I have a relative who wants to get ANOTHER Bose system.

He has one in his home, but he wants to get another one for his other house.

HELP!

He says taht big speakers are ugly and so are big receivers.

If I can show him the light, and show him speakers in the same small form factor, he will consider them!

HELP HELP HELP!!!

**added**
ok here is the truth on why i want to save him.

we own a condo on the beach together. it is a vacation home for me and my woman, and him and his wife.

he wants to get all this cool stuff for the condo -- he's already getting a 42" plasma for the condo. if i had it my way, i would get somthing else. but i can't complain about that! :) the reason why he wants the plasma is because it looks cool and can hang on the wall. that way we can have more living space. I would get a lcos tv, but that's me.

But he wants Bose because, to him, they look cool and are small and obtrusive. if it was my $$, i would get some super huge quality HT speakers. :)

i told him there were a lot of alternatives taht i can show him. I just need the power of ATOT to help me out.

Let him get what he wants, odds are he'll love them.

BOSE SUCKS! TELL HIM ... Bose isnt featured in most audiophile mags ...

i know .. i worked with Bose ... only good/ bearable where sound manipulation is required like in a car ... did my dissertation on acoustic remodelling ... too much playing with actual sound IMHO ...

Of course Bose sucks and and their systems are overpriced, but it's hard to find quality speakers in that form factor.

If he already has a setup and likes it, just let him do what he wants, he obviously enjoys it enough to want to purchase another setup. Some people are more content with aesthetics than quality/features (look at all the iPod owners ;)).

lame.
I hate Bose, and the stupid name they have for some reason built for themselves...
tell him to buy at least midrange... like yamaha/denon/hk receivers and mission/paradigm level stuff for speakers..
you can also buy small speakers from good companies such as paradigm and mission too....

If he already has one and is considering another one it's probably a lost cause.

What is that "truth about bose" website? I'm curious?

I have to say the Bose system in my car sucked just as badly as their home systems, if not worse.

Some quick Bose notes:

Speaker tech has not changed in 20 years.
The subwoofer is a triple speaker bandpass box. Muddled sound, distortion, and just basic crap sub.

But as was mentioned above, don't try too hard to "save" him. Point out a few things, and leave him be. Just tell him you won't help him hook up that crap. LoL

Bose makes the best audio systems out there. I highly recommend them over other crap like harmon/kardon and the ilk

There aren't any in that size. You either pick the size or SQ, and to some people size is just as or more important.

Hehe, you should insert an appropriate smiley to convey the sarcasm as there seems to be a lot of broken sarcasm meters lately :D

As for the topic, if the relative hasn't taken a real interest in the wonders of objective sound quality for the dollar, chances are they will never be convinced that Bose is really what Bose is ;) Especially not if the relative is over 30 years of age as older folks tend to really shut their minds to new input and fall back on old data (i.e., Bose used to be competitive in price/performance before the 90's form over function strategy so they're riding on their name and trying all the tricks in the book to make ignorant folks drop the dough for those rip off systems). BTW Bose's "bass modules" aren't really subwoofers, rather just a small array of everyday woofers that accentuate at about 80Hz to make listeners who don't know better think they put out quality bass.

All in all, don't waste your time and energy.

Look up GALLO Speakers. Small and sleek like Bose, but they actually work!

I used to sell electronics, and I loved selling Bose equipments. First, it makes me lots of money, because the profit margins on those things are just ridiculous. Second, I don't really have to "sell" Bose, because people are already sold on Bose, through their impressive marketing and brainwashing. Third, any one that bought Bose will never return them, because they would love to tell their friends that they got a "Bose" system, rather than a surround system with some high end speakers and receivers that the common folks will not recognize.

For most people, Bose will do enough for their needs, because most people don't really now what to look (or listen to in this case) for when it comes to sonic quality. Bose products are not complete garbage, and if any one would say that, then they're also a victim of mass hysteria. They're OK products, might not neccessarily worth the price you're paying for, but nontheless, they're of substance. Before you go off and tell me what do I know, I do own a better surround system than most of yours.

me too. It's his money. Let him get what he wants. You say he already has a Bose system so obviously he's happy with it if he wants another. When it's your money then you can buy what you want.
