"There's a header on the board, but you have to buy a card. You can find them on ebay for about $16. Don't know how it works on a hackintosh Yup, one of these. Pinout is correct- see page 30 in the ES2L manual. My system shows S/P-DIF Out/In: Connection: Optical But of course I don't have the bracket, nor do I have it hooked up to a digital audio device to test. But others on insanely report that it works. Ordered one! Guess we'll find out in a week or two!"

Kaido, i sent you an email with the same text, but if you don't see it i'll post it here too
I have a
Gigabyte G31M-ES2L motherboard that works great, except one thing. I
have only been able to use stereo sound 2.1 with it. I know it
supports 5.1 according to the manual, by switching the Mic and Line In
to outputs in the Windows-drivers, i suppose this doesnt work in OSX
tho.
I have a 5.1 system.
Then i found this in your thread (page 115):
"There's a header on the board, but you have to buy a card. You can find them on ebay for about $16. Don't know how it works on a hackintosh Yup, one of these. I saw you ordered one of thoose, and i would love to hear if it works
or not, and if it works with 5.1 and not only 2.1. Optical or/and
coax.
I would love you to answer this, it's really bugging me couse i
thought i could get 5.1 to work.
Please answer asap.
Thanks mate, your thread saved me alot of times!

mixed reviews scattered throughout various forums. Some say all fine through software updates, some have usb issues along with sleep. OF course their install methods vary so much and seem extremely complicated compared to kaidos guide.
Thanks for trying mosslack!

The motherboards you guys recommend have newer chipsets, P45, G41, etc. are these OK to use?

How significant is 10.5.8 ? In less than a month and a half, it will be in the dust anyway. Besides the challenge ( which can be 'fun') is it worth the time to polish it? I personally feel the hack developers should take a break and gear up for 10.6. My daughters love the hack and I rarely can get on it!

My 10.5.7 is pretty solid, have no reason, desire or inclination to do 10.5.8. I agree with renderingrocks, wait for 10.6, and wait for all the brilliant hackintoshers to write proper kext and drivers for it, when thats all done, then upgrade.
Hey If it aint broke...

this machine did challenge me. I didn't understand the ahci stuff at first and I already installed XP. So I had to conquer that. Then that v1.6 audio driver for xp on the gigabyte cd didnt work. They posted a new one on their website 4 days after I bought the mb. This thing consumed me and I loved it! I tinkered, messed it up, reinstalled, etc. Well, now It's running great on all fronts and frankly I'm sad! So I may plug in that hd that has 10.5.8 on it and try stuff to get the sound and sleep working. I dont know much outside of kaidos guide so I have been checking out other sites to see how the other side lives in the hackintosh world!

My own, I just want to work with as little dicking around as possible. Still running my HTPC with 10.5.6 because I never turn the thing off to ever update it. It runs 24/7 either sleeping, recording shows, or playing media.
