Guess where my first patient is coming from tomorrow?

Slew Foot

Lifer
Guys coming in for a new pacemaker, guess where he's coming from.

If you guessed, Death Row, you'd be right. Good going CA, $50K of taxpayer dollars down the drain.

California had 13 executions from 1976-April 17, 2009 (33 years)...chances are that pacemaker you put in today will have to be replaced in about 10 years.

What's worse there are millions with out insurance tho... This guy that did the WORST thing ever gets medical....

Something just isn't right all the way around on this situation. If it were China, it would have been done with and you know china picks up the bullet casing and mails it to the family to make them pay for the bullet! Man that country is awesome in SO many ways.

Don't let the door hit you on your way to the culmination of your ideology.

Why don't you move to that awesome place?

You might be able to save the state some electricity - do they make pacemakers with remote controls? <VBEG>

Letting him die on the operating table sounds good, but Murphy's Law would almost guarantee that new evidence would emerge proving him innocent.

Why should I? If I think China's death penalty works 50 times better then our country... So what...

Stay on topic! If your feel great about paying millions of dollars for health care for our inmates. Yet, millions that are doing the right thing suffer with out... Something is hosed in your thinking obviously. Maybe you should jump on the republican bandwagon and vote no for UHC.

It works faster. I'd definitely argue not as well, but that's because China is overzealous with its killings. I am in general against capital to begin with, but there is an irony in the state paying $50k for this guy's pacemaker when they've already said he should die.

Question: Is the pacemaker itself that pricey or is that the cost of parts plus labor?

Aren't all the assholes that want this guy dead the same assholes that scream 'rationing'.
Probably. These assholes are apparently the only ones that realize that money is finite, that the state of California is bankrupt, and that putting a pacemaker in a guy who is about to get the chair isn't helping anyone.

Pacer itself costs 30K(or at least, thats what they charge), hospital charges 15K for use of the facility/nurses/drugs/etc., ~3K for the cardiologist, 2K for me.

So basically $30K for a battery, a small chip and some electrodes, and $20K for a room and a few man hours of labor. Like I said, the biggest obscenity of this situation is NOT who the patient is.
