Just proves that stupid people with money will buy just about anything... even if it's not tangible.

[hiding] i used to sell money from everquest on playerauctions.com [/hiding]

i didnt know how much we really made when i was doing that because i didnt handle the finances...i just played (i was only 15). the dude doing the money was like 26...i knew him through a friend in my grade, and he needed help w/ his computers, so i made him 3 to play EQ. he gave me like $100 a week, and i thought i was rich. my parents questioned my source of income and eventually took my car away for a little while, but when the money kept coming, they finally believed me. then, i moved, and it sucked.

i know that people spend lots of money on collectible items that other people might think is worthless (i.e. beanie babies, etc...), but spending thousands of dollars on something that only exists in a fantasy world seems a little weird to me...

just my opinion

If you don't have a life what else do you have to spend your money on?

If you don't have a life then where does the money come from?

And I suppose all the posters here REQUIRE broadband at home for your server right....
People spend money on dumb things period. The fact that they dont spend money on the things YOU spend money on only makes it dumb in you reyes.

I made a couple grand on eBay back when Diablo II just came out. Rather its not a good income though. I figured I made something like $3/hour average when you looked at the fact I was playing like 12 hours a day 7 days per week.

Towards the end I made most of the money through big trades I'd come out anywhere from $20 to $50 ahead. But for the most part it was mundane $3/hour trenchwork but I was addicted to the game anyhow.

There were over $15million in transactions on Ebay in 2002 that involved these types of items. At the hiegh of Asheron's Call Popularity certain accounts went for $3-4k, certain items went for $500-1000. Same can be said for EQ and DAOC. There were an economics professor that did a study on online economies.

Meh, I played UO for 7 years. I saw houses for thousands of dollars, an account go for more than $10,000.... I think things have probably calmed down from what they used to be.

just like all the other stupid people who rent movies, go to the movies, chat on cell phones, with nothing to show for it afterwards except a few memories.

I still play. I've played since beta. I don't play like I use to, but I still have two active accounts

I made about 350 bucks in like 2 weeks of playing shadowbane when it came out. And I like playing these games anyhow.

I'm scouting around right now at new games coming out to see if I can make some cash on release, world of warcraft I'm hoping to rake in some dough on.
