Yes and you don't need the Sony HDD. Most drives 40GB-120GB will work. I've read most WD's don't work because they don't line up with the N.A. correctly.

Allows games to be copied to the HD on the PS2. Then you can play them directly from the HD. Games load faster plus no swapping discs when you want to play something different.

IIRC, you use the HDLoader disc to boot. Then select install new game, give it a name and then insert the game disc. After that you boot with the HDloader disc and you get a menu of whatever is installed.

So no mod chip is needed? All you do is rip your already owned game to your HDD and that is it? How does one rip the game? Are there programs like for X-Box that enable you to rip the game from disc to HDD?

I preordered it... should be coming in a few days.

I can't wait... my roommate and I share a PS2, but we're always playing different games, which leads to one of us leaving the other person's game out and getting it all scratched up.

Do I need a modified Playstation 2 in order to use HDLoader?

No - HDLoader is provided as a pressed, bootable Playstation 2 disc. No modifications are required.

That is what it seems. I hope so as I'm about to order one myself. It seems too good to be true.

This is interesting. So if you don't have a PS2 yet, you can just go buy the new one with the network adapter for 150, this thing for 30 bucks, and shove in a spare hd.

u guys read the compatibility faq? Outbreak doesn't work and i'm thinking there may be more and more games out there that might not work...or maybe not. Still a gamble but worth it for $30 if u got the hdd already. If not, you gotta shell out $100+ for hdd plus $30 for this. Remember ALL games don't work online.

From what I understand it may be vaporware. Friends that are heavily into PS2 modding etc have said they believe it is a fraud. Don't take my word for it though, it may actually work. Just be careful before ordering. I don't want to see anyone get ripped off.

Yes, it does. The way I remember it is by the Cartoon Network bit about NTSC standing for Never The Same Color, since NTSC is one of the few standards that allows users to adjust picture tint, saturation, etc.

Fortunately I have a network adaptor and HD already installed. Bully for me!

Now I wonder, will this allow you to copy backups to the HD, or copy disc images to the HD from other sources? (like over a network) If so this will be the modchip killer indeed.
