Ok everyone, no luck on the pricematch. I just got done talking with one of the Supervisors at Staples, and this is what she claims:

They've talked to Target and since Handspring doesn't supply Target with rebate forms, they are taking the rebate off at the purchase. I told her that I'd just buy it from Target then and send in the rebate. She said that when I included the reciept from Target, Handspring would see that it came from Target and not honor the rebate. I'm not sure if this is the case, but if it is, I feel sorry for anyone who bought from Target and expects to get the rebate.

Anyone have any wisdom other than calling and trying to get someone to do the pricematch?

Did you place you're order online or were you calling the order in? I'd suggest placing the order online and then calling for the pricematch.

Handspring didn't supply Target with rebate forms, NO KIDDING! You print it straight from Handsprings website. Please tell me Staples doesn't expect you to believe that nonsense! Some people on other boards placed orders today and said they weren't even questioned when they told the csr's to pricematch Target.

If what Staples said is true, then how do they explain the fact that Target will only have the Visor for $199 until 3-31 when the rebate form clearly states it's good until 4-15? Don't they think that Target's price would stay $199 until the rebate is expired. Nowhere on the rebate form does it state "purchases from Target are excluded".

If I were you, I'd wait until later tonight and then call back for the pricematch. DON'T GIVE UP AND DON'T LISTEN TO THEIR CRAP!

MAJOR UPDATE!!! I just spoke to Dean at Handsprings Rebate Center and told him that Staples is telling people that if they purchase the Visor from Target, Handspring will deny the claim. He said that is not true.. I explained to him that Target sells the Visor for $50 less than Staples so obviously they would like Staples to pricematch Target. He said it doesn't matter where you purchase it, you will still get the rebate. He also said that is very sneaky for Staples to tell people this. I told him I would be posting what he said on the internet and he said "Please do". He said it's not fair to customers for Staples to give out this sort of misinformation.

Well, we need to get Dean from Handspring Rebate Processing to talk to a Supervisor/Manager at Staples.

Until then, we are kinda stuck. :(

(Of course, I am still holding on to my unopened Handspring Deluxe from Target to see what happens...)

Atrac - A friend of mine also jumped on this deal to late (you snooze, you lose!) so here's what he did and it worked!

1) Buy the Handspring Visor Deluxe from Target, do not open the Handspring, keep the receipt.
2) Find the $40 off $200 Staples coupon code.
3) Go to a Staples B&M which has the Handspring Visor Deluxe you want in stock (good luck), bring your Target receipt showing a price of $199 with you ... Sweet talk, act dumb or threaten/yell/scream/bounce off the walls asking them to input the $40 off $200 coupon code into the cash register then ask them to price match against Target's $199. Fortunately you'll have an official Target receipt with you.

Of course your results will vary but it worked for him, the only real down side is you'll lose the 4% from Dash but that's still worth it since you'll be saving $50 due to the price match.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the info. I actually wasn't snoozing on this; I was just trying to determine if I really wanted one of these things. :)

Even at the lowest price, I still feel like I'm using a minature Macintosh Classic or something (cheap screen).

I'll probably just end up returning this and wait until color units drop in price. ;)

Thanks for the posting!

By the way, does anyone know where I can find a driver for hotSync on Solaris? I know Solaris 8 has hotSync for Palm built in. No driver for visor though!

Thanks ahead!

Still no luck for me. This time the CSR put me on hold forever and claimed she called Handspring and talked to Kimberly who told her the rebate would not be honored if bought from Target because it cannot be combined with any other offer. This is starting to make me mad. I feel like just going to Target and buying the stupid thing. I am on hold with Handspring now, trying to talk to someone myself. I WILL get my Visor Deluxe for 109!!

Ok everyone, I hope I can help some of you out. Here is the official word (after many phone calls, long distance too!!). This problem is stemming from the fact that Handspring obviously outsourced it's rebate offer to another company. I talked with Tammy at the rebate company. She told me that there is no way to know for sure, but that since the rebate form says "qualifying purchases" and has you put the name of the store on it; that only certain companies are participating. She said to call Target to find out if they were participating in the rebate offer. That's what I did. After getting transferred a million times within the Target system, I was finally able to get to someone who told me that they were not participating in the rebate offer, and that because of that, they had lowered the price to $199. To me at least, it seems as if Staples is telling the truth for once. Anyway, I'm tired of dealing with this offer. Good luck to everyone else!

I hope you didn't call a Target store to verify this info. If anyone should know it would be Target's Corp office and to be honest that's even hit or miss.

It's obvious that you will get a different answer depending on who you talk to at Staples, Handspring and Target.

There is 1 more option for you. You can try going into a Staples store, ordering it on the kiosk's located there and when you get your printout tell them you want to pricematch Target. Some people have done this with no problem.

Hmmmm...well, I think I'm going to have to return the Handspring. The word that adsouthpaw got seems pretty official (in terms of the Visor I purchased from Target). Quite honestly, it makes sense that Target is not participating in the Rebate Offer. Why would they cut it down to $199.99, $50 lower than everyone else anywhere?
Of course, there is that other little tidbit that Target's sale ends 3/31/01
and the Visor rebate ends 4/15/01.
On a sidenote, does anyone know what Staples in the San Gabriel Valley have these "Kiosks?" I don't see them at Alhambra, Pasadena, or Duarte locations.

just ordered from staples - also a few facts:

called staples and ordered on phone
told the csr to pm it with target's 199.98 price and she did
then added rubber bands and the coupon code and total came to 170.74

now i called handspring csr after placing order - they said "you got a better deal already b/c the target price of 199 was supposed to be AFTER ACCOUNTING FOR THE HANDSPRING REBATE." nonetheless she said (and i hope we all get the rebate) we should still be eligible for the visor mail-in rebate.

please post any updates on the visor mail-in rebate issue for all. good luck everyone and thanks for all the posts!

Which UPC bar code do I send in for the $50.00 rebate? My box has two. One has a picture of the visor and word graphite on it. The other doesn't have a picture, only the word graphite on it.

Thanks!

Yo.. just gotta say I love this forum!
Last week, I ordered an Ice Visor Deluxe from Staples on the web, using the $40 coupon; price rang up to $222 w/ S&H. Then I called them up pricematching the Target in Edgewater, NJ.
Staples: $249.99
- 40.00 coupon
- 74.00 from PM
- 50.00 rebate
+ S&H
-------------------
~ $100.00
sorry.. didn't feel like doing the exact math... :D

OmEv, what's the number of that Target in Edgewater, NJ? Is this deal still possible to pull off?

I was wondering, too, which upc code to send in from the box for the rebate. There's two...like the other poster said. Actually there's 3 if you count that little one on the edge of the box ...i think when you open it up. I hate to send in the wrong one...can anyone clarify this? thanks

which one has the picture on it?
i sent in the one on the side of the box that kind-of pealed off. It was the only real "UPC" on the box.

Well, it is on the front flap and has a small picture of the visor on it, the color, and a bar code. The one on the side has the serial number on it. That might be okay too, but I am not sure.

Dammit I've had this for two weeks and I already lost the stylus. :|

Anyone know where to get a replacement stylus at a half-decent price...not $15 like Staples and CompUSA etc. want for them?

LMAO, are you serious? I always put my stylus back in place right after using it. It's way to small and easy to lose.

Here's a hot deal with a free stylus pen.
