Thank for your semantic argument.

It changes nothing about my post, they are the same generation of architecture and have nothing to do with the timetable i am discussing.

I do apologize for not being abundantly, overwhelmingly clear about what i was stating.

I will make my argument crystal clear for you so we can avoid the silly side arguments.

The Macbook Pro was only upgraded to Core iX architecture recently. The Macbook is still using last years hardware... The Macbook Pro only received an upgrade to the Geforce 320/330 series as well.

The fact that Apple runs a severe lag on hardware is a big minus to someone shopping for performance.

Your argument was that they've only just added core x architecture to macbooks/macbook pros. When SB is about to come out, when infact they added it 8 months ago...

Yes for the price they charge they should have Core i7s with Geforce 460M standard. ;)

Well I cant answer all of those questions but I do know os x server will allow you to deploy software from a centrally managed location. For the rest of the items on your list I would suggest googling and finding out.

I have googled those things when someone said "why can't we just use Macs in our AD/Windows environment?" and there was no good answer. I believe there is a 3rd party product that will do some of those things but you have to purchase and install it on every domain controller in the infrastructure, but why pay for things that are built into Windows already? Hell, we let one VP bring in a Mac and he ended up running parallels on it and having our XP image in a VM and using that. I wanted to tell him how dumb it was to boot up on his Mac to a VM of Windows XP but I just facepalmed and walked away...

I've heard that from people who only know Windows. When I first installed OSX I had some WTF moments trying to figure things out. But my thinking has changed somewhat and I not only understand the different way OSX does some things, but I actually prefer them. Like in Windows it's called backspace, where in OSX it's called delete. I hated that for about a month but it makes more sense to me now because when I press it it DELETES something.

I use both and both are far from perfect.

So what does OSX call Delete?
Also backspace doesn't delete "things", it deletes text. Nothing else.

at least an HTC has a battery door...

Good thing it does considering its poor battery life.

Adobe Premiere for Mac is identical to the PC version, and is far superior to iMovie which is comparable to consumer level software like Pinnacle.

I think the poster was referring to Final Cut Studio, not Adobe Premiere.

Macbooks JUST NOW got core i3s just before Sandy Bridge will be released. They JUST upgraded to geforce 320m and 330m's on their flagship notebook.

Where Apple is the clear winner is flashy design (thin notebooks, aluminum unibody, backlit keyboard, etc), top notch screens, and top notch support.

It is sickeningly bad how a concentration on aesthetics somehow gives people the illusion that the low-mid range hardware is somehow faster.

The MBPs got the Core iSeries for a while now. The MBP 13 still uses the Core2Duo, but I believe Apple went that route because they aren't able to fit a discrete GPU in it.

Instead of a Core i3 and its weak IGP, Apple opted for a Core2Duo with a NVIDIA IGP.

The low end macbooks are going intel integrated when the SB models come out. Which should be around time for xmas next year :p

I apologize, I don't follow apple launches closely enough to accurately know launch dates. I was equating the iX macbook launch to the time that data began leaking about next gen products. Im sure we can expect a similar situation when the MBPs finally get Sandys and Geforce 530m GPUs.

So long as Apple touts that the hardware in their MB/MBP is next gen and the consumers are stupid enough to believe them without doing any research, Apple will continue to do well. When Apple came out recently with Optimus and heralded it as an Apple creation and no one said shit, I almost got on a plane to Palo Alto to burn that motherf*&ker to the ground.

Apple gets to say whatever the fuck they want about Microsoft because they are viewed as being the underdog, but whenver MS tries to take a stand they get the shit kicked out of them by everyone from the hipsters to the fucking EU. Why is it that the EU hasn't required Apple to create a ballot box for browsers on their PCs?

Apple didn't invent Optimus, but I think they were the only laptops at the time that incorporated it. It wasn't until shortly after that other laptops started using it. Although I do agree that they shouldn't have said they invented it.

Looking back at the entire Macbook line, Apple has never lagged behind until the release of the Core iSeries. Apple has always had their macbook line similar in specs with other manufacturers, so I'm not sure where all these claims of Apple always being behind comes from. Its only happened once.

As computers have become more mainstream, consumers are treating them more and more like consumer electronics rather than computers.

Just look at "smart" phones. They are certainly computers but consumers certainly don't treat them as such.

Specs in the consumer electronics area mean less and less each year.
(unless you are a techie but that is like 1% of the population)

I like both but Win7 takes the cake. Both OS's eventually slow down (just like on any pc) but I've never seen Windows get that slow. Thats my only real gripe.

Mac sucks

iPhone rules

Don't let the iPhone lead you to the rest of Apples products unless they are also iDevices. They're computers are overpriced piles of shit. Well, they aren't shit but they are WAYYY overpriced and you get the same components for a lot less with a PC. If you want to run OSX, then build a Hackintosh and save a grand or two. Your daughter to be will thank you later.

I hear this a lot but I bet you I could complete a list of tasks in OSX faster than somebody could in Windows.

wtf??

I have 2 g5 computers that have been running osx 10.4 since like 2006. No slow downs and they work (as in earn money) every day.

Meanwhile I can do a million things on Windows that you can't even do on a Mac, so bite me.

Look we all get a little crazy about this issue. The core is the software we use and need for whatever tasks we use it for. Sometimes things like familiarity with the os matters most. So its impossible to state one if better then the other. The only thing I dont like about the bashing os x gets is a lot of misinformed statements about what it can and cant do.

For those situations I have bootcamp. So I get the best of both worlds.

And I can run OSX on my hackintosh anytime I want. So I can get the best of both worlds too, except that my video card is 2x better and my computer was half the price

Running Win7 on my work macbook pro with SSD.

The trackpad is ok for jerking off on the internet, sucks for trying to do work with...

Oh and they can go fsck themselves for making a key labeled delete that is really backspace. Also sucks there is no page up, home, end, ... keys.

The Mac touchpad is awesome if you're just browsing around on the internet etc, espeically since there is Microsoft Office for Mac. I had a Macbook Pro that I loved but I didn't use it much because I'm a gamer.

Other things to consider:
If you back up your stuff on an external HD, Mac doesn't support NTFS. You have to reformat any storage device to FAT32.
Having the "Spaces" 4 desktop screens is very nice.
I don't know if you use paint for anything but I use it a lot and you have to live without it on the Mac, although you can capture your screen and it will save that picture right on your desktop for you.

The ful sized apple keyboard has those keys. I bet any laptop without a numpad is also missing those keys.

A track pad would hardly ever be useful for work.

Why don't you put a dollar amount on all the hours that it took you to make THAT work

Anyway, I want to build a hackintosh too for those exact reasons. But realistically speaking hackintoshes are only viable for those of us with enough tech savvy to make it work.

went os x couple of years ago and never looked back. I'm reminded every day how god awfull wintendo is because of my vista laptop at work. Never tried win7 but vista is such a buggy slow piece of crap. I always have to laugh with these so called windows power users when they are clicking away in their fisherprice UI. In my previous job I was l lucky that I could choose my own os for my workstation so I installed myself a linux workstation running ubuntu. The Thinkpad sitting next to it was just a very expensive exchange mail client :) Not so lucky anymore in my current job, god I hate vista
