Movie was amazing. Lived up to expectations.

End credits scene was, I think, just a fun joke. I don't think they're going to do another movie on that character.

WAY more Marvel cosmic in the movie than I expected. GotG will definitely be in Avengers 3.

was a bit of a joke I believe, from everything I've read no plans.

Great movie.

They made Thanos a lot less dorky than I thought he would be on-screen. I was actually quite impressed by his visual presence.

Can anyone explain Ronan's vendetta against the Xandar (?) empire?

Rise of the Guardians” is simply magical. It takes a very different view of the legends that we have all grown up with, bringing back nostalgia for adults and magic for kids. It attempts to truly make you believe in the childhood fables with its hair-raising battles, lovable characters, and spectacular wonders of lands beyond us.

The myths of the holidays come together with the four immortal Guardians—the jolly yet tough Santa Claus, the warrior-like Easter Bunny, the entrancing Tooth Fairy, and the silent but adorable Sandman. It is their job to protect and bring joy to children all around the world. When evil Pitch (the Boogeyman) threatens to overtake the world with fear, teenager legend Jack Frost is appointed as a new Guardian. The Guardians must learn to work together as a team and get children to believe in them before it is too late. Jack embarks on his own personal journey, as well, finding his purpose in being a Guardian. It’s the “Rise of the Avengers” from our childhoods, and in a good way, too.

“Rise of the Guardians” is visually stunning, especially in 3D. The sight of legends at work will make everyone believers once more. There are a lot of laughs and more heart than I expected. The poignant moments are expressive, especially when Jack bonds with the only boy, Jamie, who still believes in the Guardians. This is a movie for the entire family to enjoy without any innuendos, because the mere idea of legends uniting and epic battles in the night sky will make your jaw drop, cracking even the hardest of critics with its playful nostalgia. It also puts a fun twist on the characters, as well, bringing each one to life with a very distinct personality.

The film portrays Jack as a fun-loving, mischievous teenage rascal who first rejects his new title as a Guardian, frustrated by centuries of disbelief in him. For three hundred years, he feels unwanted because no children believe in him—and therefore can’t see him. He declines the responsibility that comes with being a Guardian because he doesn’t understand why he’s chosen. When he asks, “Why me?” Santa tells him, “You have something very special inside, and we can’t do it without you.” Jack discovers that he has the makings of a true hero—selfless, courageous, and, surprisingly, kindness.

The movie has two heartwarming messages. The first is about how everyone has a different role to play and a special “center”. Santa’s center is to bring wonder to the children, and Jack Frost must find his own center. God has also put “centers” into our own heart, things that we are passionate about and love to do. Just like Jack faces questions about his past and purpose, we also must deal with questions like “Who am I? Why am I here?” We can only find our purpose and destiny in God, who is the Creator of all. The Bible says in Colossians 1:16,

“For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.”

Another message is about hope versus fear. Sandman and Pitch (the Boogeyman) are the exact opposites of each other—one brings sweet dreams, while the other overtakes the minds of children with nightmares. Pitch declares, “It’s time for fear to rule the world.” In the end, even though the children acknowledge Pitch’s existence, they declare that they are not afraid of him because they have the Guardians by their side. As Christians, we should not be afraid, because we have God on our side. Psalm 118:6 says,

“The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”

Objectionable Content

There is mild name-calling between the Guardians, such as words like “bloody” and “coward”. Families can also talk about the worldly portrayal of Christian holidays. Christmas is supposed to be when we celebrate the birth of Christ, while Easter is when we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, but the secular view turns it into a mishmash of Santa, Christmas trees, the Easter Bunny and Easter eggs. Also, the Guardians look up to the mythical deity-like “Man on the Moon” for direction and guidance, instead of God. Another warning to parents is that younger children may be frightened by the idea that Pitch spreads fear through dreams and some battle scenes may be too intense for them.

