Looks good to me, put me down for whatever the base variant of the 8 core version will be or the Xtreme if that is the only SKU where the 8 core will show up.

This looks like a beast, only disappointment is Intel taking 3 years to provide an upgrade for SB-E (IB-E doesn't really cut the mustard in my book with a 5% improvement) I guess there is nowhere near the interest in these chips that nvidia and AMD see for high end GPUs that get refreshed much more often with much bigger performance increases.

Eight cores is awesome to see coming.

I'm totally with you on this. I can't wait for an overclocking 8 core cpu.

"We're not slowing down" -- Well, good thing because they're going pretty slow to start with :D

That will most likely first come with Skylake-E on the LGA20xx platform.

That would be a joke if so. Z97 boards coming out mid-year are going to have SATA Express, so why would boards launching end-2014 or early 2015 not have it?

"Only" 8 cores and using expensive DDR4 RAM, if it's missing SATA Express too then wow.

Desktop refresh might mean Broadwell ;)

Keeping the dream alive I see :p I still think that if they meant Broadwell, they just would have said Broadwell- especially since all other uArches were listed by name. (Including IB, which would have been the SB refresh by your proposed system.)

It's not out of the question entirely of course- and we could well see some more R-series parts. 14nm integrated GPU? Yes please!

As long as this ''Haswell refresh'' means 10-20% highers clocks then why Broadwell? Haswell is already very power efficient.. especially at idle. Broadwell is still coming in BGA form to desktops anyway for those that are interested in its new graphics architecture (possibly much faster than Haswell's)

i dont care about power efficient..
i dont care if its HOT
i dont care if its even fluffy as long as its the destroyer of worlds.

when people buy a 1000 dollar cpu, we buy the "destroyer of worlds"..

So my ivy-e upgrade is just went down the toliet, cuz haswell is X99...

SIGH.....

I'm trying to figure out why this slide deck even exists at this point in time... This would seemingly make many who are considering a marginal upgrade from SB-E to Ivy-E just say "meh, I can wait for Has-E"

I'm trying to figure out a business reason why we're seeing this, but I can't.
What I really wonder is if they'll kill off the K series in the midrange and try to force everyone who wants to OC into the "-E" lines. Maybe they're trying to hype the Has-E because they're gonna drop a bomb somewhere else? That's all I can think.

I knew this would be worth waiting for! I can finally replace my X58 build! My i7 920 will be 6 years old by the time I upgrade.

u see why i rage so hard at intel lately?

i have no freaken clue on what intel is exactly trying to do.

And yes i also feel they are trying to kill the mainstream of overclocking..
slowly stringing u guys to death sort of speak.

And trying to push overclockers into the more expensive territory known as enterprise.

For the longest time us overclockers have been milking the lower end cpu's and pushing them way above the extreme end cpus even.

Seems like intel doesn't like that anymore and they are starting to punish...

I have an i3 2100 and I am patiently waiting for IVY E to come out. The prices of haswell and ivy E will help determine my upgrade path.

I can't wait for haswell E since my CPU is a bottleneck in BF3 and BF4.

Lack of competition, mobile segment and CPU's are powerful enough for >95% of people. Data centers just need more perf/watt. Pretty hard to get excited by new processors since the might have ~10% better IPC, but they also clock ~10% worse every generation.

I don't think I want to wait that long. Let's see how Ivy-E overclocks.

But Ivy-E probably won't seem so good to those already with Sandy-E...

It's definitely been clear they're pumping OCers for money. I just can't help but think that the only reason for this kind of hype right now is because they know they have some other news that is not going to be well received. What would that be? All I can think is no more Ks for the mainstream.... but we'll see.

Hopefully someone else can come up with a decent business reason why we're seeing this slide at this point in time. Because even if this was an accidental leak, Has-E is too far out for this kind of PR to be around... They're cooking something.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be great for the people who regularly buy the -E CPUs, it sure looks good from that standpoint. I just have a bad feeling about this for the lower budget segments.

Well, I wish Intel's mainstream consumer CPUs would have 8 cores (16 threads), without an IGP, as an option, but if this is how they are going to release 8-cores for consumers, I'll take it. It sounds like a pretty decent platform, and DDR4 is exciting. I hope that DDR4 DIMMs will start out with larger sizes than DDR3 is currently commonly found in, like perhaps 32GB per DIMM on the high-end starting out.

These will probably come out as "Extreme Edition" type processors and with probable price tags > $1K, they will be out of reach of most users. Even enthusiasts draw the line at some point, opting for best bang for buck rather than over spending on a single component.

The server folks will use Xeons which leaves only professionals needing speedy workstations and small personal users market.

There's no incentive for intel to price these octa-core processors low, they have existing hexa-cores for the lower tiers.

Looks like i7 3820 and i7 4820K are going to be replaced with six cores, because 6 cores is the minimum for haswell-E according to source.

Man...Now I feel a need to make my 980X system last another year...The one gripe I have with this high end platform strategy intel has is that it is one year behind, it brings into question whether I want to splurge on Haswell-E when Skylake might have some significant IPC increases or features that are very tempting. Then again an 8 core Haswell would probably last an incredibly long amount of time for gaming purposes in any case. Speaking of which, do we know if Skylake is bringing a new PCIE revision?
