Yeah I haven't seen anything either, I was really hoping they'd do a beta event this weekend as a thank you to people pre-ordering or something like that.

Little bird told me they are doing a stress test today for six hours, just started about half an hour ago.

They included an NDA for it though, probably why we are not hearing about it :awe:

GW2 will work a bit like SWTOR, with massive open world areas and instanced zones for personal story. Except the open world questing isn't on rails and is all about exploring and finding events happening that you can join or skip as you wish.

Total Biscuit seems very excited about the open world questing system, saying "it is best and most enjoyable questing system of any MMO I've experience".

Yeah the quest system has me really excited, it reminds me a little of the group events in warhammer online except on a much larger scale. The thing that sounds really interesting to me is that areas will actually change depending on the direction the events take, I want to see how this pans out in the actual game.

I don't know if that's one of your links here, but I watched the one you linked earlier where TB goes over some Charr questing for about 30 minutes. It was quite excellent.

I then watched one of his videos where he and a buddy were playing Terraria together. Laughed my balls off. If you know what I'm talking about...I think his buddy is one of the guys that does the Llama's with hats cartoons? "But Caaaaaaarl!" sounds just like him. :\

Those are more talking about the game, how will it work, how combat works, etc.

The onr you are talking is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8-9VEvAmFg&feature=youtu.be , if anyone is interested.

I haven't been following D3 that much even though I played tons of Diablo and Diablo II.
It appears to me that if one is looking for a fresher experience with different combat system for a RPG, GW2 is probably more appropriate.

But since GW2 doesn't require a monthly fee, isn't a gear treadmill and has a flat experience curve, I don't see no reason to not play both D3 and GW2, other than trivial things like work and female mates (or whatever mate that rocks your boat).

Will D3 require a subscription? It doesn't, right?

I don't think you implied that, I think I just interpreted incorrectly.

    D3 doesn't require a sub fee.

My post was along the lines thatpeople expect MMORPGs to have subscriptions, GW2 is a MMO but it doesn't.

And since MMOs have sub you feel compelled to play tons of it with no leftover time for other games.

So GW2 will be a game to play, stop playing and then pick it up again with no penalty (opposed to most other MMOs, that if you stop you get behind).

I just don't have enough time to sit and play games consistently without having other things come up.

Diablo is easily my favorite game franchise of all time. Started playing the first one in high school and spent many sleepless nights in university playing the second.

I just don't know if I'll want to take what little time I have to game away from it for GW2 :) Already preordered GW2 though, so I'll see how it goes. I mostly just play BF3 MP, SC2 and work through Skyrim slowly right now.

yep. that's why I'm currently torn with ToR. I've been playing the trial that Kidniki1 sent to me, and it should be up this weekend. I mostly like it with very little complaint and I do want to see the Sith assassin story through, at least...but I'm not sure I want to commit to something that I will absolutely not play when GW2 is released.

One might say I will have enough time between now and GW2 general release to play through that story...but that is quite an expensive undertaking. I really don't want to spend that kind of cash and dedication for something that I will toss aside at that time.

I'm mostly registering that trial account--I think it will save my settings and account? no idea and jumping in when it is cheaper.

actually, that probably isn't likely. I probably need to commit some cash for them to give a damn about saving my account. :\

Well I enjoyed Diablo too, but then came WC3, then DOTA, then GW.

I'm staying on MOBAS and GW2 for the time being, although I'll probably pick-up D3 at some point.

But that is the good thing of GW2 - you don't need consistent game play time.

For example an event started, you go there and start do stuff, your 2 old asks for the loo and you go. When you back you still get rewarded for your participation on the event (it has ranks of participation - bronze, silver and gold - based on how much you contributed). By the way, events are basically the equivalent to quests and not some raid or such.

Don't have much time to play and want to go to a certain area that is miles away of the town - bam, instant teleport to an explored way point on the vicinity - no time wasting travelling.

Max gear is easy to obtain and can be obtained by several ways, including karma (that you gain by simply doing events), crafted (and craft is fast since it the crafting speeds up if you have a big stack of stuff) or on dungeons, etc.

Personal story (basically campaign mode) - instanced and solo-able.

Receive rewards instantly upon completion - no going back to the other side of the world to collect the quest reward.

Want PvP - bam instant max level and gear.

Levelling is fast, but you still don't have much time? Well the first hour of play will give you loads of daily achievements well you do your general play to give you extra xp and loot; guilds can provide bonuses to XP and Karma; you can even buy xp boosters on the cash shop (+50% xp on kills for 1 hour).

GW2 is full of these examples of time savers.

your account will be there for anytime you want to play it is my guess. if in 3 months you decide you want to pay for the game and play it, i really can't imagine your information and characters would be gone. it's easier for them to leave it and hope you choose to come back at some point.

That actually does sound really good. I used to play WoW and stopped due to time constraints and general malaise with the state and evolution of the game.

I'm a pvp guy, so GW2 really appealed to me for the strong emphasis on pvp. Even better is not having to grind my ass off to be competitive in pvp.

Biggest problem with time savers is that it makes the game "easier" (which is bad for schmucks like me with lots of time to invest who want an advantage), lol...

I'll just be focusing on PvP. =D

with GW, you could win some serious cash in annual PvP tournaments. the edge you get is in skill and time devoted. I wouldn't worry that some noob is going to show up and suddenly be competitive with you if you are already at the top of the ladder

Believe me: you would never see them.

Seriously, real in-combat weapon switching alone is going to separate the noobs from the pros VERY quickly.

I don't doubt that, which is why the focus will be PvP for me =D

TBH I'm quite excited for GW2 to be gaining so much popular momentum, because I really thought the GW1 PvP was brilliant, and with even more media attention this time around there should be some serious cash behind GW2 PvP.
