Happy to report that the Neutrino project is on again. Thanks to another fix posted for the EEE PC, I have successfully updated the Neutrino to 10.5.7 with the video at 1024x600 again. There is also a modified voodooHDA.kext I am playing with which offers better sound and more features. Hope to have a guide posted soon the on the HQ-A files page.

Dual boot.

But I did exactly what you're thinking of: I installed VMware, installed PowerDVD 9 on it, and tried to see if somehow Blu-Ray would work in a VM inside OSX. Not that I really expected it to work. And sure enough, no dice. VMWare only sees the drive as a CD/DVD-drive. Also PowerDVD reports that video memory is insufficient. From what I gather about emulation, the VM doesn't actually use the graphic hardware acceleration, and I'm pretty sure no HDCP anyway, so no go in any event.

Anyway, I do highly recommend the LG drive- it works fine in OSX as a DVD player/burner, and great in Windows at everything.

Along these same lines, anyone having problems installing Windows on a HD which already has another OS installed, here is an excellent tutorial on how to reset the partition where you want to install Windows back to active status. This is helpful when you get the message, "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation", and you know that the volume you chose IS suitable for the install. This example uses Linux as the other OS, but it works the same if Leopard is the other OS.

Audio problem appeared after update.

Updates to 10.5.7, ran the UD3Pv10 (Full) install. Worked great, except no audio.

In the S/L/E folder I have:
LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext
LegacyHDAController.kext
HDAEnabler.kext
stock AppleHDA.kext

I supposed you already did this, but did you open the sound pref and make sure your output is set to your speakers instead of the headphone jack?

Never hurts to ask. :)

No sound devices appear to select from. I even did a clean system install without luck.

So I can use this kit for a fresh install off a retail 10.5.6 DVD and then update to .7?

And follow the guide starting from here? http://leopardsoup.pbworks.com/ds3l_preparation

Yeah, but the guides are incomplete until I return from vacation next week ;)

Okay, just did a fresh install on my UD3P and got the exact same results. Everything goes fine until I use the Uinstaller to install the package. When it reboots it comes back up in 1440x900. If I switch it to the normal 1680x1050 for this monitor (Acer X223W), the screen turns blue and that's all she wrote. If I then reboot using Boot 132 instead of Chameleon, everything is normal including the screen resolution. What kind of conflict could there be between Chameleon and my video card (Gigabyte 8400 GS)? Reboots using Chameleon gives me the "You Need To Restart" message. Strange... :Q

Edit: I just did a verbose boot and I think this is not related to Chameleon as much as it is to the strings used. I'm gonna try another install using one of the other choices like no audio as I saw a lot of errors related to audio before the kp.

Hmm, maybe the new package is faulty. I'll do some testing when I get home.

Or perhaps it's related to 10.5.7 on the UD3P?

Just did another install, this time using the NO AUDIO package, but got the same results. Video came up in 1440x900 and I'm sure if I change it the screen will turn blue. Not sure what the problem could be but as I said it works fine if booted via boot132 CD or flash drive. I have a medical procedure in a couple of hours, maybe when I get back I'll try one without a kext package at all and see what happens.

Got sound working through some kexts from the InsanelyMac forums located here: http://www.insanelymac.com/for...howtopic=140941&st=240

Can't seem to get my Time Capsule attached printer to work since reinstalling though. Turned off IPv6 and then it could at least see the printer on Bonjour, but it won't let me add it, gives an error 30886 when I try and actually add the printer. Anyone else having this problem?

Okay basically for some reason, the initial install by UInstaller did not work properly.

I reinstalled the HDA kexts with OSX86Tools, and sound worked

I reinstalled the R1000 kext, and Bonjour worked.

Not sure what AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext does in this instance, but I'll reinstall that as well.

If you used Uinstaller via the Hard Drive method, it will screw up permissions. For the initial install, I recommend installing Leopard, then booting it up for initial setup, then applying any updates and rebooting, then applying Uinstaller and rebooting. If you simply install everything to the hard drive without setting up Leopard initially, it will screw up the permisisons.

AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext fixes System Profiler so that it displays your hardware information.

Okay, round three, I have reinstalled the UD3P yet again, this time I didn't install any kext package, but I did select the mkext and the rest of the usual suspects. Same result, so obviously nothing to do with the kext package. I did find out that once I try the 1680x1050 resolution and the screen goes blue, I can reboot via Boot 132 and then reset the screen back to 1440x900 and then it will boot back up via Chameleon again. Here is my listing from the System Profiler on the graphic display:

nVidia GeForce 8400 GS:

Chipset Model: nVidia GeForce 8400 GS
Type: Display
Bus: PCIe
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x06e4
Revision ID: 0x00a1
ROM Revision: nVidia GeForce 8400 GS OpenGL Engine [EFI]
Displays:
Display Connector:
Status: No Display Connected
X223W:
Resolution: 1440 x 900 @ 60 Hz
Depth: 32-Bit Color
Core Image: Hardware Accelerated
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
Rotation: Supported

My thought is there is a conflict of sorts between 10.5.7 and the video string, any other thoughts?

After even more installs with various things removed, etc. I think it must just be my video card and 10.5.7. It does the same thing with any of the other drivers, NVKUSH, NVINJECT, NATIT. Looks like I am doomed to stay at 10.5.6, not that it is a bad thing, but I would like to be current if at all possible. I have an extra 7200 GS and I may swap and see if that helps.

Very odd! All of my cards are working just fine in 10.5.7. I wonder if it's the 8400GS or just your card in particular :(

I just did a fresh DSL3 install and can only get the top two SATA ports to work.

That is fine that they are the only bootable ones but I would like to have a couple of extra hard drives on the other two. The hard drives are recognized in the BIOS but not in OSX.

Any ideas?

Have you tried switching your DS3L install HD to another port to see if it would boot there? Once installed, it should be bootable in any of the SATA ports. Just be sure to make the change in BIOS to set it up correctly. Go to Advanced BIOS Features and under HD boot priority make sure it is at the top of the list. HTH

Along with trying the 7200 GS, I have this one ordered as well to see if it is just my card.

Hopefully between the two options one will work.

Did a fresh install with the UD3P, confirmed that audio does NOT work, I'll look into fixing it this weekend.

Yeah I noticed that too when I was trying with my 8400 GS, thought maybe it was just a flaky install but I guess not.

:(

Tried that, but if the hard drive is not in the first or second slot I get that X (circle with a line through it) at the boot screen and it freezes. Plus what would that have to do with the CD-ROM's not working.

Kaido? =)
