i dont have a link for those percent cause i heard it on CBC news....they did 30 min special on it. Its probably somewhere on the net but im too lazy to find it.

All im asking is to keep your guns out of Canada, and we can continue to live peaceful lives that are not inundated daily with gun murder. Do you know that in Canada when somebody gets murdered with a gun it is usually national news? Because its a rarity cross country. There are probably more people killed daily in LA than in all of Canada yearly. Go figure.

Oh, you heard it on TeeVee. Well, it must be real then!

If someone really wants to kill someone else bad enough - guess what? They'll get a gun, smuggled or not. Or fvck the gun, they'll just beat them to death with a hockey stick or something, while we're stereotyping here. And here's a novel concept - maybe the guns are smuggled because people want them. That ever occur to you? And that since you can't buy one legally, they'll bring them from America, the firearm lover's paradise. And of course, the American sellers want to bring them to Canada, since a Saturday Night Special that garners US$100 in Detroit will pull about CDN$500 across the ditch in the GTA.

I'm Canadian. I like firearms. And I hate people like you who want the entire nation to be pussified to the point where we might as well just give away our freedom and property to anyone with a blunt object.

I believe a study that is conducted and showed for 30 min on a reputable station such has CBC. Were not talkin a overly bias station (CNN, FOX list goes on) thats down in the states. Your right...if someone wants to kill someone, they will but dont you think that having access to a handgun is so much easier to do so? Instead of confronting the person you can simply drive by and shoot them. Why do you think Canada has lower homicide rates than US per 100,000 people, plain and simple, less guns.

If you want to carry a gun mercy...you should move. Canada is not being pussified, its being smart. This is why our country is safe. You dont NEED a gun, because we dont all carry one. Learn a lesson. The USA has the highest murder rate IN THE WORLD. Canada has one of the lowest. And thats by ratio, not based on population. The USA is a cesspool of violence, which is why all the people need a gun. Id want a gun too if I lived in the USA. You guys screwed up a long time ago, thanks to some redneck congressmen that feared black people.

Well, cars make it easier to commit crimes. If people had to walk 10 miles to do a "walk-by" shooting, maybe they're re-think things.

Let's ban cars.

But wait! The people who REALLY want to commit a crime won't let a little thing like a 10 mile hike get in their way! So let's outlaw shoes. If they have to walk 10 miles in their bare feet, risking stepping on a nail and getting tetanus, they're REALLY gonna rethink their position.

Less guns? What, there are 10 million firearms in Canuckland, and 30 million people? Assuming one per person, 1/3rd of the population owns a firearm. I must add that after Canada imposed their 1977 gun control law prohibiting handgun possession for protection, the Breaking and Entering crime rate rose by 25%, surpasing the American rate. Canada also has one of the highest violent crime percentages in the world (4th from the top). Must be the lack of guns.

That wasn't the point of the statement but oh well. If you feel so unsafe in your own country that you see the need for deadly force personal protection devices, then the criminals already own you. I would much rather be free to enjoy my life without having to carry a weapon, than cower in fear with a sidearm close by in case I should need it. It makes me wonder whom the ?wusses? are ? those of us who refused to be intimidated by the criminal element (who by nature are cowards), or those who need to have a gun close by in case a coward decides to get brave.

Sure, pal. All you had to do was ask. I'll stop the flow of illegal handguns into Canada FIRST thing tomorrow morning. Say, would you mind stopping the flow of American manufacturing and tech jobs to Canada, India and the Phillipines?

I care a lot. I live right on the canadian border, and I REALLY don't feel like getting hassled everytime I cross the border.

I don't think a single gun-owner is cowering in fear, anywhere in America.

I don't own a gun yet, and feel safe enough in the area I live in to be confident my TKD knowledge will be enough protection, for now. But as soon as I can afford to carry, you better bet your ass I will.

Must be the lack of guns.

actually they estimate 7.4mil guns in Canada, 1.2 mil being handguns while the states has 222mil guns and 77mil handguns. Handguns have been illegal to possess and carry since 1934, not 1977. Maybe you should learn some Canadian history and come back when you know what the hell your talkin about. There is probably 10 murders a day in Canada compared 10 murders a day in LA...i wanna see the info that says Canada has the 4th highest violent crime percentage in the world too

edit: there are more than 30x the amount of firearms in USA compared to Canada but only 8.5x the population.

Oh yeah, because EVERY gun owner owns just one gun.

Go take a statistics course sometime

bigshot I think a fairly large, but common, flaw in your argruement is the assumption that more guns causes more crime and/or violence. That assumption is false. While, for obvious reasons, more guns will probably lead to more crimes commited w/guns the overall crime rate will rise little and some crimres, like home intrusion, wil probably even decline (assuming it is not overly difficult for people to legally own firearms).

