I'm interested in the game, but not $50 bucks interested. I'm a cheap ass and am hoping somewhere will have it on sale this week for $40 bucks. I'm seeing it for sale but not on sale.

I'd be interested in the game too.......if I was still 17 and pissed off at my parents and teachers and the chicks at school who ignore me.

Dollar for dollar, the GTA series has been one of the best valued games for me.

People have different preferences when it comes to food, movies, and gasp, games, too.

Sounds like someone's a bit self-conscious.

Friend sent me this.
MS still trying to make PC gamers use Live.
I will not be playing online anyway, but sounds like a lot to do to play online.
Initial activation requires internet connection; Online play requires log-in to Games
for Windows - LIVE and Rockstar Games Social Club (13+ to register); requires disc
in drive to play (unlimited installations); software installations required including
Sony DADC SecuROM, Adobe Flash, DirectX, and Microsoft's .NET Framework,
Games for Windows - LIVE, and Internet Explorer.

My neighbor bought it, says it's 15 gigs installed(!) he has a C2D with 4 gigs DDR & a 4xxx Radeon - not sure the model. Said it recommended he run the game in 1024x768 with settings on medium. I don't suspect it would run at all on my box if that's the case lol.

Sounds like a shitty port to me.

if you buy it you wont be playing much from what i've read

rumor has it 1280x1024 on SLI 280 (forgot SLI isn't even supported yet so throw your extra 280 away) or CF4870x2 will get you barely playable FPS.

Somewhere I read that rockstar is working on a patch, but there was recently a word document on Rockstar's site that says GTA4 is meant to run at medium on current high end hardware, and high wont be playable till next gen hardware.

I think its their way of saying "Its a shitty port, suck it bitches"

I just got done installing and configuring my system (updating to SP3, screwing with the stupid "Social Lounge" which actually KEEPS THE GAME FROM WORKING at the moment...ugh...) and I get this :

Weeee! There should be a car here, btw. My system is all up to date for drivers and such and meets all of the system requirements. I can't imagine why this is occurring... :|

I totally disagree with this assessment.

First off, yes, some people are having problems, and they need a patch. Valid complaint here.

But! The game looks good on medium settings, from what I hear better than the consoles (I don't own one personally). For me, it is running just fine (avg 40fps) at 1600x1200 with my stock Q6600, 4GB, and 512MB 8800 GTS.

That said, a little AA would have been nice.

Besides, the GTA series has never been about superior graphics, it has always been about the gameplay.

I was hoping that the series would turn more like Mafia but with faster cars. Didn't turn out that way at all. It's almost like the game went out of its way just so you can chase a guy for 10 or so mins for no reason at all over and over again. You also got rewarded with money which gave you snazzy cloths and weapons you don't need. If you're going to make the game based on monetary rewards, then at least give us something to do with it.

The game runs like absolute crap on my system (not to mention textures not loading), even with the sliders turned almost all the way down. I'm pretty angry...

I've gotten it to run acceptably on my system after defragging and tweaking a few things... But there seems to be one hell of a memory leak. After about an hour it becomes unplayable unless I stand still. Awesome.

Prolly ur vid card to blame. i have both a 9600GT superclocked and a Core 216, the 9600gt gets almost exactly half the FPS as my GTX does in mostly all my games. I have yet to run GTA4 on my PC but by what I saw on my friends PC (QX9850 or something at stock 3ghz, and the rest of his system is exactly like mine except hes got a 8800GT) I think I will be waiting for a while to see if maybe they patch it and fix how it has to run on Medium. maybe i will download the game and if it runs very good at high settings on my PC, I will buy it for sure. but if it indeed runs like crap, I won't buy it.

Older than you, been married 23 years, not really pissed off at my surviving parent or anything else for that matter, and I like the GTA games as well. So much for silly stereotypes.

I like it so far. Before I purchased, I read about the system requirements, and how you're supposed to put things on 'medium' for a high end system, and how to disable the social club thingie, so I knew what I was getting into. It did crash on me twice. Once because the texture settings were on high, and once when I was binding keys to the keyboard. After that it runs pretty good. But after a while it does 'slow down' so there is most likely a memory leak somewhere. A patch will probably fix that in a week or so.

But in terms of game play....GTA is back baby! Oh yeah, I love GTA, and this one is GTA all the way.

One thing though.....how do you steer with the mouse instead of the keyboard? That's my only gripe.

Yeah, I didn't like the camera movement when driving either. It was a little better in previous GTA games, plus there was a "Look Left/Right" control option that doesn't seem to be in GTA4.

I find tapping the "look behind" control key very helpful though, as it will straighten the camera out so you can see what's in front of you. With this, I don't have to use the mouse while driving very much.

So I seem to be having a strange issue that I can't figure out. In the options, when I try to change the resolution, it won't go past 1776x1000. I try to go to 1920x1080 (my native res) but the bar just jumps back two spots. Holding the right arrow just makes it jump back and forth. This is also happening with view distance; I can hold the mouse and drag it up, but as soon as I let go it drops back to 30. :Q
