actually said that she's not against medical marijuana and would give it a try in a heartbeat if it were legalized in nyc (and that it would be safe to try for her), but my mom has a litany of old world India and religious conservative b.s. clouding her from even giving a brownie a try. I don't think pot will cure her, but it's proven that pot can reduce inflamation and drastically reduce the need of opiod pain killers. Reason enough for me to be persistent about this.

Throw me your best forum reasoning, links, stats - whatever you can think can help me win this argument. Also, anyone know the best delivery method to reduce pain and possibly the stigma (for example, I think a brownie would be easier on her than smoking - but is there any negative to digestion other than brownies being stupid expensive in nyc)

It has to be up to her. She's a big girl, and needs to make her own decisions, for better or worse.

I'm against drugs

so no

This, this is why people make fun of you.

OP I don't have any science to throw at you, but look into vaporizers as a delivery method. It works by vaporizing (duh) the weed instead of burning it, and since the stuff with pharmacological effects has a higher vaporisation temperature than, say, the actual plant matter, it results in inhaling fewer byproducts. That makes your lungs happier, and it means any weed you use will go a lot further than if you were smoking it in a joint.

If Prescription Drugs with nasty side effects are fair game, why not Pot where the worst side effect is wanting Doritos?

I understand the legal issues though, chances of getting caught are pretty low though. Just don't flaunt it or go on a Crime spree. Give it a try for a week or so, if it helps decide whether to continue it from there. If it doesn't help, then at least you know.

You might want to enlist the aid of an older person already using medical marijuana. There are many sites with forums that may be able to help you out there. Alternatively, I think this is a case where sneaking some in to a favorite drink or snack would not trouble me.

Disagree. It is just bad form to ever do such a thing to someone who would object to it.

In general yes, however, as relief from serious medical issues particularly in the case of family, it wouldn't bother me. Everyone needs to define their own standard. That's why laws, policies and, customs don't fit every situation nor, should they.

I think my gateway will either be food (not sneaking it in, that's creepy and she could have a paranoid reaction) or my magic flight vaporizer. But that REALLY looks like a drug taking tool, salacious and underground. Know what I mean? BUt you're absolutely right, it's a safer and just better use of a plant.

but i love bong hits, i don't see my 67 year old sari wearing mom would appreciate it as much 🙂

I might try it myself if it becomes medically legal in Maryland at some point, but I don't think it's right to push a relative into it while it's illegal even if the risk is low.

isn't the worst side effect called prison?
