Having a 175 mile daily commute is so great:(

My commute consists of:

8 minutes to my first job in the early AM (4:30)
10 minutes from first job to second job in early PM (1:00)
15 minutes home from second job in late PM (10:00)

Viper GTS

:Q 175 miles every day?? That's about how far my school (university) and home are from each other - I can't imagine that distance as a daily commute!

If I had longer than 20 minute commute to work, I'd move. No way I'd jump through hoops to work in the city, either.

Depending on the day and traffic conditions, my one way drive time is 20 up to 60 minutes. Distance: 8.3 miles. Yeah Atlanta traffic sucks!

Unless you have zero choice... you guys are nuts. That's ridiculous the amount of time you waste each day just to get to and from the job. Not to mention gas money, etc.

My fiancee travels 1.5 hours by train each way, each day and I've been nagging her to get a job closer. 3 hours of wasted free time every single day. She pays $250 per month for ticket money on top of it. Sigh.

Ideal is 5 miles... cause working from home is pretty lonely too. 😉

I'd have to agree - life is too short to spend hours in the car every day. I had a 40-minute commute at one time and it made me nuts. I can't even imagine driving 175 miles a day, every day.

2.5 hours a day * 250 days = 625 hours a year.

16 waking hours a day * 365 days = 5840 hours a year.

You are thus spending nearly 11% of your useable life driving to/from work. I could never do that. I'd move or get another job. It would probably be cheaper in the long run - depending on how you do that commute (even if it meant a move to a more expensive area or a job cut).

4 mile daily commute for me and I even complain about that at times.

about 3 blocks for me every day

in the winter when there arnt any leafes on the trees i can see work from my house

I do about 90 a day. Not too bad.. 45 mins to and hour to work, 45 mins to an hour home. It's all I have ever known so I guess I dont know what having a short commute would be like.

It's a co-op job I need for school. I was only going to work here six months and didn't want to move again after I had just got settled into my Gramma's house. After I finish school, hopefully I won't have more than a half hour commute.

You should, it's a p.o.s. 91 Dodge Spirit with 145k miles on it. I'm thinking about replacing it with a 94-97 Miata.🙂

I used to have a 30-40mins commute from Sac to Davis each way. Now, I take the train for 20mins, then walk 1/2mi each way. 🙂 Best of all is that my employer subsidizes the train pass, so total cost of going to work is $15/month.
