I've never run from a cop, but I did have kind of a weird experience one time. I was doing about 5-10 over the limit on a rural interstate when the lights came up behind me. Damnit, busted, I thought. But as I pull over to the right, the cop pulls alongside me to the left and tells me through his PA that he is going to chase after some other speeder as well and that I am to follow him, and then he would pull us both over together (that's what he said). He then takes off doing at least 90mph. Okay... I thought, I'm not going to speed behind a cop no matter what he tells me to do. Long story short, I never saw him again. Really wierd.

1967 I was stationed at Fort MacArthur, CA. I just got promoted to Sgt. E-5. Went out to celebrate with a buddy in Long Beach (navy town). Well, we hit a few bars and got pretty smashed. Walked out of the last bar, got into the car (my '64 GTO) and took off for the base. I saw lights blinking in my mirrors and realized I was being pulled over by the Shore Patrol. Not good. We being Army and they being Navy.

I dropped it into 2nd and floored it, opening up all three carbs. I got far enough ahead to make some turns and thought I had lost them. Unfortunately, I turned down a street that was under construction. The pavement ended and there was a 2 foot drop into dirt for as farr as I could see. I hit the binders and gave it up. When you're cornered you might as well admit it.

Little did I realize how much of a commotion I had caused. Within seconds 6 LAPD squad cars and 3 shore patrol units pulled up behind me.

Can you say BUSTED!

After spending time in the Navy brig and then the Army stockade, I was busted to private E-2 and fined severely.

I hope you realize now that you deserved every bit of it.

I never denied responsibility. I owned up to it and three months later I was an E-4 again.....in a foreign land. I guess they didn't like me.:D

The statutes of limitation are expired so I can tell my tale...

I had a very fast car in the 80's and early 90's (76 Tran's Am, 455, 4-speed Hurst shifter, custom Isky crank, custom exhaust with Hooker headers. I also had a brakelight cut-off switch.

I was cruising at about 80 or 90 down a non-major interstate HW one night when I saw the lights of a pursuit vehicle. Being the punk I used to be, I turned off my headlights, sped up, and hit my brakelight cut-off switch(this keeps the brake lights 100% off even when you hit them). I got a few miles ahead and turned off and pulled off on a side road exit and watched several HW patrol cars fly right by.

I sat there for about an hour before I tried to get back home. I don't recommend anybody else try this because I was a trained and lucky idiot. :)

Not really run by definition, but carefully avoided without further breaking laws.

I slid on some ice before an intersection when a light turned yellow, so I floored it and sped through a just-turned-solid-red light, hitting about 10 over the limit I would say, and as I flew through there was a cop in the left turn lane in the opposite direction.

He flipped on his lights, I knew for me but hey he wasnt behind me, so I kept my speed at 5-10 over and made a long detour home through lots of neighborhoods, never saw the guy again. Couldn't get me for evading arrest but would have made the guy just overly pissed and probably would have gotten 2 times as many tickets as I normally would have.

Wow, I'm surprised. I thought only complete idiots would try to run from the cops. :)

I do have a funny story though from someone here at college. This guy was walking back to his dorm with a brown paper bag in his hands and there were two cops or right outside of the dorm entrance. When they noticed him, he shouted, "Oh f-" and went running into the bushes. One cop shouted "Get him" and they go after him. However, the bag just had food in it, so he fooled them. He actually did end up getting in some trouble for evading an officer or something like that, I'm not sure.

Im not sure if that was legal. But my friend in drivers ed had this crazy teacher. If he ever saw a cop speeding without his lights on he would follow him at the same speed just for the hell of it. So this one time the guy was telling the kid to take a left and this cop goes flying by, the drivers teacher stops the car and takes the drivers seat real quick and starts following this cop. The cop gets on the freeway and is hitting around 110 MPh. about 5 miles down the freeway the cop realizes his lights arent on and turns them on. Driver teacher goes to regular speed and continues on his lesson.

Weird, oh and by the way. This is one of my friends that i know isnt just making this sh!t up.

What were they gonna do, shine me with their flashlights? :p

Were you in a public area or were you in a dormitory?

If you're on campus, the campus police have the same authority as the regular police - they can and will arrest you and charge you, if the situation warrants it.

Depends on the college, though; at my school, they don't mess around with people. Other colleges may have different policies.

My friends blew by a campus cop once; they were going at least 60-70mph in a 25... at 3am.

Me and a couple buds had just finished a small bottle of Captain Morgan's in my pos '85 Cavalier. So I start driving toward the road with my lights off. Just then a cop passes right where I'm about to pull out and flips a bitch when I turn my lights on and get on the road! My friend-in-the-front-seat screams at me, "GO, GO, GOOOOO!!!!" So me, follower that I was, obeyed my master and slammed it into first and started ripping through the gears.

So I zip through the back side of a parking lot, intending to get to the other side and pull into an empty spot. FVCK!!! Musta been a busy night at the diner cause all the spots closest to the building were full. I scan the rest of the lot (quickly) and I spot one about 120 degrees from where I'm pointed. Never do a 3-point turn while trying to evade someone. Especially when you only lead by 4 seconds.

As I coast to a stop in my spot and kill the lights, the cop finally rounds the corner and I see a shadow of my own head with blue and red lights around it in front of me as I duck. I told Agent Smith I'd had a "couple beers" over at my sister's. It was true.

"Where does she live?" Oh, crap! How am I gonna rat on my own sister?

"Somewhere on College Road, I think. She just moved there so I'm not real sure exactly." Vague enough.

So next is the breathalizer. You know if you exhale fast, it tricks the tester? I pass it with like .0008%, but it doesn't matter. I was 19 so they hit me with Minor Consumption because I admitted to drinking ANY alcohol. Lost my license for 3 months!! A long time without a car.

That sucked the big one for hence cometh the onset of winter. I was bumming rides and biking to work almost the whole time. I got my work release driver permit about 3 weeks from the end, after going through driver improvement school and paying all the fees that mysteriously appeared.

If only there'd been a parking space at the front of the Jeffrey's diner!!

I'm not sure someone could go that fast on the roads at my school.

No. I have no need to (I obey the law). And besides, you can't outrun the radio. And you can't outrun the motorcycle cops (with a car at least)

Back in HS (looong ago), I was driving home from work going 61 in 45. Saw a cop pull out with lights about half mile behind me. I was familiar with my neighborhood, so I quickly turned and started burrowing into small residential streets. I then parked in a hidden quiet area breathing a sigh of relief.

. . . Until Mr. Cop drove up behind me. I have no idea how he found me, but he didn't ticket me even though I gave him a uber lame excuse.

Several times, but it was when I was a teenager. Mostly on foot IIRC. I don't think I actually ran from the cops in a car.

Yes I have. Not in this country though, and not because I broke the law. It was at political demonstrations which often turned violent.

I was thinking about it after I got caught stealing something from K-mart years ago (I was a stupid 15 year old).. The store manager called the cops and I thought about pushing my way out of the room and making a run for it.. Luckily I realized that I'm a minority and that cops have guns.. All I got was a warning and then I was released to my parents...

Oh, if you are in a tight situation, keep a radio jammer in your car :)D you're fvcked if you are busted) and floor it to the nearest airport - the helicopter can't enter that airspace.

My father knows a guy that drives a motorcycle that would regularily tease cops around LAX and just bust it to 100+ because he knew they couldn't do jacksh|t.

The key is to get out of the situation before they break out the backup and the helicopter. As soon as that happens, you're fvcked.
