over 80% of guns in Canada are smuggled from the USA, crimes commited in Canada with guns are 75% guns from USA.

Its funny though cause a few weeks ago the US was threatning Canada with trade sanctions and slowdowns at the border about marijuana decrimilization and how it goes against their "war on drugs" and their policies yet almost every gun in Canada is being smuggled in from Americans. It is illegal to carry a gun in Canada yet our government doesnt tell the USA what their policy should be on gun control so what gives the right of the US to tell Canada how their drug policy should be and threatning border delays if they dont listen.

Canada Customs should do what US said it will do if marijuana becomes decrimilzied and that is search every car comin from the states but instead of looking for marijuana they should be looking for handguns, semi autos, and assult rifles. That will sure piss off the americans comin over and cause delays but we have a law and should uphold it as much as possible even if it causes delays for americans.

In the long run, whats more dangerous, a little marijuana found on someone or a criminal with an Full auto assult rifle roaming the streets.
 
Another thing I found was that the police in the states are alot more cautious and scared than those in Canada. I was once pulled over in the states and i went to get my license from the glovebox and the officer went crazy on me, told me to take it slow, have 1 hand on the wheel etc...i thought he was gonna pull his gun on me..i just said im going for my license.

Canada is totally different story, very few people carry guns...in fact ive lived here all my life and have never seen a gun in my life (aside from police officers)Officers are more laid back when you get pulled over, they dont get itchy if you go to fast to get your license etc...because there is a very slim chance you do have a gun compared to the states where anyone can have one.

Canada has roughly between 6 and 8 million firearms in private ownership, and since the vast majority of these firearms are lawfully registered, why on earth would Canadians need to 'smuggle' to such a great extent what is perfectly legal for them to own in Canada?

Judging from what I've seen, marijuana is apparently considered more of a threat to America than a gun.

Canada SHOULD start searching every car until the US backs down and stops trying to bludgeon Canada into modifying its policies to suit the US. We don't rule Canada, they just happen to be our next door neighbors.

That's because the US has a vastly different society, and our LE officers are put in much more danger in some cases than your canadian police. Traffic stops are one of the leading causes of death to LE officers, so they take everything very seriously.

They smuggle guns to Canada and they stay on the black market. Do you know how hard it is to get a handgun in Canada. It costs a lot of money to do the training and you have to do alot of training. A buddy of mine has tried to get a handgun (not hunting license) and still hasnt got it after almost 1 year. Most handguns are illegal anyways, anything with a barrel longer than 4.1 inches are illegal to buy, sell, posses or carry in Canada. Thats why when you see these type of guns in Canada, they are smuggled from the states.

Most of the guns registered are hunting rifles and shotguns and not personal handguns.

im not blaming anyone, im just saying that if US wants to cause border delays about marijuana being decriminlized, we should cause border delays and look for guns.
 
there's three classes of firearms in canada

regular - realtively easy to obtain certification for.
incl: long guns, both manual-loading and self-loading (AKA semi-auto).
semi-autos must have the clip pinned to 5 rnds. [at least centerfire rounds.. im not sure if this is the case with a .22 or shite like that]

Restricted - requires extra permit, and can not be carried (unless you live in certain circumstances where it is neccesarry generally in the bush, where animals can be a threat. you can then apply for carry.)
incl: pistols, revolvers, some long guns (iirc).

Prohibited - these weapons are no longer allowed. I believe if you already possessed them at the time of the new laws, you were grandfathered in though.
incl: pistols/revolvers with barrell length <4", or total length <7". .25cal guns (why?), one other odd caliber.. AK's, M-16's (even semi-auto versions of these), all full auto guns.


I can see the possibility of smuggling for (mostly) Prohibited arms, and possibly some restricted arms. smuggling of regular class firearms makes no sense to me though...

i dont have a link for those percent cause i heard it on CBC news....they did 30 min special on it. Its probably somewhere on the net but im too lazy to find it.

All im asking is to keep your guns out of Canada, and we can continue to live peaceful lives that are not inundated daily with gun murder. Do you know that in Canada when somebody gets murdered with a gun it is usually national news? Because its a rarity cross country. There are probably more people killed daily in LA than in all of Canada yearly. Go figure.

bullshit. Take a look at Austria and Switzerland... a lot of gun ownership, very little crime, and dense population.

it's not the amount of people, it's the mindset of the people that influences crime rates

Agreed. I think Switzerland is the prime example of why the "Lots of guns, dense area" argument fails.

But regardless of gun numbers, it helps when population is spread out.
