How do these times compare to real world times?

Google it and find out cause I like to know too

I can't find anything... the only lap times I found are around 1 minute, so it's obviously not the whole track that's in the games.

About that video though... I think he can do better... he made a few mistakes, I think he was getting tired near the end.

Ah-HA! Here are the Nordschleife track records from the the official Nurburgring website:

Formula 1:
Clay Regazzoni (Ferrari)
7:06.4 (192.8 km/h) in the GP of Germany 1975

Sports car:
Derek Bell / Stefan Bellof (Porsche 956)
6:25.91 (194.33 km/h) in the 1000-km race 1983

Motorcycles:
Marco Lucchinelli (Suzuki 500 ccm)
8:22.2 (163.6 km/h) in the GP of Germany 1980

They ran F1 races at the Nordschleife until 1976, when Niki Lauda crashed there. Obviously the time of a '75 F1 car is not comparable to what a modern car could do.

It'll be tough to do this using a controller (no steering wheel), since you won't have the same level of steering control...

FYI, here is in-car video of Hans Stuck running the 'ring in an M3-GTR - pretty amazing stuff.
God damn, I've seen that video before but now it means more.

What is the deal with that track? Can anybody put their car on it and run (if it meets race regulations)?

It doesn't have to meet ANY regulations - not everyone is as litigious as us Americans! You could show up in your grandmother's Dodge Aspen, pay 15 Euros, and roll out onto the course . . .

So that's why I saw some guys on the course using blinkers indicating they are getting out of the way of a serious race car in that video?

AFAIK it's considered part of the Germany road system. You'd need whatever is required to be able to drive on their roads. It's treated a lot like any normal road in Germany and a lot of the same laws apply, except you have to pay to lap it.

Official site in English

Prices for laps are listed there in Euros. Looks like it's closed to the public for the time being for repairs.

F1 cars don't do the full 20.8km loop anymore. Modern F1 cars lack the suspension travel and ground clearance necessary for it. They only lap the GP track now.

GT4 = game
M3 GTR vid = real

when your life is on the line it's totally different. besides i doubt driving a F1 car is that easy.

Looks like a formula car, but is that speedometer in MPH? 300+ is pretty fast and he's got good brakes at the rate he decelerates.

Did i see 360?!?!
I was wondering the same thing, looked like 360 to me. However, I must say that the only thing that impressed was his knowledge of the 13-mile track. Otherwise, if you watch his throttle/brake meters, he has no throttle control at all. Now, I'm not sure if proper throttle control would net him a faster time, but I'd like to think so 🙂. Also, he takes almost all curves at full throttle, so I'm sure I could do similar in the same car. The only thing that looked hard to do was to spin out of the curves.

That's what I was looking at as well, and I figured, he could prolly pull a 4:30 on the track if he got the speeds right, and was touching the corners of the track while cornering. Basically, he's using his engine to brake, so anyone that asked whether he could do that in real life: he would probably blow the engine of any car that he is given. Also, I did notice that he had some wheelspin in some of the corners, so if he would've got the traction right, then he would have also got a faster time.

wow just think what it would be like to play him online. RIP online 🙁

Your Internet-self would shrink into nothingness and all that would be is a shell of a real-world... thing.
