has anyone adopted a no eating policy after 6 or 7pm? Good for losing weight?

It's a myth that a late dinner will add pounds. An extra meal after an early dinner will add pounds.

Going to sleep on a full stomach is only likely to cause indigestion and will not influence where you store the energy from the food you have eaten. Many people believe the old wives tale that "it is fattening to eat late at night". But this is incorrect.

However, as with all old wives tales, there is an element of truth behind it. For example, if you consistently eat an extra meal at night or start to drink a few beers every night the calories will mount up and within a few weeks you will notice a difference in your weight. Weight gain is not determined by the time of day you eat but by your total calorie intake during the day. It is also important to note that you will only gain weight if you consistently increase your calorie intake for weeks at a time.

See thats the problem with most people they eat and continue to snack until bedtime.

People should eat 3 hrs before they go to bed and not snack.

My point is that if you're busy and can't get dinner until later, don't skip it out of fear of weight gain.

Also, if you eat 5-6 meals a day, you can have your last closer to bedtime so you don't get hungry. Again, without this fear that food eaten before bedtime will turn to fat.

I eat dinner around 7PM and my next meal don't come until 8AM next morning if I have time and 1PM if I don't. So it's 1PM and 7PM everyday. It's terrible.

Look.
This is not about food eaten after 7 P.M turns to fat or anything like that.
Why do we eat food?
For energy.
Do you need energy to sleep?
No.
I say if you are looking to cut down on calories, that dinner (and maybe lunch) would would be the best meals to do that.
If you do this, it might be tough to go to bed a little hungry at first, but your body will get used to it. You will become very tired at bedtime and you will sleep deep like you never have before. At least that is the way it worked out for me.
I would say though, that if you lift weights or do other types of strenuous work that require muscle repair. I would eat a little cottage cheese (slow digesting protein) before bed to prevent muscle wasting and aid in the muscle repair that normally occurs at while sleeping.
Just my take.

calories in = calories expended <-- you maintain weight
calories in > calories expended <-- you gain weight
calories in < calories expended <-- you lose weight

very simple concept. Eating at 7pm is no different than eating at 5pm is no different than eating at 8am assuming the meal is the same

QFT. I personally make myself a strawberry protein shake about an hour or 2 before going to bed. But then again, I eat 6 small meals a day and the shake is my last meal.

It's the summation of your calories that makes the largest difference. The timing of your meals has little to do with it.

Edit: Forgot to answer the orginal question. :) I have my shake at about 8:30.
