Realistically, it's not worth his time to sue you for $200. He's just trying to scare you into paying up.

Its a morale thing for the guy I would guess, to teach the OP a lesson in following through. If he goes to court the op will be liable for the $200 and court costs if the op loses, so he will come out with the money and wont cost him a dime in doing so.

If the OP bid on the product and backed out, ignoring him will not make him go away, just more fuel for his fire to follow through. If you bid and won, or BIN and won, doesnt matter, ebay states if you win, or BIN, you are liable for it, and it is a contract between the two parties, which can be help up in a court of law if need be.

OP you fvcked up, just face the facts, suck it up to lesson learned, explain to the parents what happened, what is going on, and either borrow the money from them, find a job, or start selling some possessions to make good on your mistake. This was not the other persons mistake to have to eat it, re-list, and pay for it, its yours, just own up to it like a man.

I agree, 100 percent.

It's your fault. If it hasn't been too long, you do owe him the 200 dollars, and nothing more, but I don't know if you'll learn from it nearly as much as being dragged into a small claims court...

Maybe I'm being a jerk about it, but in the words of "funboy42", suck it up.

No sympathy here, sorry.

OP exemplifies what is wrong with eBay.

Has anyone sent this thread to the seller of the car, yet?

If not... maybe someone should...

I'm 21 and I just bought a 2004 Impala LS Sport for $14,999 (put $3000 down) and didn't ask for my parents to pay for it!

Get a job or come up with a creative way to make money... at 20 you shouldn't be making your parents buy your car. Most would argue at 16 you shouldn't have your parents buy you a car however this is more certainly the case at 20.

BTW, you're liable! Welcome to adulthood!

I "offered" $10k for a showcar in Atlanta thinking my parents would pay... they didn't and now he's sending me rude ebay messages. Am I liable?

You're an idiot. People make a living off ebay and you screw them like this.

A "Best Offer" offer is still a legal obligation. You have tied up his car for at least 8 days until he can dispute the auction and then another 8 days until he can apply for his FVF back.

This costs him money since he can't move his inventory. I hope he does sue you and wins so you can learn a lesson. Secure the financing before you obligate yourself.

Yeah, don't ever take responsibility for your own actions. Screw him as long as you can get away with it.

Hope he takes you to court and you end up paying $500+ for being stupid.

Well... I haven't read this whole thread but heres my $.02
If you placed a bid then you made a legally binding agreement to purchase said car for whatever the bid was. Backing out means you owe the seller for whatever it costs to relist the car. However $200 seems like a bit much. Make him send you an invoice showing exactly how much it cost him to list the car in the first place and pay him that. Either way. You do owe him if you bid and are the backing out because you can't pay.

Jesus you guys much be a bunch of 30-50 year olds making decent money at a full time job... how the hell else do you justify being such assholes? I'm not paying him to relist the item. I was going to offer less than his buy it now but I didn't realize that meant having to buy the car. I haven't used eBay motors before so I guess you can pwn me on that too.

And I'm not going to "whine to mommy and daddy." Keep it coming, pussies.

How the hell am I embarrased? I have like 10 people asking me how old I am and a few other people stalking me and looking up my information on the internet. And no I am not in Corte Madera right now, thank you very much.

Keep trying to "own" me. I'm having a great laugh. I am not entitled to have to pay him anything. eBay isn't liable either and I know more lawyers than the seller of this car knows, all of them very good at what they do, so I wish him luck.

I should get banned for sharing a personal tidbit of my life? Thank you Mr. 400 posts. Thank god this forum isn't run by you or everyone would be banned for posting something in OT by now...
