Hey I call it like I see it. To my eyes large open world games look terrible on a console. If I didn't think this was true I would have just bought the game for my PS4 back when it released hence the delays. Would have just played it on my 55in plasma and enjoyed the better blacks than my monitor can produce. Thus calling it a day.

I don't know what rez the PS4 runs at. But do you really think up scaling looks good? It blurs the image and causes the texture to be even more muddy/blurry.

The PS4 runs 1080p with FXAA and 4x AF. Also some motion blur no doubt. Also as me and future noticed, there does seem to be another AA type shader in there that might have been left over from the ps3 days. It probably handles the kind of yellowish tint the day cycle seems to have.

If you are getting stutters and you have the standard population/density sliders maxed its your CPU. I have no issues with a 5930K @ 3.7GHz and a 780 Ti @ 1215MHz, maxing out the standard settings minus Grass at Very High and AA at 1200p. Everything else is Ultra or Very High. Extended sliders on 60% up, high res shadows off as I'm running out of VRAM. GPU usage is around 95%+ Vsync off. Basically the minimums:

- You need an Haswell i5 @ 3.5GHz or higher. Haswell automatically gives you a few extra FPS. See:

http--www.gamegpu.ru-images-stories-Test_GPU-Action-Grand_Theft_Auto_V_-test-2-GTA5_proz.jpg

- You need at least 8GB RAM. Game has peaked close to 5GB RAM on 16GB here.

- You need at least a 3GB VRAM GPU for 1080p which will give you most of the options turned up.
I'm getting stutters but I can basically guarantee it's a result of none of the above. A 2600K @ 4.4GHz, 16GB RAM, and 4GB VRAM should be more than enough. And it is, on one GPU.

At 5760x1080 on one GPU, it is playable and smooth. With two, stuttering. All 8 threads are typically around 50% utilization, and both GPUs are typically around 50% as well, sometimes one climbing to 70% while the other is at 30% or 40%.

On the 15.4 drivers (fully clean), I just can't do crossfire in this game. I'll be trying the 14.12 drivers today with clean install using DDU.

BTW, regarding RAM:
I watched usage numbers, and at one point it even used nearly a full 8GB of RAM. That was nuts, but I've seen it usually use about 6GB.

Wow I thought it ran it better. Only 4x AF? Terrible! AF hardly takes any performance away. I auto 16x it in every game and never touch it. Everything else on high?

i sometimes get a frame drop when quickly changing directions, whether on foot or in car

i noticed the same thing on 360 though, and most people probably wouldnt notice it at all, as it appears to be a single frame hitch, and could even be mistaken for hitting a bump in a road or something like that, aka nearly imperceptible

other than that, I never get any stutters or crashing

the one issue i do get, is sometimes the game will suddenly drop to 20fps and stay there

at that point, i need to enter settings, and disable vsync. then my fps will jump back up to 60-70

then i reenable half vsync, and I have my 30fps lock again, for the rest of the play session

What am I supposed to do when Ron from TPI calls?

"Hey this is Ron from TPI, some guys are messing with what's ours. Help us out fight them off, you know where to go"

No minimap marker shows up or anything, I actually dont know where to go :embarrased:

Replacing my 768p t.v soon with a 1080p IPS,been running DSR to see what my 970 can do for 1080p and found out just how demanding those Ultra grass textures were. Why are they so demanding?I tank into the 30s even at 768p,let alone 1080p.Very High runs well enough.

Shutting off AA,advanced scaling and lowering grass from Ultra to Very high and these are my benchmark numbers for 1932x1086...

It is not just textures. It is also shadows and self shadowing. I know very high enabled self shadowing, not sure what ultra enables over that.

He is just nagging you to do survival missions.

This game has crashed every time I have played it. Usually after an hour or two but still getting CTD regularly.

You'll finish the campaign by the time 30hrs rolls around unless you pad it out with Yoga or Golf. The single player campaign here is very short and very meh this time. Disjointed and all over the place. You yank a house down a hill and decide to go rob stuff. Then get mixed in with various elements. Voila! Nearly finished it myself. Characters and dialogue are excellent sure (some of the very best you'll likely experience up to now GTA wise), but there is no heft or depth. Niko actually went somewhere. Rockstar focussed too much on online MMO crap and neglected single player. Like 95% of AAA games now.

This will pass most of the time until Witcher III, but otherwise I doubt if I'll ever play it again, maybe story DLC.

Agreed with most of your post. I also felt like the missions have been toned down and not as complex or fun as GTA IV. To me, they just feel too easy and no self reward after completion.

I still can't decide which game is better as a whole . Pro's and cons of both. But 4 definitely had better missions, IMO.

I don't waste time on multiplayer rubbish with random people. If I want to meet people I'll go out and physically meet them. I play games for the story, for the experience. 5yrs and millions of dollars and the best Rockstar came up was a short, wishy-washy story campaign (still in progress but 30hrs in around 50/69 missions) with missions that didn't adequately cover either of the 3 protagonists plot wise or character wise (Franklin eh? Just a CJ knockoff? Trevor conveniently killing all his competition then off to Los Santos and lets forget the desert and Sandy Shores and Ron/Wade - ?), barely cover the world they built (if you include Strangers and Freaks of course excluding the dead missions like towing), and then shove in more online multiplayer crap. And Yoga/Golf/Tennis in place of actual missions - what? And heists - half of them you do for next to nothing for the FIB or GIVE BACK what you stole in the first place.

Meh. Just meh. And the tone varied from a joke to dead serious which I'll forgive because its GTA. Fine. The rest is just poor. As I said, Niko went somewhere. His past came back and you made decisions on who to kill in some missions. And the missions themselves were varied, you have a heist (HA!) but you also had bits for the characters. Three islands and a pile of supporting characters. Now three characters barely fleshed out in V and the centrepiece heists seem to be online rejects tweaked and shoved into a thin single player "plot". Is GTA now CoD? Multiplayer focus and throwaway single player?

Im only about 25% into the game and so far Im agreeing with you. I cant believe they just let the Trevor desert story die on the vine. BTW, thanks for spoiling that for me, I was hoping we would get back there eventually as the game went along. :(

On the other hand I really didnt get into the Niko character in GTA4. I felt like they tried to get too serious in that game and left their original crazy off the wall GTA roots. GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas were fantastic and GTAV felt like it was on the right track on getting back to that. But now it sounds like they left too many loose ends and if they had just branched out those stories and characters it out would have made an epic game.