I would recommend this movie to any family looking for a whimsical, slightly quirky, magical movie. The voice-overs are commendable and the movie’s feel-good, keep believin’ tenors will draw the entire family into a world of hope, joy, and child-like innocence. All in all, this movie was a joy to watch. The uplifting morals will find their way to not only your heart, but to your dreams as well.

I'm not sure it's lived up to the hype, but it was damn entertaining. It actually took a while to get going. At first things were bouncing around way too much and not explained that well. Once it got rolling though it was good

I liked this one...

Rocket: "The metaphor will go over his head."
Drax: "Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are too fast. I will catch it."

I have a hard time comparing it with The Winter Soldier. Captain America 2 gets bonus points for truly being fresh in the style of movie as my largest takeaway was, "That didn't feel like a comic book movie." That's not a bad thing either. Guardians of the Galaxy did feel a bit more like a comic book movie, but the fact that it doesn't include any other hero references or even locations lets it stand on its own.

My biggest compliant about the movie is that it felt like there were a few points in the movie where the pacing fell a bit flat. Also, I would've liked to see more of
Drax vs. Ronan.
I thought that Ronan was decent overall. They probably could've done a bit more to make him seem a bit more detestable.

Although, I disagree with some critics about one thing... Bautista as Drax. I think he did a good job where some reviewers say he can't act. While I doubt he's a great actor, I understood the personality that he was trying to portray, and I think he got it right most of the time.

True, Winter Soldier was quite good and it felt like more of a modern, spy type movie on steroids rather than a comic book movie. I also think it's the closest we'll get to a Black Widow movie although I wish there was a standalone one with Hawkeye but I'm not really expecting that.

I saw it on Imax 3D as well. The size of the screen is always disappointing with the liemax theaters but at least the DLP projector seemed perfect which is what I care about more. A good 3D movie makes me forget I'm watching it in 3D and that did happen, so I would say it was worth seeing it in 3D but not like how Gravity was basically required to see it in Imax 3D.

I'm told this is a great movie. But no movies is so great to convince me to watch in theaters with teenagers. And you know there's always someone bringing a baby that won't stop crying :p

I haven't seen a baby in the theatre in years. Actually there is a theatre locally that caters to parents with kids. Only moms and dads with babies, one day a week on a weekday in the afternoon. But even before that existed I almost never saw babies in theatres.

Here's The Next Big Marvel Villain That Gets Teased In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'
Business Insider By Kirsten Acuna

Warning: There are spoilers ahead.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is in theaters this weekend.

The film is a lot of fun and should have a huge opening weekend for Disney and Marvel. It's currently aiming to make north of $70 million, according to BoxOffice.com.

While there are many action and fight sequences in the film, the one moment that had fanboys on the edge of their seats was the slow reveal of a huge villain in the Marvel universe named Thanos, played by Josh Brolin.

It's a very rewarding scene if you've been paying close attention to the many end-credits sequences Marvel places in its movies. Thano's appearance has been two years in the making since the character was first teased in an end-credits sequence of 2012's "The Avengers."

If you're not familiar with the character, Thanos is one of the most important characters you'll want to familiarize yourself with as the Marvel universe continues to expand.

Who is Thanos?

Think of any of the villains you know in a superhero film and multiply that number exponentially. That may start to come close to describing Thanos who is often considered one of the biggest Marvel villains ever created.

Thanos is a Titan born with a deformity which caused him to have an oversized body. He's obsessed with three things: killing, death, and power.

The guy's literally insane (one of his aliases is the Mad Titan). He was responsible for the near destruction of his own home planet and his people.

You thought Loki was bad for wanting to rule Earth and Asgard? Thanos makes the God of Mischief look like a saint.

So w hat kind of powers does he have?

It may be more appropriate to ask what powers Thanos doesn't have. Thanos is intelligent, has some telepathic abilities including the ability to teleport himself. The guy is virtually unstoppable.

He was cursed by death to be immortal. In other words, he can't die.

Oh, and don't let his size fool you, he's extremely fast.

