And of course, it just HAD to be a Republican too. Sometimes I really hate my party.
At least you have the courage and integrity to say so -- too many here, from any party, can't do the same.

He didn't say that. You're right that there are hypocrites from all political sides, but face it, the majority of those running for office by publicly pimping their self-righteous "family values" are Republicans, and THAT is the heart of this particular hypocrisy.

True.

We do get hypocrites from both sides. ;)

To all you guys who think Sanford is toast, I beg to differ. Governor Sanford is one of the few potential Republican candidates who has experience in foreign affairs.

I'm not really sure why the wingnuts aren't asking about it. Of course, it could be that they don't need to ask because they watch the MSM and already know that (IIRC) there were 3 taxpayer funded trips in S.A. that included Argentina and that Sanford is going to reimburse the state even though he claims the trips were legitimate state business.

Aside from the trips, I've already seen Repubs on TV calling for his resignation (whether or not if the trips were legit).

I hear he's only got 1.5 years left for his term, he might try to stick it out. OTOH, I'm also hearing that not even the Repubs in SC's senate and house like him so he could be forced to resign or face impeachment. My guess is it depends on how the people of SC react (anybody else think polling is already underway?).

Funnier than your post. Gotta love someone who can't laugh at a legitimate joke out of excessive partisanship. If you don't think it's funny, you can say nothing.

You aren't hired here as far as I'm aware as a humor critic, and if the forum is filled with everyone 'reviewing' everyone else's posts that way, it's filled with crap.

If you had something actually of substance to say on his post, that'd be different.

He's reimbursing because during at least some of those trips, he met his mistress. A fact. He also used a state vehicle to leave the state after ditching his security detail and then proceeded to deactivate the tracking device that would have led to the location of his vehicle. This guy's f'ing out of control. I wouldn't want him as my governor one second longer, despite not giving a crap about who he's boinking or not.

yeah, it's looking pretty damn bad.

he also comes across as a stubborn SOB... I wouldn't be surprised if he just shrugged off all pressure to resign and slugged out the remainder of his term.

Well, one was the sort of baseless criticism, which didn't add anything but if more widely practised threatens to fill the forum with crap.

The other was one that wouldn't exist if not for the first problem post, one not aimed at filling the forum with crap but at encouraging that not to happen.

Rather than more than the 4 posts in this exchange now, let's say we've each had our say. If you want the last word and don't say somoething newly outrageous, you can have it.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that there is talk of impeaching him because he left his post and didn't follow the procedure of designating the Lt. Gov as in control during his absense.

Some 'insider' (wife?) leaked his personal emails with the woman to the SC press, they are in the papers down here. If he was popular, he may not be for much longer.

Exacty. Sanford is not an otherwise innocent victim of a smear campaign. He already violated the public trust and the responsibilities of his job, as well as his private obligations to his family.

Whether or not he actually misused public funds is an obvious question for appropriate competent law enforcement agencies and responsible legislators. We don't have to speculate. In this case, the facts will come out.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere today that his wife has known about the affair for like 5 months? my bet would be on an underpaid IT grunt.

Governor Sanford's best argument against resignation is our Lieutenant Governor, Andre Bauer. As much as many in the state dislike Mr. Sanford, Mr. Bauer is a buffoon who has no support for moving into the Governor's Mansion...at least outside his immediate family and the South Carolina Democratic Party. The Democrats would love to have lead-foot Bauer to run against in 2010.

Meh, it's only s.carolina. If the state is left in a shambles, so be it. They weren't punished enough for starting the civil war.

His domestic policies, though, are not going so well, lately things have been headed south, and he's gone too far with free trade, facing sanctions for export violations.

His explanations are weak - "There are no signs of economic mistress - er, distress."

I'm not even going to touch his recent news story conflicting with the legislature on refusing a stimulus package. Well, one, anyway.

Who else offers them wealth for being scum?

The party without principle is the loudest screamer about being the party of principle.

This story makes you wonder how many other governors, house members, or senators use the taxpayer dime to travel to exotic places ($8k for a frickin plane ticket!!!????)?
