"My Dad's 50 and still has hair (albeit a little thin, but no balding). What sucks though is my Mom's hair has been thinning out a lot- does anyone know for sure which side it comes from?"

If your thinning hair is caused by genetics you got it from your mom.

Does the gene for balding come from the mother ?

If so my son's got nothing to worry about, which is cool because he has a nice, thick, beautiful headful of hair 🙂

Mani, you'll need to see your GP for a referral to a dermatologist. They'll probably put you on Minoxidil or something.
Did you know that male-pattern baldness is thought to be related to a testosterone-induced effect? 🙂

If things really do get out of hand for ya and you end up with a shiny bald pate on top, there are hair transplant surgeries or even scalp rotation flap surgeries that can be done by a plastic surgeon or an ENT. It'll cost ya a pretty penny to have those done tho.

Mani,

Let me repeat: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. These guys are passing out advice based on TV commercials.

I Shaved My Head For 2 years Because My Hair Started thinning & My Grandfather was bald by the time he was 18... Not I Have to Shave about every 2 weeks, or my hair starts getting too long (about 1 1/2")... So Just Shave it off for a WHile & by the Time you are sure weather you want it back or not

just keep it short.

i still have a full head of hair, just 60% of it is grey.
and im 26.
keep it short.keep it real😉

Yup.

Since most of the testosterone hormone is produced by (near?) the testes, eunuchs lose almost no hair once they get older.

I believe there are some medicines which suppress the production of testosterone in order to prevent baldness.

I take a vitamin called Biotin everyday. I haven't grown new hair, but I stopped losing what I had. Took a couple weeks to kick in, but I don't find hair in my bathroom drain anymore. I recommend it, becuae it doesn't cost much to try and there are no side effects.

Just look at it this way, you're more of a man! 😉

But seriously, it's not that uncommon. I think my hair may be a bit thinner than it used to be and I'm only 19. I'll probably be a baldy sometime in my 40s or even 30s. I carry most of the traits from my mother's side, and all of her brothers are baldies 🙂

I don't care much though...and I keep my hair very short.

I lost my hair at 25. Now that I'm 45 I find that the hair loss was the smallest problem I would ever have. I know this is no comfort but that is the way it is. Cut your hair short or shave your head. A wig is never an option. Only a hair transplant from the sides and back of your hair is, along with scalp reduction. Very expensive though! Of course women like men with hair better don't kid yourself.

The most important thing you can do is research. And don't limit yourself to researching just hair regrowth, but overall health. The only reason I'd go to a doctor is to get your hormone levels checked. Use the baldness as an excuse for getting healthy, and it will be the best thing that can happen to you, even if it doesn't grow your hair back.

Also, if you want a quick way to check for thyroid problems (can cause hair loss), take your temperature right when you wake up in the morning, even before you get out of bed. If it's below normal, definitely get checked by a doctor.

Buzzzzz it all of now and be done with it. Happened to me to. Get used to it or get a rug. Out of the question for me. So I lather up me head and shave it. Cold during the winter though. 😎

Thanks for the suggestions guys. When I first noticed it really freaked the heck out of me but I think I'm sorta easing up a little about it. I still get a pit in my stomach when I think about it though. 🙁

Penile enlargement. Takes the attention off your hair (or lack thereof). Trust me, when the lights are off, it doesn't matter what the tool looks like as long as it performs.

I'd (and I am) just live with it 🙂 No Rogaine, No Propecia, No Hair Club for Men and definantly no 'Rug' 😉

Cut your hair short and be like 'Picard' 😎

Cheers,
Aquaman
