The Zotac model is $149 at Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814500098

Warning: it's HUGE! :D Could hardly fit it in my buddy's case! Also needs two 6-pin PCIe connectors (uses an 8-pin splitter). Here's his Geekbench: (2.5ghz E5200, 2GB RAM, Samsung F1 1TB, Zotac GTS 250 1GB)

http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/136877

I have no need for anything that expensive, only reason I went with the 8400 GS was because NewEgg was out of the 7200 GS when I ordered. I'm a cheap ol' bastard! But now it's a challenge as this card SHOULD work. We shall see when it arrives.

Any ideas?

Have you tried switching your DS3L install HD to another port to see if it would boot there? Once installed, it should be bootable in any of the SATA ports. Just be sure to make the change in BIOS to set it up correctly. Go to Advanced BIOS Features and under HD boot priority make sure it is at the top of the list. HTH

Tried that, but if the hard drive is not in the first or second slot I get that X (circle with a line through it) at the boot screen and it freezes. Plus what would that have to do with the CD-ROM's not working.

Kaido? =)

??? ???

Where did CD-ROM's come into this conversation, I thought we were talking about hard drives? Check your BIOS settings to be sure they are in line with Kaido's recommendations.

Oh sorry, I wasn't recommending the card for you, was just reporting that it worked (and added it to the wiki). Talked my buddy into building a Hack  :D

Yeah I noticed that too when I was trying with my 8400 GS, thought maybe it was just a flaky install but I guess not.

:(

I'm playing with drivers, we'll figure it out! :D

Did you do a fresh install with the latest package? I've got a spare drive and will double-check the install to make sure all 4 ports show up on the DS3L. Are you on 10.5.7?

The install was about two weeks ago. I'm pretty sure it was the same package, I just upgraded it to 10.5.7 without any trouble.

The only iffy thing I noticed is that I tried updating the BIOS from F7 to F8 or whatever the latest one was and got an error. It won't update anymore but it still has the F7 which is pretty recent.

edit: Also, are you still recommending that we get a seperate Ethernet card? What exactaly is the issue?

Peter Haas reports to me that the GMA950 video problem with 10.5.7 may just be related to netbooks and not desktops. He successfully updated his MSI Wind PC to 10.5.7 and used the standard GMA950 string from the Uinstaller to get video working with full resolutions again. So this is good news for those who have Hacks using onboard video.

I'll try a fresh install on one of my DS3L's when I have a chance. So far I've only tested the ES2L (perfect) and the UD3P (missing audio).

The Ethernet card is only if you want instant wake from sleep for Ethernet. The R1000 driver for the onboard Ethernet takes about 20 seconds to "wake up" after you've woken your computer from sleep. It bugs me, so I use an Ethernet card. The R1000 driver from Psystar is perfect aside from that small bug, so you don't *need* a separate PCI Ethernet card anymore.

His GTS 250 barely fit in the mid-ATX case...I had to do some ninja moves to get it inside  It's a beast of a card! But man, 1 gig onboard VRAM...yummy! :D

Yah, my buddy has a dual-core Atom Mini-ITX desktop rig and it works just fine with a custom DSDT (including Hyperthreading on the two Atom cores), and the GMA950 works just peachy :)

That is weird, mine seems to wake right up.

I'm wondering if it affects the boot time? It seems like it has taken a little longer since I activated the driver. Might be my imigination.

Is it normal for it to take two minutes to boot (it's top of the line and new Velcoiraptor. The same PC with windows takes 45 seconds.)

It has problems with Hackintosh, same with the 9400 board from Gigabyte :(

I mean, the computer wakes instantly from sleep, but the network will take a few seconds to wake up (up to 20).

For your boot time, do you have VMware installed? That added some extra boot time for me.

Have to admit, that is a cool board, just wish it was more Hack friendly. Our day will come I'm sure, just need to be patient. ;)

I"ve been running for nearly a week now and no problems to speak of on my g31m-es2l hackintosh. This computer has been serving 4 different user accounts pretty much around the clock. Sweet deal!

Noticed in 10.5.7 on the UD3P, the Jmicron AHCI shows up as "Unknown". Just cosmetic, since it still shows that it's a 3 Gigabit SATA :)

Quick review of Chameleon 2.0 RC1 v431:

1. Boot order is quirky via USB stick, HDD works much better
2. Custom themes are slick - I have a Boot Camp theme on mine
3. No more need for AppleSMBIOSEFI.kext - you just use an smbios plist in the Extras folder!
4. LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext doesn't work from Chameleon 2.0's Extra or Mkext (must go to SLE) * This is the kext that changes the drive color from Orange to Silver
5. It allows your Boot Plist to be stock - it contains a duplicate Boot Plist in the Extras folder with your settings (default boot drive, timeout, EFI strings, etc.)
6. It has issues with Mkext bundles, doesn't like to load them for some reason (RC1 bug?)

With Chameleon 2.0, all that goes in your SLE is the RealtekR1000.kext (for network) and LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext (for silver drive icons), plus whatever audio stuff you're using. Not bad!

In other news, audio is still wonky on 10.5.7 for the UD3P. I've heard that there is a multi-step fix somewhere that solves the problem, so when/if I come across that, I'll update the package! USB audio ftw ;)

Edit: Ahah, 10.5.7 audio notes:

FYI - Windows 7 creates 2 partitions, the bootloader partition ("System Reserved") and then the Windows partition (whatever you name it, or "Untitled"). When using Chameleon as a bootloader, you need to select the "System Reserved" partition in order to boot up Windows 7. If you select the other partition, it will just give you a boot manager failure notice.

Also, you will see both of these partitions on your desktop. You can access NTFS drives natively (read) in OS X, but you cannot write to them (copy files to the NTFS-formatted drive) without a driver. For that, you need MacFUSE and NTFS-3G (both free). The latest NTFS-3G installer for Mac OS X includes MacFUSE, which you can download here:

UD3P 10.5.7 Audio Fix:

Download here:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/...y/ud3p_audio_fix_7.zip

How to install:

1. Remove any older audio kexts (like from your Mkext)
2. Use Kext Helper to install the 4 kexts in the ZIP file

You can get Kext Helper here:

http://cheetha.net/

Setup:

1.) Internal speakers: Rear green minijack
2.) Line Out: Rear black minijack
3.) Headphones: Front minijack (if using the case's HDaudio pins)
4.) Digital Out: Rear coaxial or optical digital audio jacks

Contains:
1. LegacyHDAController.kext
2. LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext
3. AppleHDA.kext (from 10.5.6)
4. HDAEnabler (compiled for 10.5.6)

Background:

The audio system for UD3P (HDAEnabler.kext) is built for the 10.5.6 AppleHDA.kext, so when you install 10.5.7, it breaks the functionality of the 10.5.6 HDAEnabler. Solution? Re-install the 10.5.6 AppleHDA.kext.

I've downloaded the fix, but probably won't try it until my new video cards arrive. No sense in doing another install when I know both video and audio will be restored. They should arrive this week sometime.

BTW, have a nice vacation, you deserve it!
