Seriously? Awesome.

If you're feeling game, see if you can copy a "backup". I'm also interested to know what format the data is stored in. I dunno if you feel like taking the hard drive out and hooking it up to a computer, but if you are that'd rock.

Oh yes, PICS! PICS OR BAN!!!! :p

im also interested in what format its going to be in. and also about putting the hard drive into the computer. if we can put it in the computer, im sure someone could figure out a way to bypass the problem with copying backups. maybe use the computer to make the same kind of image file thats on the ps2 hard drive.

hah. I can get some pics :) just need to clean up first :p I'm in the middle of packing everything up to move out at the end of the week, so my place is looking like a third world country at the moment. lol.

if you can PM me a link on how to burn backups, I'll give it a try. I've never managed to successfully burn a backup PS2 dvd. heh.

Unfortunately I'm just as clueless as you. But if you give me a minute I can ask my friend, who just recently installed a modchip in another friend's PS2.

I've had nothing but problems with mine. I've tried 5 different HD's and none of them format with HDLoader. It sees the drive and then starts to format and then just hangs there. For those that have a hard drive installed. I need a favor. Can you check and see if your drive powers on, then shuts down and powers on again when HDLoader starts up?

Here's my sequence of events:
Turn PS2 power on
DVD-ROM drive spins disc and HD boots up ( have to listen carefully to hear it)
few seconds later the HD powers off (have to listen carefully)
HDLoader startup screen loads and HD powers on again
HDLoader tells me I need to format the HD
Press X
Screen says Formatting. I hear the HD clicking as if it's being accessed (lasts maybe 5 seconds)
Just hangs at that point. Shut down PS2.

From then on, HDLoader will hang at the title screen when I power on the PS2.

I have to remove the HD, put it in a windows machine and format it before HDLoader will recognize it again.

Have no idea what the problem is and I don't know anyone with another Network Adapter (in case it's the N.A.).

could be the NA... could maybe be the hard drive.

I'm running a 100 GB IBM drive. It powers on when the PS2 powers on (don't have to listen carefully), and doesn't power off until I turn the PS2 off (again, don't have to listen carefully... it's pretty load).

I've tried so many HD's that I'm thinking it's not the HD's. Got the N.A. of the interweb so I can't exactly return it to the store. I may have to buy one from the store just to test it out. Then I could try and get a refund if it's defective.

One thing that people will have to be very careful of, overheating. A hard drive is going to create a lot of heat in that little space, and the ps2 is not very well designed for too much heat and airflow. At least the extra caused by a hard drive. Have heard of people having them overheat without a hard drive in before.

Someone should come out with some USB powered fans that clip onto the front where the vents are. They could blow air in but there's no place for it to go. I was planning on using a 5400 RPM drive to try and help the heat issue. If only I could get the damn thing to work.

There are usb fans available, but the heat issue, I think, will still be there. People, like I said earlier, have been reporting overheat issues with stock ps2's, let alone if they throw a 120 gig drive in there.

Just seems like it will be a problem, maybe prematurely killing ps2's.

I've heard reports that certain games require you to insert your game disc at least once when using HD Loader. (Provided you don't have a modchip) Anybody experiencing that?

I pre-ordered mine from Divineo. It took over 2 weeks after the release date for it to finally ship, but other than that complaint, I had no problems.

bockchow -- network adapter is needed to hook the hard drive up to the PS2. there's no other way to connect the hd to the consol.
