Because she was going to split the profit with them if they helped her get her hands on it. They were going to be a huge help to her for that. It was a crap ton of money so they jumped at the opportunity. They didn't know or really much care what it was (for a while), they just wanted the money.

I really enjoyed it, very good movie with a lot of humor.

Not knowing anything of the comic beforehand, I hope they don't plan for GoG to join the Avengers in the 3rd movie or anything. I just feel like they are going over the top if they do that and it would just be too much for a movie. I think they hit gold with this franchise and should keep it that way with minor connections to the marvel universe(like this movie).

well, Thanos was already introduced in Avengers 1. His seeking the Infinity gems has been tied with that, Thor/Loki, and now GoG. He and the GotG have long been tied with the Avengers, so I think that has been the long game.

...And I was with you for a while. I thought this Cosmic stuff was just bad for a film--it was always so complex and disorienting in the comics, and would take many issues of various franchises to work them out. I always assumed a disaster like Spiderman 3 would happen...then, when it did (way too many villains, several decades of multiple character development mashed into ~2 hours of story), it was the expected disaster.

But, I think, Marvel is playing the long game here. We've already got several film franchises: Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk?, and now GoTG, aiming toward the same overarching end game. They are playing the comic model out on film, and while it won't be the same type of story and will invariably piss off the legions of comic fans to some degree, I think it is coalescing into the best type of franchise that one can hope for this material.

They are connected to Avengers 3. All(most) characters in the movies proceeding Avengers 3 are connected to Avengers 3. How much and in what was is TBD.

The trailers looked cheesy but it was a very entertaining flick. I had to see it in 2D because some in our group get nauseous with 3D but I can see some scenes that would showcase 3D pretty damn well. 8.5/10

I saw it yesterday and loved it. Back in the day when I was a comic book freak I was familiar with GotG, but not enough to know any of the backstory... it was really nice to go in not knowing anything about the characters, unlike some of the other Marvel movies where my inner fanboy constantly wants to scream "That's not canon!!!"

Nothing guts your new franchise like pulling in the popular one in. Putting in Iron Man would kill what they're attempting to do and make it Iron Man in space.

The post credits sequence was actually going to involve Iron Man, but the scrapped the idea when Downey Jr made a statement about not continuing as Iron Man (he has since redacted that and signed on for Iron Man 4). They didn't want him in the post credits if Avengers 2 was his last movie. Eventually, Tony Stark realizes that his intelligence is limited by Earth's collective knowledge and has to seek out the stars. This plays very well into the GotG, had he been able to contact them or something.

Even still, I'm sure they will have some kind of appearance in the battle with Thanos (even if it wasn't in the comics). I just hope the movie doesn't go with the comic format of Thanos basically killing every super hero, defeating all the celestial beings, Galactus, Eternity, Order, Chaos, etc. Then, just having it all revert because of a silly mistake. Although, the ending of the Infinity Gauntlet was amazing. "Well, 3 times of screwing up and not really wanted the ultimate power I have attained is enough for me. Time to be a farmer!"

As for old Purple Puss, the million dollar question is who's going to fight him. It could be Avengers or GotG at this point. I doubt they're going to marge it all for him, as it'd be confusing for people that haven't seen other movies, but I could be wrong. I loved the farmer thing mostly because you knew just because he was attempting to look like he was retired (and no longer a threat to those really big cosmic players) he wasn't anywhere near out of the game.

And all the Thanos comics have great endings. He is just always defeated and gains insight into said defeat with some kind of introspective nihilism. "Obtain ultimate power! What's the point..."

I think the Avengers will fight him though. He will "power down" and kill most of them, only to be saved by Adam Warlock, once Thanos decides to abandon his body. All will be reverted, and the post credits scene will be the new Infinity Gauntlet Warlock talking with Farmer Thanos! But, this will be viewed through a device in the Dark Dimension by Dormammu!

Had some bad words, but overall great 3d movie.
My son (11 years old) enjoyed it very much.

and then he went back to it--at that time, anyway.

Infinity War starts with him interacting with Magus. Then he leaves the farming life to join the fight with Warlock, actually passes up the opportunity to regain omnipotence (screw that noise, he says), then "returns to farming" at the end.

But it hardly matters--these things get rewritten and character arcs reinvented so often that you can never really pinpoint what they are, or will be, up to.
