Appeal EMOTIONALLY to someone in regards to the electronics they purchase. It makes it easier to make someone happy when they are not comparing actual numbers. When you take the stats out of a computer, you make the semi-technical and non-technical more comfortable around it.

The amount I enjoy a product matters. It's not about the technical specifications at all - they could be including half the RAM that others give and processors that are 6 months older than competitors, and I will still buy the Apple computer.

Again, it's about the design of the product and ease of use. Apple gets user interface and the product is a lot nicer to use. The only "technical specification" that I compare with people is battery life - I get 5-6 hours on my MBP under OSX and 2 hours on Windows 7.

I used to be in the same boat as you - I'd compare the specs and say how dumb this is, because if the design of the case is worth so much, then why is it a $500 premium on this laptop. Turned out, it's the ability to put together such an amazing combination that matters to me.

I enjoy using it from the very moment I pull it out of the box. I don't need to uninstall anything, format it to get rid of 50 unneeded items, etc., I just turn it on and use it.

Again, I used to say exactly the same things as you, but then others dragged me into it and I really started to enjoy it. Looking back, I was "putting up" with the computers I had before this.

I even once used the argument that I'm better off having a computer that has problems, because it forces me to keep things backed up. It's better to handle disaster well rather than just decrease the odds of a disaster, the former was more valuable to me.

Eventually, I got the MBP, and I'm not interested in going back to anything else. I really do like Windows 7 though and if Microsoft decided to create laptops like Apple with a great interface (not just software, the hardware interface) and amazing integration of everything, I might switch.

While I agree that OSX's interface is superior, to me, it's about having a really well put together GUI over a very competent CLI, having a BSD backend makes so much difference to me. For me OSX is like the most user-friendly linux distro

I'm with you on this one. Once I moved from a windows laptop and got the MBP 13, I don't see myself buying another windows laptop any time soon. Now that my MBP 13 is a year old, it still feels like a new laptop to me because the design and its thin construction is still the best in the business.

When I had my dell 1520 that thing aged extremely fast within 1yr, but I could still see myself having no problem owning my MBP 13 for 2yrs+. That is longevity, and to me that is very valuable when it comes to electronics.

All I see are Apple fanboys making poor excuses for the premiums they pay. Aga, you can do a google search for an article on how to improve your MBP battery life in Windows. It won't be as good as in OSX, but you should see quite an improvement over 2 hrs.

That's exactly the problem - I can spend hours tweaking my Windows install to squeeze it out to 2.5 hours, call it 3 hours, but it's still far away from the 5-6 hours that OSX gives me without any configuration.

Look, I used to be just the same as you - I listed my desktop's configuration in my signature, I even knew which revision the motherboard was, the speed at which the ALU's ran, etc., and then I realized that I didn't really care. I have things I want to complete or things I want to enjoy, so I do those, and the products that Apple puts together accomplish that very well for me.

You. Just. Dont. Get. It.

For the bazillionth time, some people want their computer to just work. They dont want to spend hours upon hours making their laptop comparable to another one.

Have you ever heard of opportunity cost? Some people don't have the time to tweak their computer for hours on end.

You. Just. Dont. Get. It.

Don't Apple computers have middle of the road rates for reliability?

Ah I see you have no explanation for your argument that all products that aren't essential for the daily work of the planet are not smart purchases, so you've moved on to battery life

No worries. When your PC breaks you can always talk to some dude in India who gets 30 cents and hour to read a script to you.

I see hypocrites... If you just want something to just "works" and truly don't care about specs, then any laptops would do.

I think the people that "don't.really.get.it" are idiots. I truly stopped caring a while back, and haven't done anything to the laptops I bought lately, and they "just.work" too. If you want a faster machine, pay a bit more; if you're one of those people that "get.it", then buy iStuffs.

Hmm my experience is that Windows machines "just work" for a very small ammount of time, if nothing is done to them. After a while they "just don't work"

Then you don't know how to properly maintain a laptop.

Did you open attachments from people you don't know that were named "lol.msi" and then allow it to run... and accept the prompt... etc.

It is almost hard to screw up a windows PC now.

You moron, he was complaining about his battery life in Windows 7 I was letting him know there is a way to extend his battery life if he was interested. Wah wah wah, guess what my laptop when I got it it just WORKS, it has never not just WORKED. It also has XP on it. OSX is no less idiot proof than Windows.

I know very well how to maintain a laptop, but it's awesome to have one that doesn't need maintenance... Hence it just works ;)

Maintenance being windows update?

Yeah, that's a rough automatically done while im asleep experience.

If that's what you refer to as "how to properly maintain a laptop" then you have no idea what you're doing.
