doesn't surprise me in the least that there are still doubting thomases. you can't persuade close-minded people who are figuratively speaking blind and deaf because to them everything is a conspiracy and everything is doctored.

I really want to let this thread die. Ok, I don't really, it's too funny, so here's another bump.

http://belowthebeltway.com/200.../20/tom-delay-birther/

Tom Delay joins birthers on Hardball, calls for Obama's birth certificate.

He could just be drumming up interest for his appearance on Dancing with the Stars. I mean, who'd pay any attention to Tom Delay on Hardball unless he said something outlandish, right? Not like he's trying to get elected, he just wants those call in votes! Middle America loves that show.

So TheNextRight.com is a conservative website run by thinking conservatives (as opposed to RedState and Freep which are run and frequented by far right wackos) seeking to distance themselves from the lunatic right of the past 8 years.

They called out the RNC for apparent connections to WND (World Net Daily, it's like the Enquirer for conservatives). The RNC responded with weak sauce.

The comments by readers on the site to the story are well written, thoughtful, and completely insane. Putting to rest the claim that birthers are only far right wing nuts. No, they are mainstream conservative nuts.

http://www.thenextright.com/jo...elf-from-worldnetdaily

********

WND's response to his post is, um, precious.
http://www.thenextright.com/jo...worldnetdaily-responds

Joseph Farah at WorldNetDaily...
-He says that WND didn't say they were "concentration camps"; they just said that the legislation "appears designed to create the type of detention center" that people "fear" could be used as "concentration camps for political dissidents, such as occurred in Nazi Germany." He calls this "nuanced".

******

I check out TheNextRight frequently to see the articulated opposition to democratic initiatives explained in a coherent manner. David Frum is another secular conservative intelligencia member with a relatively new site called newmajority.com. These are the conservatives that liberals can have a conversation with, without worrying that they will hear an argument based on religion or conspiracy theory xenophobia.

That website isn't alone. There are people on here who I used to consider 'thinking conservatives' who are also birthers. I'm not sure what it is about the election of Obama, but they've gone batshit crazy because of it.

Nope, there's no racism involved.

A part of the answer may lie in what?s called implicit social cognition, which involves the deep-rooted assumptions we all carry around and even act on without realizing it. Harvard University psychologist Mahzarin Banaji is a leader in implicit social cognition research. She excavates the hidden beliefs people hold by measuring how fast they make value judgments when shown a rapid-fire succession of stimuli, such as photographs of faces.

At a talk she gave in October 2008 to a group of science journalists, Banaji discussed research she did with Thierry Devos, now at San Diego State University, that examined bias against Asians. They found that volunteers linked white Americans more strongly than Asian-Americans with, well, America. Banaji and Devos then decided to do what even they thought was a ?bizarre? study: they had people gauge the ?American-ness? of famous Asian-Americans, such as Connie Chung and tennis player Michael Chang, versus European whites, such as Hugh Grant.

The study found that white Europeans are more ?American? than are nonwhite Americans in most minds.

He's named Barack Hussein Obama and he's coffee colored....there's no way he's american!

Because that will set a precedent that these ridiculous "conspiracies" need to be taken seriously. What's next? "Obama's Children Aren't Really His" Conspiracies? Then are you going to demand that the White House release the tapes showing the Obama's fucking? Do you want all their family photos released? Extensive background investigations into the milk man?

They aren't hiding anything. By not responding they're saying that these accusations are so baseless and dumb that there is no need to respond. By even engaging in a debate they would be adding way too much credibility to this crap.

This would be like if a thousand people came forward and demand that Obama prove he isn't a giant lizard in a human-suit or demand that Obama really did eat at Denny's on Sept 15, 1984. There's no reason to respond and, just by responding, you bring attention, and credibility, to these non-stories.

One does not feed the trolls. If you do so, they come back again with other leeches.

Just like panhandlers that reject food even if they are holding a sign stating they are hungry or have a family to feed.

Correct via bolded addition.

At present, n one knows what the base is.

The Dems will do a good job at defining and creating the new Republican base based on their actions.

