Sounds like there may be domestic problems for Sanford.

does South Carolina really have such pressing and dynamic things afoot that the governor can't take a weekend away from his blackberry?

God damnit, someone needs to chain these governors to their desks. They will work for the people!

I agree with your sentiment, but this does sound like bad judgment on his part.

It's not that he was gone; it was that he was out of touch - his family didn't even know where he was, and the man had left the country! How many people with spouse/kids just disappear for days on end, and tell no one where they're going or how to get in touch with them?

Good thing you rushed to Off Topic to post this so mods can ignore it and lock other legitimate threads!

I can understand going on vacation but not even letting your family know is just kind of weird. He's hiding something.

thats part of the problem. he didnt tell anyone where he was going or even that he was leaving. he also didnt have his blackberry ON to be reached.

so yeah there is more to it then he went on a weekend getaway.

did anything negative actually happen as a direct repercussion of the gov not being reachable for a couple days? don't get me wrong, it doesn't seem like great judgment, but a lot of people in this thread are making a mountain out of a molehill.

ATLANTA (Reuters) - South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford returned to the United States on Wednesday from a secret private trip to Argentina, ending days of speculation over his whereabouts and raising questions about his judgment.

Sanford flew to Atlanta early on Wednesday and told reporters for The State, South Carolina's biggest newspaper, he had decided at the last minute to go to Argentina and drive along its coastline.

"I wanted to do something exotic ... to get out of the bubble I am in," he told the paper, adding he had traveled alone.

Ok, all together now:
Whiskey....

I wonder if he told anyone at all where he was going?
Was he still reachable by his staff on his cellphone?

then he shouldnt have a job where he is the only one that can do something in a emergancy. he don't like being int eh bubble quite and let someone else do the damn job.

did anything bad happen? nope. But if it would have it could have been bad. He is a idiot for leaving with nobody knowing where he went. I supsect he wont be going any higher in politics then he is.

He's a Republican. They care not about how smart or capable or how much judgement their candidates have. As long as they toe the Rush/Fox line anything is excused.

Adding to the mystery is the "missing" Lexington Cnty. Rep. Nikki Haley who mysteriously went AWOL at the same time. I have a couple of friends who work in Sanford's office. They had no idea what the hell is up to.
I bet pictures end up surfacing soon.

That and add in the quack sites that will start saying he went to Argentina... don't they have a lot of she-males/kiddy sex/etc... there.

Thats right folks, you heard it here first. Gov Sanford went to Argentina for his underage she-male fetish.
:p

Yeah I beleive Buenos Aires is well known for its "Sex Tourism" and is famous for its pretty butt- boys and therefore a desirable destination for older men inclined that way. Sanford is notorious for his anti-gay rhetoric...

"Exotic?" I mean, can he be serious? Stating that he wanted to "do something "exotic" is:

A) Invitation for every late night and comedy central host to bring it on.

B) Exotic = gay sex

C) Can't he bring his wife and kids with him to "recharge?" Most family men find spending time with their beautiful children a wonderful break from reality.

D) Exotic = gay sex.

Family values FTW! I smell another Larry Craig. :)

he's the governor of some shitty state south of the mason dixon. I don't really care about him at all, tbh.

Much to-do about nothing. The governor does not do much most of the time. Signs some legislation maybe or works on a budget. If he wants to take a few days off who cares? This just sounds like political posturing. O'Bamma does all kinds of silly stuff, except he is such a media hog that he has 100 cameras following him at all times. The world was not ending or anything.
