I hope his foot slips off it, that leg goes down, he loses balance, and the barbell falls upon his head, crushing his skull. I mean seriously, I hope that happens before he reproduces.

The problem is him using 70Kg on a swiss ball!

If he tried to squat on the ball without weights that wouldn't be so bad for a mix up of balance. If he fell he would have no risk of a barbell landing on him!

It looks like it would be easy turning an ankle using a Swiss Ball for Squats.

WHY squat on a SWISS BALL?! Point of the squat is to lift heavy/ reps and you CAN'T do either whilst on a dam ball...

it's a great way to prove you're not a wuss, LOL.

True true true.

I was thinking the angle of his ankle is fine. But yeah squating on a swiss ball is not very safe when the possibility of falling off is further increased with weights!

But squating on a swiss ball isn't so bad minus weights imo. Just need space incase you do fall off you don't slam in to some machines.

I've read about using a Swiis Ball for doing Bench Presses and such where you rest your back on the ball but this seems ridiculous.

Even with those I'd be too worried about it popping. Not that I have seen one pop, but it just would be too much worry if I were using any weight worth lifting.

I have heard it also.

My coach and I think it is not a very good use.

People and the 'fitness' industry like to 'strengthen' 'core strength' but the WHOLE idea of BP on a swiss ball is CRAZY.

No study has shown it will help you improve athletically.

The more you can lift in a BP the stronger your abs and core will be. You can't lift heavy on a swiss ball because it is not steady and the chances of injury are further increased by being on a ball that is no where near stable compared to a flat bench.

If you want to work core there are 10s and 10s of exercises to do so.

People have to sell magazines/ products so they come up with new things to do. The basics have always worked and still work.

Still a bad idea bro. One simple jerk reaction the wrong direction can cause ligament or ACL injuries.

He is building incredible core strength and balance by doing that exercise.

There are tons and I mean tons of exercises that you will not see in 90% of gyms that are just phenomenal for building athletic ability.

Go back to your bicep curls.

No swiss ball will bu ild 'athletic ability'. For athletic ability you need power which is a function of strength and speed. Neither will be worked on the swiss ball whilst squating. Your better off squating normally with weights for heavy reps and mix up with some higher rep stuff later. Do some PC and back and back and other works.

I don't do bicep curls.

Incline sit ups with weights is better for core then doing what he is doing. He can also do dragon flags or bulkoffs.

Koing

He didn't say he was building athletic ability.

Yeah don't worry I don't make it a regular thing!

I only did it as the Gymnastics coach asked me so. The floor their is padded so if I fell it wouldn't be a problem.

I'll stay the hell away from the beam! No way would I have the balls to do any summersaults on the beam...the thought of it just makes me wince and scares the hell out of me...I saw one guy do a back summy on it and it scared the hell out of me. He landed it but still.

Wow, you're the most uninformed noob I think I've ever seen. Is it worth it to build up core strength and risk paralyzation/serious injury in something that isn't even REMOTELY safe? If you are, well please load up 270lbs on a barbell, and squat on a swiss ball and do the world a favor by getting rid of yourself from the human race.

If you want to improve your balance, just get a balance board or take up ballet.

I tore my ACL 12 years ago slipping on a icy sidewalk. Painful as hell. Lots of therapy. Gobs of lost muscle lost due to atrophy.

OK, I see it now.

That looks like a balance exercise, not strength.

Come on, it's only one plate.

Would you do it?

No, but then, nothing I do is dependent on that type of balance.

I do basic weight training for size, that's it. But I know of many different ways to increase specific muscular stamina and/or balance. And many exercises using balls are for balance.

Ouch man :(

I've only had one non small injury and that was Gymnastics related and not WL related. That sucked and cost me 3 months training time :(

Most other things were wrist injuries from Gymnastics.

Funny I've not had any Weight Lifting injuries.
