What would you have said if he told you to STFU and make his pizza? Not that I would ever do such a thing... :D

$20 says that's *exactly* what the kid told him, which is why DrHippie felt the need to post here - to cover his utter and complete pwnage.

lmao, if someone said that, we'd just point to the door. There is no "pwnage" in the pizza shop. Most of the guys who work there have full time careers - banker, teacher, policeman, CAD draftsman, . . . We don't put up with crap.

incidentally, this "kid" I'm speaking of was all of 10 years old... he probably doesn't go out and buy his own clothes, and he's certainly not going to "kick the crap" out of me. :) I was simply giving him some mild harassment that youth occasionally have to bear from adults.

Show me a 'banker' than spend his free time working at a pizza shop for extra money, and I'll show you a sorry-ass banker.

And I don't know if you simply work at this pizza place, or if you have some vested stake in it, but either way, an employee that ridicules and belittles the business's patrons should be fired on the spot or else the place is doomed to fail.

You can't just expect to only serve know-it-all, fight-the-man college hippies as customers, because remember, hippies dont' have any money.

What was most remarkable and amusing about this, rather than pointing out how stupid the whole designer clothing "fad" has been and always will be, is that the expression on the kids face was one of sudden realization that his world had just been turned upside down. :) I wish I had a picture of his face with that expression while he contemplated the whole discussion I had with him.

So instead of paying extra to shill for Gap, you pay extra to shill for bands. Huh... you must be just a superior as you sound.

I buy and wear whatever's comfortable and attractive IMO... some have logos, some don't. Who cares? Only assholes act like they're better than everyone for rejecting branded clothing.

Your an idiot for not seeing the difference between paying extra to support a band that you like and paying extra to support a corporation like gap/old navy/AE/AF etc. BTW you can get shirts that are just as comfortable and stylish minus the large brand name across the chest. You can even get shirts from said companies that do not have their size 300 font logos on them. Imagine that!

Guess what....

Most people don't give a sh!t if the logo is on the front. Especially a 10 year old kid.

Umm.. no. The only visible label I'm sporting is the "Timex" name on my watch - and you'd have to look pretty damn close (or let me b1tch-slap you) to see it. In fact, every single thing I'm wearing today came from Wal-Mart/Sams.

  • No-visible-name tennis shoes - $14.88
    socks - 6 pair for 3.88
jeans - $11.98 (they actually say "Kirkland" on the back, but my shirt is untucked)
    White tagless Hanes T-shirt - 3/$5.97
    Polo-style shirt - $3.00 on clearance

So no, I definitely cannot be accused of buying and spending extra "for the label," but I still think the OP is a useless tool who should be flamed for being a complete and utter douche.

How does that fit in to your little scenario?

Umm you being a cheap bastard does not fit into my scenario. (and I don't even want to start discussing wal-mart) was merely putting a generalization over the flamers who are doing the same to the OP. So he called the kid out. Maybe it caused the kid to think, maybe not. Its really not as big a deal as you guys are making it out to be.

Wow. You are officially the lamest excuse for a human being ever. Quit your job at the pizza place. Quit teaching (you are obviously horrible with youth). Quit breathing.

They are kids, thats enough justification to make fun of them. We all had to go through that painful time of life when each pimple was like a sign to stay away lest others catch your zitness. So get over it and let the older people have fun at their youthfulness. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a nosepicking kid as well.

Would you buy a band's t-shirt for $10 if it was just a plain white t? You like to show off the bands that you like on your chest. Maybe other people like to show off the clothing brand they like. STFU and let people wear what makes them comfortable - physically, or socially.

Honestly, the only clothes I wear these days are work clothes. Yes, they have the logo of where I work on them, but, they are paying me to work there, so I don't mind.

I figure that the money I could be spending on buying fancy clothes can go to more constructive purposes, like computer parts.

I am not saying people should not wear the shirts, I am just pointing out how stupid it is.