England, Australia, and Whales, which all restrict firearm ownership, have some of the highest buglary and robbery rates in the industrialized world. One of the leading the leading factors, if not the leading factor, is that crimminals obviously do not fear those they prey on. And like others have pointed out, if guns create violence and crime how do you explain places that have very high gun density but have an average-to-low crime rate?

Not to get cliched but when you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns. With globalization and the volume of trade that is being done in this day and age that cliche is more true than ever because it's much easier for smugglers to operate now than ever before, IMO. What it sounds like is happening in Canda is that personal, legal gun ownership is becoming harder and harder while crimminal gun ownership is becoming easier. Unfortunetly that's the same story everywhere that restricts firearms. It's not like the US doesn't have a similar problem. There are millions of guns, drugs and people smuggled into this country every day. Around 90% of all firearms used in crimes in the US are obtained illegally. And, IIRC, annually there are more cases in the US of firearms being used to stop/prevent a crime than there are of firearms being used w/criminal intent. But that's a rant for another thread. ;)

Personally, I am more concerned about the person who is willing to commit a crime, and less concered w/how they do it. Maybe if we spent more time finding the cause of a problem, and less time focusing on it's symptoms, we could start making the world a better place.

Wow Gun debate !
Sorry Bigshot I'm Canadian own several guns have access to handguns, legal ones.
To refute the Lies of the Liberal CBC
More, probably the most accurate info

Reality is There are probably 5 million gun owners in Canada, 1 in 6 with about 15 million guns.
Your point is most HANDGUNS in Canada are illegal, which has had a registry since 1935 and since it worked so well they decided to register all guns
rolleye.gif

This is case and point why the gun registry which your article expounds is crap
My buddy's dad organizes a gun show every year and since the deadline for registration Black market guns have gone up 50% thats right a non register gun is worth 50% more than a registered one. Which in turn drives up the value of criminal activety IE smuggling creating even greater profit for criminals.
Funny the article doesn't make mention of that?
Gun control in Canada is a dismal failure which is why it is on the sh1t list of the Auditor General and 6 provinces and all three territories say they won't enforce it when it comes into the provincial court system.
Chew on that. . .

You guys screwed up a long time ago, thanks to some redneck congressmen that feared black people
Invade Canada! Then we can send our "redneck congressmen" there!

Man, you been North too long. It's sinking into your brain.

The United States of America was built on freedoms like the right to bear arms. I'm not a NRA member, but I believe we should be able to have anything short of a tactical nuke. Period. Not open to discussion.

If some a$$hat kills someone with a gun, chances are the person killed didn't have a gun. If we ALL had guns, everybody'd be afraid to shoot anyone!

Less guns? What, there are 10 million firearms in Canuckland, and 30 million people? Assuming one per person, 1/3rd of the population owns a firearm.

Oh yeah, because EVERY gun owner owns just one gun.

Go take a statistics course sometime

The link says nothing about 80% of guns smuggled or that 75% used in a crime are from the US. Try again.

i dont have a link for those percent cause i heard it on CBC news....they did 30 min special on it.

PWNED

Must be the lack of guns.

actually they estimate 7.4mil guns in Canada, 1.2 mil being handguns while the states has 222mil guns and 77mil handguns.

Maybe you should learn about your own country first before you start spouting off crap about how guns make the world more dangerous? "Handgun registration has been required since 1934, with possession of handguns limited to collectors, target shooters and those who can demonstrate a need of guns to protect their lives." Registration was required starting in 1934. Yes, the murder rate is because of population density. Hard to hate someone when they're miles away. In Canada, an average of 3.4 persons live in each square kilometer of land. In the Unites States, an average of 29.8 persons live in each square kilometer of land. That's like taking the population of Kalifornia and spreading it all over Canada.
Here's a gun facts pdf: http://home.attbi.com/~guys/GunFacts32Screen.pdf
It contains some facts for the naive and canadian.

Canada has roughly between 6 and 8 million firearms in private ownership, and since the vast majority of these firearms are lawfully registered, why on earth would Canadians need to 'smuggle' to such a great extent what is perfectly legal for them to own in Canada?

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Because handgun ownership is Canada is difficult to acquire... especially if you have a criminal background check. Normally guns sold on the black market are cheaper than retail in the US... in Canada it's the opposite. Glock can go for about $1k CDN retail, but on the blackmarket, $1500-2k.

Hey now. Not all Canadians are pantywaisted liberal treehugging hippies like bigshot. Some of us love our firearms and high explosives, and endure a lot of crap from our "fellow countrymen" for it.

Take the population density of Canada's most populated city, Toronto, and compare it's 6million population to any other city of the same size, and you're going to see the crimerate is lower.

Actually, what the hell am I talking about?

Let's continue the disarmament of Canada. The sooner their citizens have no arms, the sooner the US can invade and take it over.

O Caaaaaaanadaa......

Ok, and what type of people do you have living there? Any homeless bums on the street ready to rob a bank? That's what I thought.
