Gallo and Athena are great choices. The Athena's can be pretty small too (not quite bose small, but still very small)

Another great choice would be M&K (Miller and Kreisel). I forget the model name but they make a set of tiny speakers
(tiny speakers and a pretty small but good sub) that kicks major ass. So if he refuses to look elswhere because other
speakers are bigger, the M&K might change his mind.

An other possiblilty is Sunfire for a subwoofer. They make a very small sub that competes with most huge monster subs
in power and quality. There are similar ones from Earthquake, and Velodyne.

A set of good small apeakers and one of these small cube subs would make anything Bose has sound like a clock radio.

I don't get it.. I've heard the Bose complaints and don't own any bose products myself (can't afford them- have infinity towers and AR rears) but if they have the same parts as a $200 boom box then why do they sound so much better? I know that they're over priced but whenever I hear my pal's Bose wave radio I have to admit that it DOES sound good.. The bose surround sound set is a bit tinny but still, not as bad as you guys make it out to be...

the wave radio is pretty cool, compared to other clock radios esp.

Yeah but most clock radios don't cost $700 either.

These look just like the bose, sound the same (or should) and cost a hell of a lot less. Get a good subwoofer and a decent center and you're set ..

So true. Many times, if we can just sit back and observe, we will see the person either liking what they purchased - or, learning from their mistake.

Just because I need sub(s) that can travel below 20Hz, does not mean everyone else does, too. ;)