I am sure people buy corporate logo shirts to "support" their favorite clothing manufacturing company.

DrPizza, I have no ill will against you, but making fun of a 10 year old for the shirt he wears when he comes into your pizza place? At best it's just a lame joke and at worst you've lost their business because he's going to tell his parents about it.

I really don't see what you were trying to accomplish...

I understand that... I wasn't so much "making fun of him" as in pointing at his t-shirt and laughing at him, as I was just "teasing" him a little bit. I learned many years ago that it's important to engage in conversation with customers who are waiting, rather than just ignoring them while they wait and chatting with the coworkers. While some here may disagree with that philosophy, with a "I just want you to hand me my food" attitude, it generally works quite well. We have a very well established customer base; most of us know quite well a large number of people whom we've only met via the pizza shop. When a female customer, around 50 yrs of age comes in, I'm able to ask "how's Fred doing?" (her boyfriend who has cancer) I've only seen Fred in the pizza shop; he's given me permission to hunt on his land (we share a hatred of porcupines), and when I purchased my new house, I hired his company to do my well service. Now, when I hear that Fred is in remission, I'm genuinely happy for him.

Another kid comes in regularly on Friday nights.. used to order 3 slices of cheese pizza, center cuts (from a party tray.) We joked around with him, teased him a bit, but nothing to make him feel truly upset or embarrassed... it's all a matter of knowing how far you can push. This past weekend, when his whole family ordered (as they do every Friday now), they had relatives with them from out of state.

But, here and there, I've pissed off a few customers. But, for every customer I've pissed off, I've gained dozens of repeat customers who are tired of the non-friendly impersonal styles of other fast food places. It must work, in a city of 12 thousand people, we sell enough pizza on a typical Friday night to feed about 1/10th of them, in a city with dozens of pizza shops. We easily have the highest volume of business. Our ovens are just on the other side of the counter... the guy who was cooking Friday (CAD designer) was getting tips left and right from customers who were amazed at how hard and fast he could work (cooking and serving the pizzas)

For the person above who suggested it was a $5 an hour job :) That's pretty amusing.
Pay is beyond what anyone else makes in a fast food restaurant in the area. (And, believe me, when it's busy, we more than earn it.) Benefits include free food (pizza, drinks, subs, wings, ice cream, etc. ) And by free food, I don't mean "if you work 4 hours, you're entitled to 2 slices of pizza and a drink, if you work 6 hours, you can get a half sub and a drink..." Free = free. Let's not forget all the company sponsored trips to Las Vegas (national pizza expo) I'm advisor of the National Honor Society at my school... free use of the miniature golf course behind the restaurant for a fundraiser. The owner is a great guy to work for... the only times I can recall him ever raising his voice was when his son worked there. His style of management has been quite successful though - with very experienced long time employees, we exceed anyone else's volume of pizza sales with half the staff, errors attributed to rookies are for the most part eliminated, and we know the customer base quite well.

I really don't think there's any ownage in this thread, only those who think I'm owned because they misinterpretted or blew out of proportion the degree that I was teasing the kid.
*sigh* but <donning the flame suit> I suppose those who think they're getting ownage are the ones who wear Aero and A&F shirts nearly exclusively... you wouldn't be caught dead wearing those Old Navy t-shirts, cause those are for the poorer people and you have an image to hold up. It's all about the image, right. After all, you're superior because of the shirts you foolishly spend extra on :p ;)

I kid! I kid!

First, if you want to give him some mild harassment.....fine, but don't post about it on an internet forum while thinking you are a badass or anything.

Secondly, you say don't put up w/ crap in the pizza store. Well tell me, what crap did the kid bring? All he wanted was to buy a pizza while minding his own business, and then you come in and stick your nose where it doesn't belong. Talk about being a hypocrite.

So in conclusion, you're an internet badass hypocrite. Good job! You're really doing great things with your life!!!!

edit: I forgot to ask.....is this whole story shens?
