Only once. With the original Xbox (with the FAT, HAMBURGER controllers). I was probably 18.
Game was College Hoops 2k5 or 6.
Playing career mode, you start out as HC of a shitty school, and earn offers from better schools (that leads to more success, obviously) by winning games. As the HC of Navy, I somehow made it to the NCAA Tournament, and WON in the first round.
In the second round, I'm UP over whoever I'm playing by something like 7 points with under 3 minutes to play. If I win, I'm guaranteed an offer from a big time school. If I lose, I'm stuck for another year at least, struggling to match that success.
Long story short, the CPU just kept finding ways....cheap ways....to win. Suddenly easy LAYUPS for me were rolling off the rim, I couldn't hit free throws, and of course, the CPU is nailing 3-pointers all the rest of the game.
With a few seconds left, and a 2 point lead, I'm fouled. BOTH free throws miss, the CPU rebounds, drives down the court, and hits a 3 pointer with 2.4 seconds left. I, of course, miss on the inbounds pass/shoot, and they win by 2.
As soon as the buzzer sounded, I chuck the controller ahead, hitting a cabinet, while shouting "
F*CK THAT!".
I don't believe the controller even got a scratch. Those of you who remember the original, first gen Xbox controller probably won't be surprised though:
Haven't done it before or since. I treat my gaming stuff like gold. Original NES, SNES, Genesis PSX, Saturn, etc, still have their original boxes, manuals, and controllers/accessories from when they were new.
