You have to admit that it does get boring around here unless one manufacturer has a lead over the other.

No, thats not it - I think its blatantly obvious to even the terminally thick that one manufacturer certainly does have quite the lead over the other at present, yet "things are boring" in video (unless of course the rabble-rousers start their nonsense)...

They didnt do just fine in the AMD XP days. They survived.
Where did you see this. Last I checked they did quite well despite not having the performance crown.

imagine if Rollo were still here

Rollo is still hear among us... some say he is crusader and other say he is wreckage. Which ever new name he goes by now... he will always be in our memory. He wasn?t a NVIDIA employee like most people believe but he was associated to NVIDIA viral program which brought his downfall :frown: . He represented Nvidia like no one could do in our little anandtech forum.
clearly no one of his "stature" is here .. his "replacements" are beyond dull and can't even hold "their end" up in a debateOriginally posted by: CaiNaM

lmao.. it's funny now often you guys talk about rollo, esp considering how hard many of you guys worked to get him booted.
and no, rollo is neither wreckage or crusader; that should be blatantly evident as neither of them are nearly as entertaining.
rollo doesn't post here anymore (it's been about a year since he posted under another name), tho he does read the threads from time to time.
Do you have one of Rollo's threads bookmarked or something?Originally posted by: apoppin

heh.. he has no desire to come back (other than perhaps lurking now and then to see if there's anything interesting being discussed). perhaps partly due to the title of this thread
or maybe he just like God mode in the forums he mods so he can ban rather than be the banee![]()

What has your little outburst got to do with the rest of this thread??? The only time drivers were really discussed it was concerning R200 not G80!
You are the one who should have been banned, not Rollo.

What happened to the experienced, knowledgeable users on this forum.
First off, AMD/ATI is not going to go out of business. Just because they don't have their High End part out yet, does not mean they are in any trouble whatsoever. Not only that, they haven't lost much market share at all. Think about it, there is a very small percentage that buys High End Video cards.
Nvidia's drivers are not as bad as people (Particularly the Inq) make them out to be. You are an absolute fan boy if you think their drivers are bad enough that they might as well not have released the card. While they have their bugs (more than normal), they are improving with each release. Nvidia may not have chosen the best to release a completely new architecture on top of providing support for a new OS.
These lawsuits are ridiculous, go nowhere, and help nobody. What in the world are people's basis for a class action lawsuit? They don't have the drivers we are used to out. I'll give you a hint, this happens with every single new OS (MS based) release. All you are going to do is divide the companies attention and cause everyone else a whole lot of grief. Reminding them that we are here and waiting is good, but seriously these lawsuits are absolutely ludicrous.
Now, people posting that they are swearing off one brand or the other have lost it as well. Why would you swear off an entire brand because they continue to push it back. Are you saying that if they produce a card 2x as fast you wont buy it because it was late? For those who are swearing Nvidia off- Are you saying you are going to swear them off forever because they don't have the most stable drivers out there? Give me a break people, stop being prima donna's and live with it!
I honestly hope people will start thinking before they exaggerate beyond belief the events pertaining to the video cards.

Honestly I dont even know what the big deal is.... No good drivers for Vista? So what? Screw Vista. Why would I want it if I'm perfectly fine with XP? Hell I dont even want it at all! It's like throwing away an old comfortable jacket to buy a new one just because your wife said so! But the old one feels so good and so right... lol
Those who must be on the bleeding edge have to deal with driver problems. That's the reality. I'm sure these people are NOT the majority. I'm sure that the people who bought Vista for the "right" reasons are happy with it, and do not complain. Those who torrented Vista and play around with it for fun are those who whine and cry on forums because the new "toy" did not live up to their expectations.

I always see the "perfectly fine with XP" argument for not going to Vista. Matter of fact is, we would all still be fine with Windows 95, heck, we might be perfectly fine without computers either (we might even be better than today) but the truth is we will always want something more advanced or better, Vista is better, you can be fine with XP but you could be better with Vista and Vista does really alleviate tons of issues XP has. If XP is the only OS you have ever used, sure its going to be the best because thats all you know but once you use Mac OS X and Linux you realize there is a lot of stuff that could be better with XP.
And I swear, if I ever heard one of these stupid lawsuits again, I'll completely lose faith in the US Law System (I already have almost completely), it is no wonder some people think citizens of the United States (why do they call themselves Americans?) are so dumb.
But I digress...