Promises that are unkept, keeping the status quo that was campaigned against, digging the country deeper when doing what they decryed against; panicking over items that they have no need to be concerned policially.

All the above will end up having the potential for shooting the Dems in the foot.

truthers are more of a lefty radical group. Maybe you meant deathers or tenthers. It can be confusing with all the similar coined names of the various crazy groups running around. But dems tend to not offer legislation on behalf of their whackjobs.

Oh, but Paulbots are the exception, as they tend toward trutherism too.

well, i would say that there is a decent amount of doubt because of the fact that he has stated many times he was a citizen and went to school in indonesia and unless the information i have read is incorrect, i don't believe one can have dual citizenship in indonesia. i mean if there is this big of a deal, and there really is nothing to hide, then why not show the papers? why not show the school info? hell, we all know W was a "C" student. obama has admitted to using cocaine but nobody raises an eyebrow but when asked about this info about his citizenship comes up, then everybody is crazy and much is spent to hinder the info from coming out either from states or fed regarding the school info. some things make you think and if things don't add up, they don't add up.

if i get pulled over by the police, i have to prove that i have car insurance, the vehicle is mine and that i have a valid drivers license, not copies, but i need the actual item. one would think that to be the president one would have to prove their citizenship and if doubt is raised then it should be dealt w/ to get on w/ other issues. if there is no problem, the show the school papers and be done w/ it, but that won't happen. if those records are sealed, why? either somebody just likes to be talked about, which i can understand w/ the egomaniac that is obama or something is not right.

hell, a person was just required to prove they were indeed a woman after running extremely fast and looking "too lean" to be a woman and it turned out they were in fact a hermaphrodite, so sometimes things do need to be proven.

The problem is that wouldn't dispel all the conspiracy theories. You can never appease them, even when you meet their demands with facts.

Conspiracy theorists claimed he wasn't a citizen.
Obama had the copy of birth certificate the campaign obtained released.
Conspiracy theorists said it was PhotoShop and "proved it" with analysis of text halos, lack of creases, lack of a raised seal, etc. . .
Obama had third parties examine it and more images popped up showing clear text, creases, a raised seal, etc. . .
Conspiracy theorists said it was a forgery and had "proof" from their forensic analysts.
Obama had the staffers in the Hawaii Department of Health verify that the document number was that of a legitimate birth certificate.
Conspiracy theorists said wouldn't believe it unless someone from the state made a public and official statement.
Obama had the Health Department Director and the registrar of vital statistics issue a press release stating they personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.

What's next? After releasing the original birth certificate, conspiracy theorists will want affidavits from the doctors and nurses. After releasing LSAT scores, conspiracy theorists will want every paper written while in law school. After releasing college transcripts, conspiracy theorists will want every exam taken in college. After releasing SAT scores, conspiracy theorists will want high school transcripts.

Conspiracy theorists claim cover up by the Governor, ignoring that she's Republican and has been anti-Obama. Conspiracy theorists claim special restrictions by the Hawaii government just for Obama's records, ignoring that the laws preventing the general release of everyone's records have been on the books for decades. Conspiracy theorists claim he wasn't born in Hawaii, ignoring the birth certificate and birth announcement in the paper. Conspiracy theorists claim he has a Kenyan birth certificate, ignoring the fact that they weren't required for foreigners back then, and foreigners had to find the right government office, wade through layers of bureaucracy, and pay a fee to get a Kenyan birth certificate issued.

The tinfoil hat brigade believes in a plot by both Republicans and Democrats, by a state governor and state officials, by the US government and the Kenyan government, by today's media and newspapers back in the 60s, and apparently in a white teenager's ability to mastermind a scheme to lay down a paper trail to make her Kenyan born son appear to be a natural born citizen because in the 1961 she thought her half black kid would someday become president, but also in a teenage mastermind that's somehow stupid enough to jump through hoops to pay for a Kenyan birth certificate before rushing back to the US.

Everyone else believes Obama was born in Hawaii.

Note the irony that you asked the exact same question on the previous page and got the above answer and came back and asked the exact same question again.
