Ok, so i have an xbox and a 6800GT video card in my PC. I have read like half of this topic. I really want to play this game...but which one should i get it for.

PC, b'c you have a 6800GT, it's a little faster than my x800 pro, you'll get 16x12 easily and smoothly with max draw distance.

hmm ok. My bro has a 9800pro..will that still do ok?

look at my screenies earlier in the thread. i have a 6800gt

To be perfectly honest with you, the fancy textures and awe inspiring graphics of a game generally wear off in the first hour or two, and to blacklist a game like this that is so open ended and packed with content is sort of myopic. I wasn't overly impressed with the graphics when I bought GTA 3, VC, or SA, but they don't really detract from the fun of the game, IMHO. Then again, I'm one of those people who buys a game to play it and have fun, not to oogle the goodies for an hour or two then shelf it.

I'm running on a modest 9800p and a P4 2.4c@3.2 w/ a gig of ram, 1280x1024 no AA and it's been smooth and defect free so far as I have noticed, however I've only played for about 3 hours so far since I got the game yesterday. Haven't boosted an ambulence yet. The controls are a more legitimate beef, I remapped them twice and am still trying to find a comfortable setup. I didn't overly like the controls for Vice City either, to be fair, but having to use the mouse while in the car now is cumbersome. The Return but not Enter and the multiple space mappings are also bugging me.

Actually I don't feel the need to use the mouse while driving, the camera pops right behind you as you go about 10 feet.

I'd read through the thread, and see how others are doing with 9800 pro's.

6) WHERE THE FVCK DID THE GLOW AROUND THE SUN AND HEADLIGHTS GO?
7) They seem to have added some sh!tty heat-radiating-off-the-ground effect that is sickeningly overdone at times
8) Skinning/clothing issues not fixed
9) Bicyling controls are spread across the damn keyboard in awkward spots
10) Apparently multiplayer has been removed COMPLETLEY? [I havn't gotten this far, but that's what I've heard]
11) Alternate fighting styles learned in gyms DO NOT APPLY!
12) When vehicles explode, textures don't change

How did this get out of QA? This makes most sh!tty console ports look GLORIOUS. And to think I bought two fvcking copies.

These screenshots are 1024x768x32, FL on, no AA, MIP on, Very High quality, brightness up a little from stock, on the 9600Pro.

6800 and X800 owners:
Can you accomplish this ONE simple task to prove that I'm FOS, or that it's a video card issue?
1) Find an ambulance - take a screenshot. This is the car on which the lack of reflections and piss-poor texturing is most evident.
2) Blow up a car (that isn't black to begin with) - take a screenshot.

OMG! The graphics bring back memories from 1998. :Q
I remember running SportsCar GT on a Celeron 500 w/ GF2MX-400 looking better than that.

:Q

<puke>

edit: 1998 actually just called and wanted their game back.

I can post screenshots from HL2 running at 800x600 that would look like crap, too. It wouldn't mean that HL2 has terrible graphics. This game is based on an engine that is years old, what do you all expect?

The more I play through this game, the better I think it is. The graphics are certainly better than VC and GTA3, and the gameplay is just as good, if not better. Gameplay is what put GTA on the map, not it's stellar graphics.

My only complaint thus far is the story line.

I think the story line for GTA:VC is pretty good, except that there is a bit too much side stuff at one point and also nothing ever becomes of the garage.

In Vice City, if you have a control pad, the Helicopter level is like 100x easier. It tried to beat it with my keyboard, and it took me atleast 40-50 tries before I stopped playing. Then my friend let me borrow his sidewinder, and I beat it on the first try!

As for GFX on San Andreas, I could care less. I have a 9800 pro, and whatever GFX the game produces won' t bother me. What I look forward to is the huge world to explore, and the all the mini/side games. Hours and hours of FUN FUN FUN!! :)

And yeah, it looks horrible. The original Half-Life looked better than this, and it was nothing amazing in its day.

it's called doing the missions f*ck tard..

i rem they did for the first GTA 3 PC port. it was notoriously buggy with really bad framerates.

... there's a patch for gta3?

Yes... I believe it was v1.1.

Ok this may explain my troubles with it... I'll go look into it.

the patch does nothing for frame rates, SORRY! Rockstar could give a rats ass if it ran well on the PC. They're only selling this game on the PC for money, they don't give a sh!t if it looks nice or not.

My personal beleif is that they gave up on the publisher due to insufficient gains. DMA owns GTA(MTL)..

A blown up car on my 6800gt. I never said you were FOS and I hope that they fix it with a patch in the near future.

I guess it ain't just me. I get this one too, only it takes out my HDs, too. I have to fully power off, cycle my PSUs power switch, and power back up to get them to spin up again.

I want a patch, now!

Meh, I'll do the same thing I do with every other new game. Wait 6 months to 1 year and buy it used for $15. In fact, I just bought Tony Hawk Underground for that price. It's new to me!

Screw you all :)

The game looks great. Buy a better video card. Also, some of you MAY need to upgrade the firmware on your dvd drives. I have not had one single crash, much less any other problem with the game. Rockstar is known for creating a patch, as soon as the v1.0 no-dvd crack has made it's rounds, a v1.1 gta_sa.exe will be released.
