First part of the story Gov Sanford tells people he is going hiking alone on the Applilation trail for 4 days and he would be difficult to reach. This guy is in charge of the state and in case there is an emergency he is the only one constitutionally allowed to take certain actions. There are such things as satellite phones, he could have taken one. This can be placed the the catagory of bad judgement.

1st story

Now we find out he actually went to Argentina and told nobody. In the second article his wife said she has not seen him since Thurs (asked Monday). Based on her answer she didn't seem know where he was either. How many of your wives would tolerate you going away for 4-5 days not know where you are and unable to contact?

Methinks more is going to come of this story

Argentina???

That sound you hear is this man's political career dying. Whatevermore comes out, it appears Sanford exercised very poor judgment.

Wow, he's done this before...

In 2003, just after becoming governor, Sanford joined the Air Force Reserve and attended two week?s training in Alabama with his unit, the 315th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron. While in training, Sanford did not transfer power to the state's lieutenant governor, saying he would be in regular contact with his office, and would transfer authority in writing only if he were called to active duty.

LOL!

This...

It can only get worse, since the media won't rest til they have found out and in the meantime, people will make up every negative story available. When a sitting governor disappears for 4 days, lies about his whereabouts, travels to a foreign country without so much as dealing with the details of who is running the state back home and is essnetially incommunicato, whether or not he is cheating on his wife under conditions that violate or don't violate the law is the least of the problems. He'll never recover from this. Sanford is toast.

How long before the pictures of him on the beach in a thong come out?

That and add in the quack sites that will start saying he went to Argentina... don't they have a lot of she-males/kiddy sex/etc... there.

Thats right folks, you heard it here first. Gov Sanford went to Argentina for his underage she-male fetish.

Apprently it's more than just him...

Rep. Nikki Haley from Lexington is currently still missing as well. $20 bucks says she mysteriously went to Argentina as well.

This could get interesting.

Yeah I beleive Buenos Aires is well known for its "Sex Tourism" and is famous for its pretty butt- boys and therefore a desirable destination for older men inclined that way. Sanford is notorious for his anti-gay rhetoric...

"Exotic?" I mean, can he be serious? Stating that he wanted to "do something "exotic" is:

A) Invitation for every late night and comedy central host to bring it on.

B) Exotic = gay sex

C) Can't he bring his wife and kids with him to "recharge?" Most family men find spending time with their beautiful children a wonderful break from reality.

D) Exotic = gay sex.

"I am being a mom today. I have not heard from my husband. I am taking care of my children," she said outside the couple's beach home on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina.

does South Carolina really have such pressing and dynamic things afoot that the governor can't take a weekend away from his blackberry?

ATLANTA (Reuters) - South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford returned to the United States on Wednesday from a secret private trip to Argentina, ending days of speculation over his whereabouts and raising questions about his judgment.

Sanford flew to Atlanta early on Wednesday and told reporters for The State, South Carolina's biggest newspaper, he had decided at the last minute to go to Argentina and drive along its coastline.

"I wanted to do something exotic ... to get out of the bubble I am in," he told the paper, adding he had traveled alone.

UPDATE:

SC Gov. Mark Sanford says he's had an affair

COLUMBIA, S.C. ? Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday he's been having an affair with a woman he visited on a secret trip to Argentina and said he'll resign as head of the Republican Governors Association.

Sanford, a rumored 2012 presidential candidate, refused to say whether he'll leave office.

"I've let down a lot of people, that's the bottom line," Sanford said at a news conference. He said he's known the woman about eight years, but their relationship turned into something more a year ago while he was on an economic development trip to Argentina.

Sanford, a 49-year-old father of four, choked up during remarks to reporters. He said his wife has known about the affair for the last five months.

Sanford revealed Wednesday morning that he'd gone to Argentina for a seven-day trip. For two days after reporters starting asking questions, his office had said he had gone hiking on the Appalachian Trial.

Meanwhile, first lady Jenny Sanford had told The Associated Press she did not know where her husband went for the Father's Day weekend.

God damnit, someone needs to chain these governors to their desks. They will work for the people!

The other article was from the Christian Science Monitor. Not a totally unreliable source but I trust Reuters more though.
