so looks like I'm not buying GTA4 since I got a dual

I have a dual and it runs fine. I don't even have a great vid card (8800GS) and it runs smoothly enough without the details turned all the way down.

Does anyone know if GTA IV has LAN as an option for multiplayer? I hate this LIVE crap. It probably requires that you pay like the $7 a month too right? Such BS.

Yes, you choose between LIVE and LAN.

Just like with DRM, if computer gamers keep taking this broken game/maybe patch later (but who cares because it's paid for so let's work on the next game in$tead) bullshit these publishers will keep shoveling it on us.

I won't be buying this game

Argh...So i updated video drivers to try and cure the fuzz/light problems i was having in the game and now I can't even start the game. Just gives me the "RESC10" error everytime. The nightmare continues :/ - Even if I ever get back into the game, I doubt the light/bloom problems will be gone anyways. Someone told me the RESC10 error is caused by the 8.11 drivers so I'll have to try something else.

Should I made a backup image or used sandboxie.

What? 😛

Installing the ati beta drivers (8.12) got rid of the RESC10 error. Still got weird lighting/shadows though, read a couple other threads of people who are having the same problem now. Still have no idea how to fix it as I've tried everything, but I'm going to try Rockstar Support.

If you would of made a image to when the game was working you could of restored that image and had GTAIV working again in the matter of minutes.

This game looks kinda bad on the LOW settings(it defaulted for my 512MB Radeon 4850 Crossfire setup)... Also the game does not run smooth. Very poorly coded.

Just an FYI for everyone... You have to own the game in order to even save. You have to also have the internet. They make you login into their LIVE service and then you save through that. It's very stupid.

I was gonna pick this up but mostly I'm worried about my AMD 165 @ 2.7ghz, especially when I read that a quad core is very important for this game. My 4870 should be okay for 1680x1050, but I think my CPU is more of a factor than I would've expected (as evidence by my Crysis performance and such compared to benchmarks).

Is there anyone with a similar rig playing? I might very well get a quad core, 4GB, and such, but by then I could probably find the game for less than $50.

I'm hanging fire on this, it looks like a nightmare 😛

My 4850@790/1028/Q6600/4GB should be fine for 1600x1200 I hope, at least once they've patched the game to the eyeballs in a few months time 😉

I have been putting off upgrading my system for awhile because I can still play the new games I have bought this year at 1600x1200 with mid to high quality settings and 2-4xAA.

This game shames my system though, it limits me to 1024x768 and very low settings and still only averages 30 fps.

For reference to people with similar systems, Im playing with an X2 5600+ @3ghz ,8800gts 320mb, and 2gb ram.

Ordering up 2gb ram Monday, Doubt it will help any, but is has been so long since I have priced parts that I was not aware ram is so dirt cheap now.

What is really hurting you is the 320MB of ram on your video card. The extra ram should help a little though.

Actually, it's most likely the X2 5600+. If you go through those enormous benchmark threads on Steam, Hardforums, and GTAForums, you'll find that the real difference is having a quad core processor.

from all the benchmarks I'm seeing this game is more CPU than anything, I wonder if this patch they're working on will fix that, or if it's just how they coded the Engine. Sucks for people with a top of the line video card and a 9600 can get very similar frame rate to them lol. I have a dual core and don't want to upgrade to a quad just for this game. I hope the patch evens out the GPU issues in the game.

Game is buggy... This game is a TERRIBLE port. There is no way that the xbox 360 has more CPU power than my machine.

Hamachi LAN play does not work. I don't know if the game just looks at the wrong port and searches for games on the wrong one or what, but it does not work so far. Anyone have L!VE and play it online yet? Does it work well? Anyone playing?

I get terrible FPS with things on LOW (and then the next thing on medium) and everything below 30. What kind of game has THIS BAD OF GRAPHICS AND THIS LOW OF FPS?! I'm playing at 1920x1200.

I was about to go buy it then read this post and just about stopped. Then I thought about it, perhaps your 320MB VRAM is part of the limiting factors.

I ended up buying it. I luckily got the last copy at Target, it is nowhere in sight at Walmart or Circuit City and a CC guy told me it comes out next week 😕.I figure I enjoyed Crysis tons at 1024x768 with my old video card, so if I have to play this game at a less than ideal graphics until I upgrade, that is okay as long as the game is great.

So I'd be playing it now if it didn't require SP3! I never bothered to upgrade before. So I'm doing that now.

Also you make it pretty obvious you didn't buy the game, TridenTBoy 😛

Patch will be out in the next few days according to Rockstar. Among the fixes are:
- Fixed crash after the legal notice screen
- Improvements to the video editor
- Fix to bowling while using certain mice
- Fix for ATI 1900 shadows
- Overall savings to memory
- Graphic improvements to particle systems and mirrors
- Multiplayer character settings are preserved
- Support for DirectInput controllers

Cool. I guess when you have a million+ beta testers you figure out the problems pretty quickly

They mention a fix for the "ATI 1900 shadows" which sounds like the issue I'm having with the game. I have an ATI x1950 myself so hopefully that will fix the weird shadows/lighting. I've noticed a few other people who have the same issue and have Nvidia video cards, so it doesn't seem like it's limited to the ATI 1900 series.

Support for DirectInput controllers is also nice.

Mmmm memory leaks, can't play more than an hour at a time before restarting... Sexy... And all they have to say about the patch is that they'll fix bowling.

Wait, bowling is broken? What about everything else? :\

Lies, I pay for all games. 😱
