In fact, it looks like gun ownership among Democrats has increased more than Republicans over the past couple of years. Here in P&N, it has become practically gospel that only redneck conservatives own guns, but that is simply not the case.

It's almost comical that we hear this BS repeated over and over. I have a good job, own my own home, and have a right to defend it AND myself when I am or am not there. This is a core belief of people with brains. Not a left/right issue.

Yep, that is what I was getting at, that it is not a left vs right issue. When discussing gun control here in P&N, I can't help but wonder if the most vocal against guns, those who want an outright ban for instance, simply view it as a way to attack conservatives, or a value common among them. It is the only reason I can think of when the facts of reality paint a completely different picture than what they would like one to believe. You know, the whole "wild, wild west" thing.

As for the bolded, man-traps are illegal in all 50 states I believe. The rules for defending your property are different when you are not present, you can't use landmines or claymores either.

That was specific about a "gun ban" some people think that a 30 day waiting period, a background check that costs $300 per year, gun storage in approved state run gun ranges and other restrictions wouldn't be calledl a "gun ban" .
