They never claimed that, there was a misunderstanding in an interview. The American interviewer asked for clarification that he was born in Kenya and was immediately corrected by Obama's 'elder relative' that she had been misunderstood and that he was born in Hawaii.

Do Birthers honestly think that anyone born in a foreign country, even with a faked birth certificate, would be allowed to run for the President of the United States? The vetting system that occurs for that must be incredibly intense, far more than some random kid sitting in a basement, breathing through his mouth, analyzing a photo of a birth certificate. This is a non-issue.

My favorite part of this insanity is when people start pulling apart the printed birth certificate and trying to show there are elements that clearly make it a forgery. They seem to forget that the certificate put forth by Obama IS a Hawaii birth certificate, issued a few years ago to Obama on his request. It can't be a fake. Their beef might be with the information it conveys, but I love seeing guys look at the high-res pictures and start talking out of their ass.

To repeat, Hawaii issues only the Certification of Live Birth these days. It is accepted as proof of birth in the USA by the US State Department.

How do I know that? From this e-mail from the Department of Health in Hawaii:

"It is possible that we have records with more information but we issue only certified computer-generated certificates with certain necessary information to confirm a birth. We are the only agency that issues certified birth records for Hawaii

As noted, the certification of live birth is the official document used to get a driver?s license, to show at a job interview, or to apply for a passport. Unless your family has retained the original birth certificate, you cannot get it from the Department of Health of Hawaii these days. But that?s okay, the certification of live birth is a legal document, and it proves birth in Hawaii.
