Sue for $200? Either he's rich and wants to be an @$$ or he's very stupid.

I "offered" $10k for a showcar in Atlanta thinking my parents would pay... they didn't and now he's sending me rude ebay messages. Am I liable?

Uhh

Who bids on any car before asking the people responsible for paying for the car if they will or not?

As well, when you bid/win an ebay auction it's like a binding contract.

<shakes head>

Believe it or not, there are more ppl like OP out there.

One reason, CC business is making them lots of money. If everyone was like me, there wont be much profit in it :p

OP, you haven't answered the people's questions. Did you bid on it or send an e-mail offering $10k to end it early or what? That's the big factor in all of this.

The standard fee for listing a vehicle on ebay is $90, you can however add options that increase that. For instance to feature it on the motors home page is another $100. So it's quite possible if it was a featured listing he did spend $200.

You should pay him the $200 and apologize. I doubt he would actually take you to court as it would cost him quite a bit. But if you don't pay the $200 expect to be banned from eBay at the least. Not a smart move, live and learn

You are the idiot for bidding on something you couldn't buy, pay the man what he spent to list the car and STFU

If you click on the motor home upgrades you see some other possible charges. I don't know what he got, but I do know he had a retard bid on it.

You come here asking if we think you're responsible for your actions, then get pissed at the smart-azz remarks b/c you screwed up?

Dude, if you bid, you owe. Its not like you can accidentally bid, you have to confirm. You're learning a life lesson here, you need not rely on others to pay for you unless theres a written agreement - this includes your parents.

Put yourself in the sellers shoes. You paid $200 to list something, you find a buyer, and he backs out after he wins the auction b/c mommy and daddy decided not to pay for him. Would you sit on you azz and take it? Just be like "oh well... $200 is no big deal..."?

Man up and pay up.

So you did a buy it and are trying to back out.

Pay the $200 and grow up.

If you won the auction and you don't wanna pay for the product, then man up and pay his listing fee, whatever that amount is.

Consider this the cost of one of many life's lessons.

Hm.. Is making an offer considered bidding? I didn't know that.

Realistically, it's not worth his time to sue you for $200. He's just trying to scare you into paying up.

I thought if the item wasn't actually sold they could both mutually agree to not sell and the seller re-lists for free or gets listing fees back?

or is it different for motors, cause that's what I've done before on the normal eBay.

What the hell is wrong with you? You think you can just do WTF you want and cost this guy $200 because you assumed your parents would buy you a car?

did the OP place a bid or not?

a) the OP bidded, won, and is now backing out - this is why i hate eBay because of people like the OP

b) the OP sent him a private email and 'offered' 10k. seller ends listing early/cancels, but OP backs out - OP still sucks but seller can't do anything