His importance in future Marvel films:

If you've been following along with all of the end-credits, Marvel has slowly been teasing Thano's grand entrance on screen.

In the comics, the Mad Titan is widely known for his appearance in "The Infinity Gauntlet" storyline where his main objective is to collect six power gemstones known as Infinity Stones to make him all powerful.

We've talked about it a bit before here, but Marvel has slowly been revealing some of the different stones on screen. So far, we've seen three. Loki's Chitauri scepter holds one of the stones while another was recently seen in "Thor: The Dark World" as the object villain Malekith wanted to obtain to make the world dark.

Expect to hear more of Thanos' name in the future.

This is a storyline Marvel has been building toward which many believe will finally culminate in "The Avengers 3" possibly merging the "Guardians of the Galaxy" with the "Avengers."

I know we dipped down to 89% at some point Thursday and I hadn't been paying too much attention to the RT score since then. Just checked and saw it was at 92%, 168/14. Now with a projected opening weekend of $95m as well. Well deserved. Still trying to decide if I want to go see it again or not.

Love the movie although it had nothing to do with the comics at all.

Marvel completely rewrote Peter Quill and the Guardians of the Galaxy from the comics.

Know what? Don't care. That comic series was one of the silliest when marvel took it over. I understand why they did it though.

For those wondering what I'm talking about, Marvel wants to bring their Infinity series from the comic books to the big screen. The problem is that what they used in the comics they can't use in the movies. Mainly because the major super hero groups that were used in the comics to start the Infinity series were the Avengers, The Fantastic Four, and the Xmen. Well Marvel studios only has the movie rights to the Avengers only. So instead of the Fantastic Four, Marvel wrote in the Guardians of the Galaxy instead.

What I did find interesting is Nebula in the movies is like a cross between Moondragon and the Nebula in the comics. Strange mixture but oh well.

So I'm curious as tho whom Marvel is going to write into the Infinity saga next. They are doing a fantastic job in my opinion making a decently coherent story line at least for the hereos this time around. Not something they always do right.

Overall good movie that I enjoyed.

This will be an all time record for an August opening weekend. Last record was below $70 million. They must be tickled pink.

Step Up: All In has dropped to 57%, with only 14 reviews. :D

exactly how I felt. Really took a while to get going, and to be honest, I felt that is way too much empire and galaxy-wide storylines that took several decades in the Marvel Universe to establish, brushed over and tossed in within the first Act. Lots of movement early on--from location to location--with titles as to where you are...probably not the best thing for the majority of audience not familiar with this stuff.

Still, I thought they pulled off those intricacies as well as one could, even though it would have probably been best avoided.

Cast was great...but when, in the comics,
was Drax nerfed like this? Dude was the Destroyer, created to kill Thanos. Dude never needed knives. He flew around the cosmos and was a persistent match for the Surfer, also once wielded the power gem...in his lower colon
. Still, I thought he was great in this. Gammora was also done well, though not as much of a badass as she once was.

Not the greatest superhero or Marvel flick ever, but it was damn entertaining once it got rolling.

The big bad guy--the Real big bad guy. Awesome. One of my favorites in Marvel, and he wasn't cheesy or nerfed (like with those stupid X costumes) in a bad way. As well as he could be done for a major film, I think--and hope he starts wrecking shit in this movies.
Not sure how they can do the Infinity Gauntlet and do it justice, though. I mean, this fucker was battling cosmic beings, that were tossing entire planets at him in a futile effort to make him submit. Then, of course, he became Eternity...if only briefly :D

As to the cameo at the end....
I've made no secret of my shameful love for this terrible film...but please, no. Certainly not if he's animated, anyway. The stupid rubber suit is the best part! ....and here I kinda thought it would be Adam Warlock...or somehow, the Surfer, even though I know Marvel studios don't have the rights to him

Man, the end credits was by far my favourite part of the movie. Got so excited, even though I know it will never become anything more than that scene. :(
