the barnacles' death scenes rate as one of the most visceral moments i've seen thus far. it was pretty disgusting watching them them recoil, swell up, and then turning themselves inside out when they die. and their long, retractable uvula/tentacle...blah!

props to valve for such good animation, nevertheless!

the best way to kill them while you only have your pistol: Take an exploding barrel, toss it at their tonges, as they take it up, shoot it two times, and it'll explode while they are trying to eat it (it'll kill 5 or 6, if not more)

I'm working my way thru the Projekt prison map currently. The best part is carrying a few sentry guns with you .. just hug onto a few and walk forward. Talk about a badass mofo !!! No need to waste ammo when the sentry guns mow down everything in their path. Just remember to dispose of the guns before the end of the level, as your sentry guns will mow down the old man that you need to talk to in order to end the level ... DoH !

RampantAndroid:

Im pretty sure valve made it quiet obvious this was the method they wanted you to use when they conveniently placed explosive barrels beneath the most barnacle-infested ceilings.

WT:

You might find that quiet useful later on.

Moment: You're walking through the apartment near the beginning of the game. One of the combine tells you to move along as they search a room. After you walk through a few civilians homes, the combine storms in and sweeps through and everybody runs for their lives. I think I was yelling along with the NPCs to get the hell out of there!

Dunno for sure, but here are my candidates:

- Setting the antlions loose upon the Combine's ass
- Finally getting to fight alongside Father Grigori
- Finding out for the first time what an overpowered asshat I became with the transformed gravity gun and HEV suit :D

I remember trying to play with 56k and their server not being able to be contacted, and then finally getting through spending 45 minutes downloading patches. I also remember one of the patches corrupting my installation and having to reinstall and repatch all over again.

I doubt I'll ever spend money on a game again that uses Steam in any way. I didn't like the game that much, and Steam made it almost unbearable to play.

Ok, I'm bumping this old thread since I just finished HL2 a little bit ago.

I liked the couple thats in the beginning and later at the end. I thought that was cool and really struck me some how.

Alyx Vance...thats the first video game character I've ever actually thought "Man, nice ass" about and actually meant it. They did such a good job with character facial animations...those models don't look super high poly or anything and yet they're very animated and convincing.

I felt real guilt whenever one of the resistence fighters I was fighting along side died. Sh|t, I even felt that way about the antlions until I realized they never stopped coming. When a strider pierced the body of a woman resistence fighter with its leg, who'd just screamed look out! I felt really sad. They did a good job of making me feel like I was really a part of it. I started to get pissed at those fvckers for being brain dead about grenades though. The combine would toss a grenade right in the thick of my group, a couple would scream "watch out!" then I'd turn around to run and they'd be blocking me. They'd get out of the way just in time for me to get through (thank god the programmers at least gave them a "fvcking move idiot" detection routine) before they'd all get blown apart. Move morons its a grenade.

I would have liked to see some vortagonts fighting the combine...

The ending blew. Sorry...Maybe Alyx got taken by the G-Man too...I dunno but that was crap. I wanted to at least see some aftermath...the citadel collapsing people viewing you as a hero that sacrificed himself for humanity, something other then G-Man blabbing about putting you back in the freeze tube.

The citadel level was actually kind of lame...it was pretty damn easy except for that strider, which was also easy once I figured it out. It looked cool but it was actually kind of plain and uninteresting.

The huge smokestack falling down in one of the water boat levels.

The super gravity gun in the Citadel.

Cutting zomies in half in Ravenholm with those saw blades.

Fighting the Striders.

All the Dog parts were awesome.

I didn't like the 2nd half of the game too much, I found it very blah, just running around and shooting nonstop. I think that's why it took me an extra 4 months to finish the game. The ending was pretty lame too.

Last Level. All the extra geometry and objects moving around really slowed my system. But it was still cool.

I liked the whole game, but I could have done without the Ravenholm level. Seems every FPS game has the obligatory zombie, catacomb, walking dead, ghost town type BS level, and really, it's pretty stupid.
