Probably. These assholes are apparently the only ones that realize that money is finite, that the state of California is bankrupt, and that putting a pacemaker in a guy who is about to get the chair isn't helping anyone.

I am one of these assholes.

So basically $30K for a battery, a small chip and some electrodes, and $20K for a room and a few man hours of labor. Like I said, the biggest obscenity of this situation is NOT who the patient is.
Yep, no reason an engineer should receive compensation for designing a device which will keep someone alive. No reason an expert should be paid to install it. Why should we give any incentive for people to invent and innovate? After all, the idiots we innovate for don't see any value added and think that the value of the final product is equal to the sum of its components.

This is disgusting. I don't even want to read about victims and how he killed him. Death row is no street fight gone wrong but premeditated usually multiples of people. Add that to a normal law abiding tax paying person just getting by who has no insurance for one reason of another can't even have this done.

$30k for something that cost billions to develop. Pretty damn good deal.

What do you do?

I'm an anesthesiologist. Technically this will probably be the only case of the day, its scheduled for 8 hours. There will probably be a total of 60-80 man hours of work involved for all parties(doctors, nurses, technicians, etc..).

I actually find it odd that a medical professional would post this about his first patient. Like who the fuck else do we toss a noob that is in a position to kill someone? Someone thats going to die anyhow thats who.

Pacer itself costs 30K(or at least, thats what they charge), hospital charges 15K for use of the facility/nurses/drugs/etc., ~3K for the cardiologist, 2K for me.

Anesthesiologist?

EDIT: yep, (didn't read far enough ;) )

I have an idea. You can offer your services to the state. Tell them you'll do it for fifty bucks.

As what, a janitor? That would fit. A mop and bucket doesn't have an R&D cost associated to it.

You know most medical R&d is done by the nih right? "progressives" fucking with medical research and having the government do it. And look at just how horrible our medical research is in this country... government cant do anything right. I heard they are doing research on how to disprove the existence of GOD
