Firstly I am sorry to hear that some Aholes deleted your huge and (must have been) painstakingly made udp3 guide. there is no lack of Aholes on the planet, so do remember to back up your stuff bro..

It's been a while since i have posted. In fact been a while since I have played with my macintosh "cough". Makes you wonder why we do the things we do. : )

Anyway, just wanted to share (with newbies, "cough" a noob myself here) that recently replaced one cheap case with another cheap case (to make space on my desk) and after that for a while pc won't boot at all, then I removed everything except cpu and finally tracked down the culprit to be the fact that I had plugged in my 2 HD in wrong sata plugs.

For e.g. if HD #1 with Leo1 was suppose to be on sata1, it now was on sata2 and the same scenerio for hd2 with leo2 on it. So I guess the system remembers on which HD did you put what system and on which sata drive it was plugged it, before you pulled it out......at least that's what i think..... ;(

After playing with them for a while I finally got the correct combination, so if any of you guys experience total blackout inside your pc after changing your case, pull and test everything one by one to pinpoint the problem.

by the way the snowleopard's images floating around johnny depp's "bay" are they any good for initial testing purposes? if we acquire the latest version, will they work with the current boot132 cd and uninstaller and on my EP-35-ds3L MB?

============
MACHAC-
GA-EP35-DS3L
C2D EG6XXX CPU.
2GB X 2 GIGS RAM
GT6600 GRAPHIC CARD.

Welcome back mohkahn. Sounds like you've been playing musical HD's. Glad you got it working again. I haven't seen any Snow Leo images on Pirate bay, but then I haven't looked. I'm sure they are out there. I suppose it would not be a bad thing to use for testing, but then you should be sure they are what they say they are. Would not be hard to post a fake image and you know how those people like to mess with people's minds. I'll be waiting for the real thing myself. HTH

Key Kaido, I decided to rebuild the hackintosh using your UD3P guide. I followed all your instructions and I cannot get any sound coming out. Everything else works but sound here's my specs:
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
Q9550
8gb of ram
ATI 4870 1gb (QE/CI Works)
I tried your Uinstaller pkg several times with -f boots and still no go.
Thanks in advance!

I'm just back from a drunken theater pool party. Going to fight with sound and 10.5.7 again next week when i'm back in town. I wasn't getting any audio devices to show up at all. Oh well, 10.5.6 is good enough for now.

Is there any particular sata port to put the main drive on so it boots? I've got 2 more drives in the machine now after following the guide, and it won't boot without the magic disk. When the drives were not in it was booting fine without the disk.

Thanks

Did anybody tried with Supermicro Board X7DAL-E?
I have machine build with this board with 2 CPU (quadcore) and 4GB Ram with Nvidoa 8 series card.

Would my system be more stable if I were to not use the built-in audio? I recall somewhere in this thread hearing the drivers were bad...

AFAIK the only reason NOT to use built-in audio is because it usually gets broken each time there is an OS update. I bought the little USB sound dongle that Kaido touted, but have not really had to use it so far. All of my systems use built-in audio and seem to work just fine. As always YMMV. HTH

Hey this might be a qestion for mosslack and Kaido, but I am thinking about getting a different video card, getting rid of the ati 3870, and get a new big NVIDIA, maybe GTX 285. If am looking at the GTX 285 drives from Netkas, http://netkas.org/?p=105,

You think I will I be able to boot with that card??

I have a mac version of NVIDIA 8800 that I boot with on my first setup, but now that I got the whole process down, I don't want to deal with swapping out cards during a re-install. Any suggestions on a NVIDIA GTX 285 that is bootable? Or you think they are all kinda similar. eVGA, PNY and BFG? I do like ATI, but the on boot-ability was kinda time consuming.

From looking at the Netkas link I would say the card should work. Of course you never really know until you try. Personally I stick with the tested cards as I don't have any real need for anything special. If I ever do upgrade to dual monitors I will probably go with the same card that Zaap uses as he runs dual monitors, that is unless something better comes along. Do let us know how you come out.

I have a need to use a dual monitor set up. Can anyone let me know what video cards they use successfully to achieve this ? Do all the dual output cards just plain work? Thanks.

I also have been curious about something. When you run kaido's app to modify the kext for the video card, it modifies an existing file. right? If you run it again and try different settings for an unproven video card, does it replace that same kext? Can you have two different video cards in a machine?

WARNING about Chameleon RC2

Hi Guys,

I have been running Chameleon RC1 on a USB device with my UD3P board with Kaido's package; and its been very sweet.

The RC2 version came out and I loaded it on a new USB drive and it basically broke my Mac installation. Got a couple non-boots and when I changed all the kexts in the Extra folder to the same kexts in Kaidos package, I was able to boot, but guess what... video was not going to the maximum resolution and I was getting no support for QE/CI. Even with the old RC1 USB, was not giving full video.

I am a fan of leaving the system as vanilla as possible, with the USB audio and separate network.... This release messed my system up... I backed up my data and re-installled the OS and went back to the old RC1 USB drive.

I am not big expert here so I can only pass along my experience.

If anyone has gotten it to work, I would love to hear about it.

Thanks,

Hernando

1. Install Chameleon 2.0 beta to USB stick
2. Delete everything in the /Extras folder on the USB stick
3. Use Mkext Tool to unpack my Extensions.mkext
4. Dump all those kexts on the USB stick in /Extras

One of the beta bugs is, it doesn't load the Extensions.mkext from USB. So you have to unpack it. Since you have USB audio & a separate network adapter, you don't have to install those drivers to the hard drive. The SMBIOS Plist on the USB stick replaces AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext. Takes some tweaking. Too many bugs for me right now.

Any hints on getting two drives setup? I went through the directions on the soup for the ud3 board. Then when I plugged in my secord drive after everything wasll hunky dory, it stopped booting without the magic boot disk; it comes up with:
boot 0 gpt
boot 0 hfs+
boot 0 booting
boot 1 error

when i use the boot disk and choose 80, i see leo on hd(0,2) and it works fine.

I believe I have the boot drive on sata 0, am i missing something? do i have to redo the soupkit after i add a drive?

Sounds like when you added the drive, the default boot device changed in the BIOS. Make sure your original drive is set to the preferred boot device.

I've used:
7300GT- dual monitor DVI+VGA
8600GT- dual DVI (one adapted to VGA)
8600GTS- dual DVI
8800GT- dual DVI
9800GT- dual DVI
9800GTX+- dual DVI
ATI HD2600XT- dual DVI (one adapted to VGA)

Edit: oops, meant 9800GTX+ not GTS. (There is a 9800GTS but I've never used one)

Thank you Kaido.

I tried what you suggested, and now while it boots my new Vanilla installation, the video is not working well. I do not get the full resolution and QE / CE are disabled... I uses the same exact boot.plist file I used in RC1. I will try to find some ansers at the Chamelen site...

Thanks again,

H.

Put the modded Boot Plist on the USB stick, and a vanilla Boot Plist on the HDD.
